In the end, the utopian society was the tenth moon. The planet of souls. In thier desperation to become more than human, they lost the one thing that made them human. They feel no empathy, only hatred and anger that in the end they are unable to achieve their final goal. They hate us because we let go of our desire to cause unnecessary suffering in the chase of a goal that, to thier own suffering, will always remain out of reach.

A utopian society would mean the elimination of individuality. There can be no fleeting thoughts and would require much more brainwashing than we get now😁. The population would also have to remain small and manageable. So impossible?

@@reddoomedearth4020 Except that doesn't really apply to them. The Utopians don't believe they're doing this for our benefit, they want to make *us* suffer for *their* good, and then act like their "love" is enough to justify that. They're taking something that would be noble and beautiful if the ones suffering were doing it willingly (sacrificing for another), and turning it into a monstrosity by making it compulsory (forcing others to suffer for them).

@@CantusTropus You're right, this comment was made sort of before the real reveal/conclusion on the matter, but it's still, at the very least, the front that they put on for this, due to the angle of 'you have to suffer and die but it's totally for the betterment of everyone, and you want that, right?'

The first humans who were exiled to the Planet of Hands and who created their own civilization in hope of challenging and destroying the Utopia, were the real heroes all this time. And like in a perfect tragedy, they've lost before this story of SCP-001 has even began. R.I.P for the fallen civilization of the exiles of the Planet of Hands.

You guys are very limited in thinking. What was impossible that was as simple as flight, international communication, the internet, and super skyscrapers just a little over aa century ago is all now possible. They thought similar was impossible too. How foolish. Instead of believing human failure over human success (no thanks to the popular notion of "humanity is unnatural") then, maybe you'd realize how much we've achieved in a small time and what is possible (that maybe we haven't imagined yet that we'd discover) in equally the same time in the future. Impossible in human history has a habit of being debunked in regards to technology. It's perhaps only a matter of time.

Similar concept, with just as little explanation of _why_ that suffering had to happen. In Omelas, it's a metaphor. On the Planet of Hands, it's probably some kind of magic. I actually have my own wacko theory about Omelas: the kid in the cellar in a ruse. A scary story told to children, occasionally reinforced by small groups of people getting only a brief look at some clever practical effects. Anyone who thinks the pointless suffering of one single child is actually, literally enough to make an entire utopia function is letting their pessimism overrule their basic reasoning. I wouldn't want to try running a perfect society with those kinds of people around, either.

There is no boon worth the price of the eternal torture of sentient beings. Any Utopia that claims to be so is a dystopia in disguise. In pursuit of perfect happiness, SCP 001 creates perfect torture. In attempting to eliminate suffering from a society, not only do they fail, but they miss the very point. The point to life is not to experience as little suffering as possible, but to learn how to live with suffering in your life, without letting that hurt you. To experience suffering, yes. But not to let that wound you. For in doing so, you do not experience it. Sadness is a part of life; you may think this might someday be under your control, but it is not. Therefore, we must learn to experience sadness, no matter how bad it may seem, so that it can end. Otherwise, sadness and suffering just fester, and fester. Those 9 moons will eventually rebel. Untill you, as an individual, and therefore by extension, humanity, can learn to experience and properly express and live through suffering, sufferring and sadness will only fester, as they do in scp 001 and as they do on earth now and today.

Step one: Use Bright to infiltrate the utopia Step two: Trick the people of the utopia to demonstrate their "love" by killing someone from earth and broadcast it to all 9 moons Step three: Offer up Clef. Step four: Have Clef's faced covered by a bag for the broadcast Step five: The moment Clef is stabbed, play the sound of a farm animal being slaughtered Step six: remove the bag, broadcast shows Clef with the head of that farm animal The people on the moons will interpret it as the people of the utopia think they are just livestock, causing all 9 moons to revolt.

Falke admits that they think abusers love their victims but in a twisted way, so I think they’re not that naive about abuse. They just don’t think abusers’ forms of care are valid or acceptable enough to constitute as real love, which makes sense. Abusers usually grow up also abused and therefore don’t know how Love and care is actually supposed to be done, hence their actions in a relationship may be hurtful or selfish instead. That sounds like them not really knowing how to show real love to me.

