I think she drinks alot these days and her lifestyle as well is busier- that irritates her nodules and also prevents her time from immense warmup. Someone from her team told me that Mimi was extremely gutted by Rockerfella performance- she didn't talk for 3 days strictly and she was warming up extensively. On the 18th she took a whole day off and warmed up- the kids were taken out. 19th she warmed up intensively for 4hrs before the show interpolated with a good night sleep and that continued throughout the shows. And she didn't have any sip of wine at all during the shows. That was how her voice got in shape almost close to 2003 vocals!!! That's why her belts and her agility came back to near peak form so incredibly- her whistles as well. And you could tell her lower register in this show wasn't the best because her natural voice is Soprano- so her lows were naturally difficult to achieve. That routine especially now with growing kids is fairly unsustainable.

Especially now she is entering a crucial period(49yrs to 52yrs for ANY LADY is a crucial period due to Menopause- a decline in female hormones affects the voice regardless of technique and genre). So I'd really want her to get it together because I am sure that from next year her voice will begin being inconsistent due to hormonal issues- but with vocal warmup routine and maintaining of technique she can still pull off a degree of consistency

I went opening night of the Christmas show in 2014 (2nd row) and everyone was nervous because of the Rockefeller thing the week before (she was sick, c'mon people!) and whispers around me was that she dodged the big notes during rehearsal and no one was confident and then she came out and sounded better then she had in YEARS. I'm a hardcore lamb (seen her 20 plus times) and know when she's lipsynching and will be the first one to say she doesn't sound good (I saw her in LA and Anaheim on The Adventures of Mimi Tour and homegirl should have cancelled those shows) but MY GOD! She was really trying (and I could tell she was trying more during the Elusive Chanteuse Tour after she fully recovered from bronchitis) and the audience felt it and was giving her so much love that she cried during Hero (until her mic pack fell off then laughed. I was sobbing and don't really care for Hero) and I was also there a few shows later when she added Emotions and We Belong Together and her voice got BETTER! She's been working hard and touring SO MUCH these last 4+ years and you have to remember in the 90's, she did less then 30 concerts so she was basically on vocal rest all of the time and could literally sit at home and sell 30 million albums. She's done 35 concerts since July of this year and over 100 in the last 3 years and she's not in her 20's anymore and has nodules. Her voice is sensitive and I'm glad that she's still out there working it.

dreamytay The biggest problem she has is she wrote her big definitive songs in very high key and made them really challenging. But she was in her 20’s, wasn’t going on tour and just living in the studio and she had the ability to sing her songs that way. She’s still a great vocalist, her issue is singing Mariah Carey songs she wrote in her youth and living in a business that has switched to touring and live gigs year round since people don’t purchase music like they did in the 90s. And remember, Whitney wasn’t even attempting a lot of her bigger hits that were more difficult to sing on her last few tours (before the final terrible one). Women just get the raw end of the deal when it comes to vocal decline and Mariah and Whitney were so masterful and impactful nobody can do what they did.

Best years in decade vocally: 1. 2016 - Most fearless, confident reaching up to F5 belt so clear, very nice ad-libing, consistent vocals, resonance & ease, girly/young tone, so many vocal prime attempts. So very large vocal improvement this year. 2. 2014 - Comeback voice was from Beacon Theatre, better than CB era. very nice ad-libing too, very girly/young tone, so many live whistles. Confident hitting many E5s especially in AIWFCIY & O Holy Night. Her belts decreased raspiness. 3. 2013 - Slight girly tone, strong belts up to F#5, many live whistles. 4. 2010 - Strong belts up to E5. Less raspy vocals. 5. 2018 - Most consistent year vocally, confident but less vocal prime attempt, resonance, good vocal technique, girly tone. 6. 2015 - Improved clear belts especially those Eb5s in VOL & in Baby Please Come Home (specifically Dec 17 & 18), fluidity, rich low notes & middle belts. 7. 2019 - Confident on hitting whistle notes LIVE especially in the song "Caution", girly tone, decreased confidence in belting notes. 8. 2012 - Amazing mid-belts but tonally nasal, raspy & inconsistent. 9. 2017 - Resonance, consistent, but not tonally wise, just became darker, began her vocals to play safe. 10. 2011 - A non-singing year

You're reaching. I don't think you can have multiple primes, especially since the first 7 years of her career shits on everywhere else but maybe Charmbracelet. I would put her prime as 1990-2005 (1999 and 2000 were just her voice maturing, and she wasn't lipping nearly as much as in 2003 onwards). 2009 and 2010, she lipped too much and her belts weren't fluid (despite being a lot clearer than the last few years before). I would say 2013 and 2014 had some really good moments (Jimmy Fallon probably sits in her top 5 performances of all time) and it was the last time she's had a full package voicewise (whispers, whistles and upper belts were demonstrated that we had not seen since Charmbracelet). 2015 and 2016 were probably just as good as 2009 and 2010. It's quite sad how quick her whistles changed tonewise from 2014 to 2015 and by 2018 she's struggling to reach the fifth octave. I think if she rested there'd be nothing stopping from going into another "prime".

Her voice didn't declined during that time, indeed it was inclined & entered a 3rd prime era. Vocally wise, fluidity, increased of ease & resonance were evidently seen in this era especially in 2016. Her confidence pushed her to hit a lot of prime vocals.
