Indigenous Dravidans of Odisha got sanskitised and Vaishnavism engulfed the land. Similarly all the Rangaswamy or Aranganathan poses of vishnu are all inspired from sleeping Buddha Statues. The oldest sleeping Buddha statue in India is from Ajantha caves which is around 5th century AD. The Srirnagam temple and idols are all from later period.

Problem with Patnaik is his sense of displacement especialy after the spate of expanding , authentic , young scholars of original texts who are straddling the Indic theater. His monopoly position in an uninformed populace is being dismantled by these robust scholars free of ideological trappings that Patnail surreptitiously used to advantage for long. His authoritative pronouncements on the epics , the vedas , brahmanas , gita without a shred of expertise on Sanskrit is dishonest to say the least. He imperiousy misleads that the Vedas, upanishads do not have any mention of Shiva and Uma etc. He omits that the puranas do that... He uses his dispersed scholarship to dazzle out a niche for himself resulting in a pathetic mish mash of political narrative building , ideological dislike of a political.party. No hindu including the worst of politicians will fall for a narrative that Hinduism is monolithic, homogenous edifice. Even a moron in a village knows that and doesnt need the lecture. He should stop indulging in dog whistles and political arraignment.
