Thanks for the memories. Spent some of the best nights of my life at the UFO experiencing The Floyd, Machine, etc. Met so many artists & musicians there doing the same. Sad that few candid recordings like this have survived. This was Syd at his finest, & there has never been another quite like him. He changed music forever. I too was caught in that moment for some time but managed to break free. Unfortunately, he never did.

You can! Make your own music! Make your own light show. Upload it to the cloud. You're famous!

I can't believe this lightshow is all done LIVE!!
@waterpump9997 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely live and totally analogue. See my comments and video examples above. These lightshows can still be created today using original vintage equipment and techniques, with patience and skill.
@briantjepkema77583 жыл бұрын
@@waterpump999 You don't even need vintage equipment. All you need, basically, is 2 sheets of glass, oil, food colouring and a projector - though it is easier to first film it and then project it onto white sheets or a white wall or any wall! I believe the vintage equipment also uses the projector's bulb to keep the liquids changing. I would love to get my hands on such equipment but, as they say, necessity is the mother of invention so I tried to figure it out on my own years ago with some success.

What a wonderful document to have been able to share. It is a primary piece of history. (That line after "No man,...": What a great thing to be able to say about someone.)

@Pohjoiskarjalainen This culture lives today. It's called psytance, and it's really beautiful - maybe you should try and find your way to one of these, preferably in summer. Some things can't be described in words, you know...
@RocknJazzer7 жыл бұрын
you mean pystrance, but no its not the same, thats edm dance music, nothing to do with rock music. they may borrow visual aspects relating to shared drug culture but that is all...sorry not the same in spirit or music as the originals like this
@psychedelicpiper9996 жыл бұрын
+progjazzfan Agreed. If I was into psytrance, I would have left my home long ago. Cool people, cool drugs, but the music and visuals are nowhere near the same. And the music's not even experimental. It's all the same 4/4, more or less. I used to like some of Simon Posford's stuff several years ago, even attended a Shpongle show and talked a bit with the guy, but I feel weird listening to that music now. It was cool for the time, but I can't authentically embody and live that life. We need to bring real experimental psychedelic rock back. Heck, modern psych rock is pretty boring these days, too. Nothing like this.

As far as I can see from the intro this is filmed at UFO and is exactly what was used for the original Floyd light shows.

Have just been recruited as a light man by some friends calling themselves Five Man Floyd(Syd era stuff). They've already ordered two projectors so I'm behind the curve already. Any direction anyone can give me on gettin them bubbles on the run will be greatly appreciated! Five Man Floyd has a FaceBook and Myspace page and will be hitting the stage late Spring in Massachusetts USA. They are all seasoned musicians who love what play. Sample link on FaceBook page. Thanks Steve

The light show and music here is really f-ed up, in a good way. I've never tried the psychedelics. But there's something attractive about this era and all of this. The "people who know" talk like it was worthless; burn-out hippies. But the more they bitch the more I wonder if maybe there was something to this LSD, psychedelic culture, all that, and they try to marginalize it now b/c they're afraid of what we might think if we did tune in. I'd be interested to hear anyone's thoughts on it.
@psychedelicpiper9996 жыл бұрын
I agree, and I'm guessing you've tried psychedelics by now. Look up 1P-LSD. Depending on where you live, you can purchase it online completely legally, including in America. Very very similar molecule to LSD, but completely legal. But yeah, I agree with you. This culture is what attracted me to psychedelics in the first place.

@IM2PersonalProblems There is tons of info on the web. With an overhead, a few glass petri dishes, some oil, water and food color you can do most stuff. There are other things you can get into, chemicals to give you better bubbles and colors, eye droppers to give the in and out effect. But start slow, get your style and technique down. With oil light shows, its ALL about technique.

This is a video of the light show that MarK Boyle used at UFO? I'm confused.
@mobile51315 жыл бұрын
Where did this come from exactly? Is this in fact what was used for the original UFO Floyd shows? There's hardly any color footage of it, if so, this is quite the find.
