Nice review. Funny how Apple sent the 512GB model instead the base one with the slower SSD issues. We will just wait for the "Can you really use the M2 Macbook Air as your only video editting computer" video, featuring the base model of course, and see how it compares to the M1 base model that you did almost two years ago. Would much appreciate to see the time differences between these two base models for the same load.

I know youre probably working on review of the M2 MacBook Air and as a fellow Northeast Ohioan, I would love to see a real life performance review. One that actually does the things that the MacBook Air was designed to do. The Everyday stuff like watching KZbin videos, sending emails, surfing the web, Using Pages, Number and Keynote or the Office Suite. I don't think you're a graphic designer but it would be great to see how Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop performs. Im going out a limb here and say the that the M2 MBA won't overheat and that RAM and even swap won't be an issue. It's so maddening that a certain set of reviewers are focusing on the entirely the wrong thing. I haven't seen one review that mentions battery life or comparing displays. Just how many past MacBook Air owners even own Final Cut Pro or Lightroom. Thanks, love your channel and looking forward to your review.

It's all about the thermal throttling. All the reviews on the M2 13 MacBook Pro were focused on issues related to slow hard drives and the M2 being hotter. I'm sure they used the same cheap hard drives so the 256 model Air model should have similar issues and the 256 Pro. The big difference is going to be the fan in the Pro since the Air doesn't have one. The M1 didn't need a fan. I'm with you Gary that is was a brilliant machine and had plenty of performance. If this M2 chip runs hotter and the only way to cool it down is to throttle then it could actually be the same or worse than the M1. I have a feeling that your instincts on buying a M1 at much cheaper price is going to be the smart move.

What do you mean "cheap hard drives"? Don't say something you don't even understand. Having single 256gb NAND chip is not cheap. The reason it being slower is simply because it uses a single NAND instead of two in the previous M1 versions.

You can call it whatever you want because we all know that using a single 256gb NAND chip is cheaper than using dual 128gb NAND chips when chips are in short supply. The bottom line is that there is no way this should be slower than it was on the previous generation, especially if you are paying more.

$300-$350 difference is not "a little bit more". It is around 30% more, which is significant. I thought that M2 MBA will be much thinner, but it appears in practice it might feel even thicker than M1 MBA because it is much thicker in the front. I really like traditional MBA design

M1 vs M2 MacBook Air Video editing. I would love to see that!!!

I've been using a MBA for over 10 year ( I own a 2012 13" MBA), and the wedge-shape feels great. Because of my job I type for hours on the computer, so ergonomics and typing comfort are essential for me. I am in the market for a new MBA, I just don't know if I should go for the M1 or the M2. Biggest appeal for the M2 is the MagSafe, but I am worried about the lack of the wedge-shape. You mentioned that when typing for a long time on the 14" MBP your wrists get a little sore. If you have a chance to type for a while on the M2 MBA, please let me know if the problem persists or disappears because of the lower height of the keyboard. If it hurts, that would be a deal breaker for me. Thanks in advance.

If you're on a 2012 MBA and the main thing you do is typing as opposed to more demanding tasks, I would 100% buy the entry level M1 MBA. As someone who upgraded myself, it's a profound evolution, and you won't regret it. The battery lasts so long that you probably won't be worrying about needing a midday MagSafe fast charge.

I have a MBA M1. I use it for emails, quotes, youtube, web browsing, excell and office use, netflix, and home designing. The M2 base model with the slower speed will still do that and better. I am not transferring a huge pile of files and the ssd isnt gonne be the thing thats working overtime. Its the cpu and gpu chips.

At first, I wanted to buy the MacBook Pro 13 or 14 inch but you man convinced me to buy the MacBook Air. Just get 16GB of RAM and the speed difference will be moot. It is only slow in swap and transfers, normal read and writes never really use the full speed (check your daily routine to see that). So if you have 16GB of RAM you will hardly ever need swap so you will not get slowdowns.

Stop bashing the 16 inch M1 that is better in every way. I have it, and use it heavy no issues. Try using a CLEAR CASE that is rounded for super soft girl hands. My 2015 MBP Is sharp. I also remember the days where I could scratch my hands with then trop hinge and it was so SHARP

Love the midnight blue color over the Starlight color. Midnight blue very close to "Back to Black". If I was going to purchase the new M2 Laptop with no name on it that Apple called MacBook Air it would be midnight blue color. When the Apple MacBook Air first came out, and Steve pulled it out of the interoffice envelopes with string 10x13 I though I would get this in a heartbeat if I only had a need for a laptop. Still do not have real need for a laptop, however last March when Apple did not come out with a 27-inch 5K M1 iMac I purchased a M1 MackBook Air, and 27-inch 5K VESA mount/arm as my replace for my 2014 5K 27-inch iMac. My hope is that Apple keeps the Jony, and Steve design around as a SE entry level $ 999.00 version of the MacBook Air. Just keep it with the previous version M series SOC for normals who just do things like eMail, surf the web, and watch your KZbin type clips. The loss to the link one of my great Steve moments during presentations will hurt if Apple does not keep the original MacBook Air design around.

It's a shame that neither of the M1 Macbook Air nor the M2 Macbook Air models support dual external monitor. I've seen a few solutions where you simply use "Hubs" to workaround this issue. However, while going through product reviews many users complained about having their macbooks died right after using these accessories and other argued that they simply used "cheap" ones, as their premium hubs work just fine. It would be very helpful if you could kindly recommend tested hubs/dongles (or any other solutions to have dual external monitor). Thanks!

Im in Ireland and the prices new are; M2 Macbook pro 8gb, 512gb is €1859 M2 Macbook air 8gb, 512gb is €1879 Both have 8 core cpu, 10 core gpu, it will be for everyday use and 2 - 3, 10/15 minute 4k videos a month at most. Sound like you keep your laptop for a long time so do not cheap out. Look at it as an investment for the next 10 years and the M2 is better than the M1, clearly. I would get the 16GB version for future proofing. If you are unable to afford that then the M1 will be fine but again get 16GB of RAM for headroom.

The bandwidth and ssd speeds are half that of the 14, and 16 macbooks I think. So upgrading the ram will make a marginal difference. Apples 16gb of ram seems to work really well so I think that'll be just fine I doubt 24 gb will really change anything. It just apples way of trying to exploit as much cash out of you as they can which is why the 24gb ram and option is so expensive.

@@ahsoka6807 The RAM is significantly faster on the M2 so that for me is far more important than the bandwidth for my workload. Just check out Da Vinci insanely fast rendering using the M2, twice as fast as the M1. As for RAM, you can never have enough and great for future-proofing.

My workflow: 5-10 chrome windows having almost 10 tabs open in each window, a video open in vlc media player(I'll probably won't have to use vlc on a mac), and a file is being downloaded in Utorrent. I'm waiting for MT to do a SSD speed test on the M2 base model. That will be my deciding factor, but I am not hopeful... as you point out, Apple is sending out 512GB models for that very reason.

You will be far more sensible to buy 16GB of RAM than upgrade the SSD. Not sure why people are recommending a storage upgrade over a RAM upgrade as that is dumb. If you are using swap (when the 256GB slows down) that is because you only have 8GB of RAM. Up the RAM and you will not need to swap; ergo 256GB will be fine. If you are constantly transferring large files the 256GB will be slower, but then you should probably be using a 1TB NAND for that workload so that is moot.
