@@HelghastTrooper Well, in the original story, it breaks out and is roaming around the countryside stomping houses & sucking up cows (not exaggerating much) for some good few weeks. I don't think its insinuated its dealt much damage? Given its basically a dang flesh wall at that point. It ends with it crying on the mountain peak before zapping away. One of my favorite bits of this story is that Armitage is one of Wilbur's penpals and actually comes to visit him in Dunwich once. It makes way more sense why Armitage would let him in to read the Necronomicon, and why Armitage so quickly becomes a believer in what Wilbur might do with unfettered access to it. Also props to Dr. Morgan for insisting on repping the .700 Nitro Express, lol

This is probably my favourite Lovecraft story. The combination of creeping and growing horror mixed with an element of scientific discovery, then throw in a small group of brave men willing to stand against the evil and a payoff at the end as the horror is met and fought. Opening with a chapter-length description of Dunwich and its surroundings was a brilliant idea on Lovecraft’s part. I love that he takes time to bring us into the atmosphere of the story, and he does it so evocatively that we feel the town’s deep-rooted weirdness before we know anything about Armitage or the Watleys.

It makes it the best stories to listen to while playing Minecraft. That's why I'm always down for audiobooks. The way they're read here is amazing. The added voice acting recently really elevates the experience too. Nice as always.

It's very American. 19th century American, that is. If you read some Edgar Allan Poe you will see where Lovecraft got the style. Even some of the themes. Poe has a prose novel called The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, where you see almost all the odd elements found a century later in Lovecraft, like in particular the curious blend of science and mysticism. But he also has many short stories that pull in a similar direction.
