If you can just shoot straight through the main story without having to at least set foot in most or all of the major hub areas than that's poor design. Look at Fallout: NV, the first half of the main quest basically made sure you had to get through all the biggest key points of interest on the map so the players wouldn't skip huge portions of the map and miss the opportunity to play side-quests there if they decided to.
@90lancaster7 жыл бұрын
To be fair to them they have made "Some" effort to Patch the mess the game is The eyes are a bit less freakish, some of the glitches have been fixed they have made the inventory larger. and you can skip some of the transition scenes now. The whole "My Face is Tired" bit has been even more extensively patched and fixed as has the Sarah Ryder grimacing in pain bit. I hear they plan to polish the walking animations further too. So some kudos for making some attempt to fix it and some brick bats at EA for letting it be released now at all it should have been released closer to Xmas 2017 at least they could have put some decent content in the multi-player by that point too rather than a single game mode with minimal variations to it.

Not sequel our balls off making the games more and more and more mediocre with each installment. Stop buying garbage sequels, they RARELY end up better than the original. Seriously, force game devs to start getting creative and not just recycling the same games over and over.

They basically removed all the depth in characters, plot, back story, and side quests. The developers of the first game created a galaxy stuffed full of wonder and lore. Andomeda basically said, "Screw that it's difficult" and made a largely empty galaxy with no mass to affect and forgot about 95% of the stuff that came before. People like blue people, people like cat people, people like large turtle dudes... But we aren't going to build on or maintain any of the backstory of those races and their cultures. In fact, we're not even going to bring most of the races, and definitely none of the ones you know little about.

If there was one major complaint I have, it's how some of the side quests require you to travel to multiple planets to get them done. This review made me appreciate Persona 5 that bit more, because the core mechanic in Persona games are the rpg combat, which is based on finding out the strengths and weaknesses of the enemies. But outside of combat you socialise with other characters, some you fight with other you don't. But they all add something to the combat experience, such as follow up action or being able to talk an enemy into handing over more "Yen". The core mechanic is heavily supported by character interactions, something that I feel this edition to the Mass Effect franchise has lost.

I think the matter of fact is that the basic game shouldn't of had so many issues on day one. I can understand the level of complexity in todays game far out pace those of the 8-bit era. If Nintendo can have such a high level of QA why can't many of these other developers do it too? I feel the biggest issue is separating the devs from the publishers. Whose really to blame for such shit? The capitalistic greedy whore mongers constantly setting earlier launch dates, enforced suggestions that ruin immersion and unoriginal. Not to mention they're lack of perspective of not only the market, or consumers but the actual product itself. All they is, is that it makes alot money. CHARACTERS ARE FAR WORSE THAN PREVIOUS GAMES? How? Where? In what way? ME1 had 6 characters and 4 of them were insufferably boring (Including Garrus, he got good in 2) I can only think of ONE boring character in Andromeda, and that's Cora, Peebe, Vetra, Drack, Liam, Jaal (especially Jaal) are all cool.
@BoogerLeader7 жыл бұрын
@EdgeOI ME2, in my opinion, had the best character roster. To me, Cora was boring as hell, Vetra was non existant, Liam was annoying, Jaal was alright, Peebee was funny and Drack was pretty awesome. ME2 had really interesting characters and a bit of everything, so I'd say Andromeda has second when comparing it to the original trilogy.

I had to try it out to see all the complaints for myself and I am confused on who I should listen to. Apart from the small bugs left and right the game wasn't really that bad. The game play was a step up, the controls were cleaned up from the previous ME games. On the other hand, I do agree as per the pre update 1.05, the faces were glunky and the stances were bugged abit. One of the devs messed up and the faces are kinda meh. I know it isn't the best but it really doesn't deserve all the hate.

I think you got your facts at the beginning a little wrong, the ships were sent right after the battle of the citadel in ME1 but before Shepard was revived in ME2. Or in any case, they weren't around when ME3 ended, they already fucked off by that point.

I kind of think Witcher 3 just makes EVERY RPG after it with moral decisions to look like absolute horse shit. Witcher 3 had moral decisions but most of them weren't black and white which is what makes that franchise so refreshing.
@MrItsaplane7 жыл бұрын
Yeah but it ended the same way everything in RDR did, you got shit on no matter what you did, and I hated that about The Witcher 3. almost everything you did ended up getting shit on. Witchers options and conversation aren't extremely nuanced either, a bit better than Andromeda to be sure but not a bastion of dialogue.

What are you talking about? There's dozens of endings, some are happy, some are ok and some everything goes wrong
@VocabDoctor007 жыл бұрын
+EdgeOI See, those are the precise reasons why I can't enough of Witcher 3, it's the realization of that world, down to those impossible choices, and the way all of the game's systems work in tandem to create that feeling of impossible odds. I would argue the conversations strike a good balance between being directed and being in control, which is fine with me because it mirrors real life in a way, and you're never for a second taken out of Geralt's boots. I feel ya though, I'd like a much wider range of dialogue options in Cyberpunk, which I think we'll get.

I believe Witcher3 has probably spoiled everyone for a generation to come by raising the bar so high it continually bangs you on the head whenever you walk into a new sandbox/rpg.

Yeah, but they were overwhelming just different shades of black. Kill a man who murdered an entire village or spare him because the villagers betrayed and tried to murder him? Save a man from dying at the hands of drowners or let him die because he'll go on to murder a bunch of refugees? I try to be altruistic, both in life and gaming, but the Witcher games make that so difficult it's almost not worth pursuing.