I think the nature of the Tower is important to the resolution. For that which the Tower contains is that which never was. If the "Utopian" woman was trapped there, that means she was never real, which has some serious implications. The only way for the unrealized things to become real is for them to be brought out of the Tower. The woman was killed in the Tower, which means that not only did she not exist, but she never can exist. Thus, the explosion negated her existence entirely, undoing anything that requires that she exist.
@dracorex426
@dracorex426 3 жыл бұрын
Also possibly noteworthy: She wanted him, possibly needed him, to make a choice, and walking away would have also been choice. But he didn't make any choice at all. She did. She killed him, and in so doing destroyed the Tower and killed herself. It's like he couldn't intentionally destroy it - actively hitting a button wouldn't work - but he could passively allow its destruction. A dead man's switch can't be activated on purpose. It isn't an act and thus isn't a choice. He didn't make any choices after entering the Tower.
@dracorex426
@dracorex426 3 жыл бұрын
Like, I don't know exactly what happened or what it meant, but I suspect that the destruction of the Tower was far more significant than a simple symbolic act. Like, negate-the-very-reality-of-an-integral-part-of-their-very-existence-level significant. Probably not enough to erase them completely, but a crippling blow none-the-less.

Without this second part this was making out to be a great parable for the applied human potential, for how sacrifice on behalf of all in the present is neccessary and will lead to the progress and proliferation and happiness for all in the future... for the optimization of the future the necessity of the perceived logistical flaws in the optimization of the unfeasible plans to be incorporated and integrated with that of the present(ly cruel and uncaring, deluded and disillusioned) systems and organizations by re-evaluating our parameters and priorities, in order to secure and ensure said future, not for the continued perpetuation and all too lenient allowances made of hedonism of the few...* but for the future of the whole, of humanity as it could be, as it's going to be, whatever its going to be, (no matter how strange and alien it may seem to us with our current limited perceptions... in particular I'm reminded of a line from the Shakespeare's Tempest here and on this matter...) regardless of the past sins and failings... all in hopes of the many achieving same status and "freedom" for themselves or their offspring at the cost their present sacrifices and suffering, (mostly needless with just* a better implementation in systems of our already present knowledge), a false hope, falsely perpetuated (with and without awareness on behalf of our bureaucracy) and exploited unto an ever degenerating, corrupt and corruptible system of populace management... alas, we end up with a rhetoric (while admittedly clever and apt metaphorically, hittng a bit "too close to home" for my reading comforts(seeing how I'm already viewing the same reality as is)) on the all too real and all too prevalent human trait of enforced false duality and our paradoxical nature of self-subversion by expedition and delusion...

@@cadman02 yup! Like there are a lot of similarities with the two works. You have the people who stay in utopia at the expense of the child's suffering = the humans who think they're perfect and that suffering is necessary, the people who walk away = humans who rebelled by leaving the planet of hands. Then there's also the theme of suffering and aspects that make humanity human, not some perfect creation. I find this proposal more appealing to me than the Ouroboros Cycle because of these themes and how it doesn't really become fantastical to the point where I can't suspend my disbelief, even though I like the action-packed narrative of the O.C.

This would be cool, like if it was changed so that the awful thing that in 5000 (I think it was like our self-preservation instinct, or our souls, or something) was instilled in us by the utopians so that we wouldn't just Commit Unalive so we wouldn't have to suffer for them. As it stands, this story also has the same vibe of "everything is ending" with the desperate grasping for some kind of reset button. 001 gets it right in that "So long as suffering has a purpose, it has value", but gets it wrong in that you can't just inflict suffering on people, tell them it has a (self-serving) purpose, and then sit content in your utopia even if you honor praise and adore those you have made to suffer.

I love how the guy is getting his hand slowly sawed off and that dosen't effect him but cauterizing it with a torch that would take a lot longer then just a quick burn make him scream for only a moment and he is ready to answer more stupid questions.

One of the harder ones to follow and one of the best ones written. Lets take a moment to remember that authors of SCPS are largely operating under a pen name, with legends going off reservation to secretly flex their prose and knock another one out of the ballpark without you looking at the name on their jersey. Theres something to be said about the wandering samurai who fights for nothing.

That was all very confusing. Why do they need humans to come back "home" if humans are the descendants of people who were exiled to the Planet of Hands, where apparently life expectancy is about two weeks? Shouldn't they still be sending people there? I also don't really like the message of "oh, humans need to die and suffer". At the end that never really gets pushed back against and ultimately there's just a divide between people who seem psychologically manipulated into a religious suffering and people who refuse to play Jesus so that everyone in Utopia can be happy.

I agree. It doesn't make sense why they want all these humans to come back when there's already disposable humans there that they might've accumulated over thousands of years.

Some people just don't feel at ease unless others are suffering for or because of them. Rituals and symbolism is also a feel good habit even if it doesn't really do anything.

One request, could you state somewhere how many parts there are if you split them? I like to listen to those in one go, and I'm unsure beforehand whether a part two is the final part of if part three is coming (as happened with Apotheosis, for example). Thanks :)

On the topic of death vs enslaved suffering, and the mention of 9 moons, it made me think of the 3 moons initiative, and if they have enough power to overthrow these "space human" entities. In this scenario, death IS the best alternative, b/c Corbinik actually sounds like a decent place if death is swift and merciful.
