True. You shouldn't put that head gasket repair crap in your cooling system. If you only drive a few hundred miles a year or you're planning on driving your beater until it breaks then scrapping it, then I guess it would be a viable option. Personally I don't like rolling the dice every time I get in the car, so I just fix it the right way 😅

That's one of the reasons why I prefer manuals instead of automatics, because you can save the engine, the clutch or gearbox might say bye-bye but it's still cheaper than a new engine
@Mr.Benedos7 күн бұрын
@@wateuszkelsz oh yeah, haven't even though of that kind of saving the engine. The best and most assured way is still to cover the turbo with a thick cloth tho
@wateuszkelsz7 күн бұрын
@Mr.Benedos in manual you just put it in the highest gear, release clutch then hit the brakes and hold until the engine stalls, which is way faster than getting out of the car, opening the hood and covering turbo with a thick cloth, not to mention finding that thick cloth

Head gasket sealer is not a permanent fix, and comes with its own issues (like clogging parts of the cooling system). Depending on how severe the leak is, it can work well enough as a "right now" temporary fix. Now, if it's not the head gasket, but something like a warped head, or cracked head or block, the engine is probably junk anyway, so might as well keep it going for as long as you can.

Blue smoke was also pretty common for old two-stroke cars like Trabant or Wartburg, since their engines run on a mixture of petrol and oil, which obviously produces the blue smoke. Though, these didn't use regular engine oil, these used so-called M2T oil, which is a type of oil specifically for being mixed with petrol in two-stroke engines.
@albertastorms7 күн бұрын
White exhaust is also normal in below freezing temperatures as there is vapour from gasoline being being burned. It is visible when the air is cold like when you see your breath in cold air. Now if you see it in warm weather then there is a problem.
@electric8668Күн бұрын
Exactly
@ryans4137 күн бұрын
If it’s cold out the white smoke dosnt disappear it’s condensation from the hot exhaust gases and it’ll be present the entire time it’s cold outside. No different then your hot breath on a cold day. If the smoke is white and really thick that’s a blown headgasket that’s burning coolant. If the smoke is blue that’s oil being burned if the smoke is black that’s an engine that’s running rich to much fuel.

Tuners, or people modifying their engines for more power, be higher compression ratios, cam timeing/lift/overlap, better airflow, nitrous, or forced induction by adding a supercharger and or turbo kit. If tuning & testing by themselves, without spending the time & money renting a dyno. They run rich on purpose, to protect the engine from detonation/knock/preignition, because the excess fuel has a cooling effect. When finding the new air fuel balance for what better hardware you changed. It's best to start a little rich, and tune the fuel rate down, to what perfect for your setup then risk being lean on a test run, and destroy the engine. Tuners, and super car computers may also run rich, if high enough octane is needed, but unavailable. Clever computers, or Tuners doing it manually, can add fuel, and delay spark timing, if knock is detected, and then reduce those things to the point there's no knock with that octane of fuel, but also not wasting it, and try to be as powerful and efficient as possible. Diesel engines can safely run lean, add a turbo no problem, even makes them more efficient, it's the opposite for them. More fuel makes them dangerously hot, but stronger, to my understanding.