The mass effect experience in my opinion is trawling through the boring fetch quests and coming across a piece of ridiculous or hilarious writing and some genuinely exciting missions.. basically it has all of the bad shit from the first three and some of the good things and occasionally an absolute gem shines through.. like Liam's side mission

I liked the combat. I specced for a biotic charge style which meant my combat loop was rocketing into the enemy, exploding, shooting them in the face with a shotgun, exploding again then zipping away. Some stuff that you randomly hear on the Nexus, this specific one being heard multiple times; "A member of the initiative was found floating dead in space, the identity of the individual is to be withheld until their next of kind back in the milky way has been informed." - what next of kin? They're great great great grand nephew? how long does it take to transmit a message back to a galaxy 600 years away? I was probably being hyperbolic, but I personally felt it squandered the opportunity to do some cool narrative with the time difference (albeit i'm still only 30% through the game so far).
@bloodraven4327 жыл бұрын
He's got a point. I mean, in ME2 you had the loyalty missions that you had to do if you wanted to improve the survival rate of your teammates or at least give them new duds. In Andromeda all it does is unlocks the last set of abilities for them. No one truly important dies, the bad guys are just a reskinned version of the Collectors, and you're going to have to pay for the DLC to truly finish the game like in Asura's Wrath.
@Spartan3227 жыл бұрын
The fanboys - "Its a good game, fuck you for being a hater" Me - "Wait, so you expect your games to buggier then Sonic 06 on release date? Where the fuck have I been that indies can have high standards of alpha builds then a release game on hardware built for the fucking thing?" Also, he's right, MEA has no core gameplay, connecting a bunch of smaller bits of game mechanic does not a good game make, especially not a AAA games of a budget of over 40mil.

Andromeda wasn't the WORST game I've played. Sure, there wasn't any real plot beyond “find security bunkers under planets and hit the on switch”, but I wasn't really in it for the plot. I just wanted to play the game as a fresh new experience into the Mass Effect universe. And I'll be honest, as an exploration game, it works. I liked the dialogue wheel this time around, because it's less about maximizing your nice guy points, vs. your maverick points, and more about building relations with the people you meet. In my first playthrough, I roleplayed as a male Ryder who had a chance to poke and prod everything to find out what it does, and tried to keep it together by masking their worries and doubts with humour and trying to be honest with everyone. The second time, it was as a female Ryder who was a bookworm, who enjoyed studying the Prothean relics she saw the scientists unearth back in the Milky Way. Both experiences were different for me, because I was dealing with what felt like a different character each time. Meeting the angara was also a high point for me, because we've heard so many stories about first contact in Mass Effect, but never really seen any of it, save for a few historic snippets. With the angara, I was genuinely curious about their culture, history, and the like, because I saw this fantastic new species in a way that hadn't been done in Mass Effect before: they weren't integrated into our known society, and we weren't expected to know the species because we weren't next-door-neighbours with them. For me, seeing a turian in ME1 for the first time wasn't as exciting because we'd already seen them in-universe, so the appeal of learning about them was kind of lost. When it came to the angara, I wanted to learn everything about them I will admit the game had it's flaws. Every game does. But I didn't see it as a reason to get on the hate bandwagon. I'm still irked about that one programmer who received a lot of rape threats because the faces barely emoted. Isn't that a little extreme? And don't try to justify it by saying that she wasn't qualified, or some other bullshit. I know from experience that animation is difficult and time consuming. It's not just about making models, and rendering them. There are other things to consider as well, like textures, scaling, file size. Do I think it's the best game in the series? No. But I still thought it was an enjoyable game.

Fun fact; I have never played a Mass Effect game. Never saw any reason to honestly... Then comes along this new game that Yahtzee reviewed that might have gotten me to buy a console with no backwards compatibility. It might have, but as we all know after the almighty Magikarp, Yahtzee is the highest of gods. He may not flop in the same majestic way, but his words are no less unwise. You don't even need a translator that may or may not just be screwing with you about what your god is saying.

I hate the dumbed down combat actually. I can deal with all the other weaker aspects, but it has lost all value as a tactical shooter. I play on insanity difficulty where the teammates are absolutely useless except for the Drack, who is the only likable character in the game. In the other games, teammates were very important for harder difficulties. There used to be a synergy in planning your squad's abilities and equipment, but all that is gone. Your squad mates are not much more than a few moments of bullet sponge now.
@ShortVideosRUs7 жыл бұрын
At the sacrifice of good writing in what is meant to be an RPG? I don't think that's a fair trade.
@Odilwerk7 жыл бұрын
Yet they gutted out squad actions so we can't give direct commands. Whilst the jetpack they've implemented constantly gets stuck on everything, whilst simultaneously being redundant on higher difficulties due to damage taken. I'd honestly say it's a step backwards for the series. It feels like a sub-par TPS; which the Mass Effect has always felt like, but the depth always elevated it above that. Now there's nothing to redeem it.
@LaughingOwl107 жыл бұрын
It's great combat if you like every enemy being a bullet sponge and seriously limiting what abilities you can use.

The description of the combat being like managing a swimming trip for 5 year olds is spot on for how I feel about Bioware games. I tried playing Mass Effect and Dragon Age Origins. I never got very far in either. In the case of DAO I didn't even get out the castle I'd started in with my city elf. In the case of ME I got far enough to form a party for a side mission and then stopped. I was bored by both games and having to manage a party like that is highly annoying to me. If I am working with NPCs I'd rather them just look after themselves without me having to tell them what to do (I know that's sort of optional), what to wear, what weapons to use, etc. it's part of why I love BioShock Infinite: I don't have to worry one bit about Elizabeth. I can do the fighting while she tosses me health, salt, and ammo, and she won't die on me while I'm shooting everyone trying to kill us. In games where I do have to keep an NPC alive for a side quest, I end up saving at strategic points and just going back if I fuck up and they die; or, realistically, they get too far from me so I can't go save their ass before they've gotten themselves killed.
