Does Eltz castle hosts weddings?
@kiliipower3556 жыл бұрын
"Burg Eltz" is in the same family for more than 800 years and she survived all wars unscathed. Every generation has something to build. Middle Ages, Gohtik, Baroque, to find everything. That's why the castle is so neat. And if she looks familiar? She was over 30 years on the back of the 500 DM bill She is probably the model template for every knight movie

Pretty close to this castle, on the Moselle river, there's a town called Trier. It's Germany's oldest town, and used to be a Roman capital. Yes, you've heard that right. Roman Emperors actually had their main seat there, and in ancient times, it had the nickname "Second Rome". The town itself is ancient, and there's a lot of Roman architecture still present there today. The region is also pretty famous for its white wine, and lots of local wineries offer taste tests. Trier is beautiful, and there's lots to do and lots to see. If you're ever in the region again, you should definitely check it out!

Trier is wonderful. Actually the whole of the Moselle valley is such a great place to visit that we visited twice. Burg Eltz is well worth the entry fee. We stayed in a self catering property in Enkirch called Weigut Stiftshof just outside Traben Trabach. Enkirch is a lovely medieval village. Full of character. The first year we visited we were there for the Traben Trabach wine fest. Great experience, including live music. The second year we experienced our host’s own wine fest, as he had his own vineyard (excellent wines too). He’d also organised live music.

Most german Castles where re-build (or new build) in 18th, 19th century (german romantic time period) Burg Eltz is one of the few castles that is really old (12th century) and only restaurated (with respect to the existing architecture in the 19th century). It was never captured even there was a lot of conflicts in this area. It's owned since 800 years by members of the same family and was on the back side of the 500DM note de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burg_Eltz#/media/File:500_DM_Serie3_Rueckseite.jpg
@Sundara2296 жыл бұрын
most of those arent real or authentic castles, they didnt had any defensive purpose. You can easily tell from the lack of a real gatehouse with murder-holes, no outer ward, no crenelations and machicolations. The tiny towers also hadnt any purpose other than for the looks of it.

@@timgoorman You should visit Burg Nideggen, which is quite near to the Netherlands. It was unfortunately partly destoryed in the 16th century during a fight between the german emporer and the duke of Jülich with these new weapons - canons. But still impressive and the small town of Nideggen has still town gates in pretty good condition and nice old town. The duke of Jülich build after that a new Zitadelle and town fortification in Jülich - the first north of the alpes constructed for canons in mind with bastions. Unfortunately Jülich was very destroyed after WW2 - but the fortifications are still standing strong - which were the aim of the allied air bombings. Also the giant bridge head added to the fortifications by the french under Napoleon is in quite good condition.

Also, in Spring and early summer wasps are really helpful as they kill a lot of pests that want to eat growing veggies. They only become a pest when they are ‘pensioned off’ from their colony at the end of their season.

Did you know that if you swat at wasps they give off a scent that tells their mates that they’re being attacked and so more of them turn up? Love this video, we visited the Moselle valley and Eltz castle a few years back. Stayed in the village of Enkirch, just north of Traben Trabach, which has lots of medieval houses. It’s also a great area for walking, if you are into that. The Meselle valley is a big wine producing area, so lots of the towns and villages have wine festivals over the summer. Wonderful! We liked it so much we visited twice.
