10:20 The line about "even if you win, she'll never let you go" reminded me a lot of the Stephen King story 1408, where a notable line is when the room talks to Mike Enslin, the voice says "even if you leave this room, you can never leave this room". Which goes into the theory that Mike never escaped the room and was also trapped forever

I wonder if the reason Coraline cannot tap into the power of the eyes is because in order to use that power, it might require to give up something like maybe the users eyes. Remmeber how even when we see the beldam make real eyes for herself, there a copy of Mel's eyes! Not the Beldam's REAL eyes! Maybe that might explain the house being alive. I think to defeat the beldam, maybe one would need to find the beldam's eyes among surrounding illusions and set the beldam's eyes free.
@brennaflaherty88714 ай бұрын
That's a good theory. Changelings didn't have button eyes so maybe she was a changeling who sacrificed her eyes to gain more power or a human who sacrificed her eyes to become a changeling.

The picture in the hallway is definitely coraline’s room as you can see from the furniture, but it looks like a different angle of it, or maybe a previous version of it that the other ghost children had.
@WxddingTheFox4 ай бұрын
And also,I think the bug furniture are robots, that only the beldam can control (as seen with the other father, wybie) but unlike them, they have no control over er themselves bc they were created to obey, they can’t do anything because they were meant to be furniture, so it’s not like they can run and save Coraline. I don’t know, maybe I’m overthinking. (and that’s why when the room was falling apart none of them could move.)

@cynthiacano844 ай бұрын
When you mentioned that the Beldam must have more eyes other than the kids (at least one more set), I wonder if it's Coraline's. She's probably been syphoning Coraline's energy throughout, or maybe it's to do with Coraline perceiving that world that gives it form - maybe that's what the eyes do? It lends a little to the "i'll die without you" screams as well...

For why Coraline doesn't use the power from the spheres, I think it's because she'd need to be magical like the Beldam to use it (like how Hades ember in Descendants 3 only worked for him and other people who were his blood but with being magical rather than blood) or it's something only the Beldam can use(like how Evie's magic mirror in Descendants only worked for her). Also for why the atter stone melted, it's because it's not stone, it's made of hard taffy.

I have a few possible explanations for some of the parts you questioned! These explications sort of angle more towards the “coraline escaped” side, but I still thought they might be neat! The other mother herself could be a power source the way the ghost kids “eyes” are. She mainly stays confined to the pink palace (minus meeting coraline at the top of the stairs after the theatre show), so she could be powering the pink palace area. Which could explain why it didn’t go into the void. For the bedlam losing her button eyes, it could be that since she had them physically removed- she may not be able to “regenerate” them as they could’ve been the original ones. Sort of a “as long as you have the original item, you can make illusions/new items” situation. And lastly, the ghost kids may not have been able to help earlier because they weren’t “strong” enough. They had just been powering other attractions for who knows how many years, only to be yanked out suddenly. They might have needed time to “recharge”- and luckily, were able to recharge enough to help pull the door closed! I’m not sure how much these may hold up, but it’s fun to think about! Wait I just remembered- maybe the reason we only see six limbs in the Other Mothers final form, is because it’s *not* her final form. What if there was a scarier version that coraline didn’t get to see?

Thank you for making these videos! I've really been enjoying them. Coraline being in limbo has struck a cord with me. about 3-4 months ago after a year of intense lucid dreams, I had a dream that I entered a coma, was greeted by a dead relative that I wasn't close with (I have others I would of rather seen tbh) he looked almost cartoonish and he told me that "This was it" that I died. I started freaking out, and then started having a sequence of false awakenings. It would like I would wake up and get out of bed only to notice little details off in my bedroom. One of them being a calendar and my black cats litter box being in a different area... once I would realize things being off I would wake back up laying down on my back... still in bed. This happened 3 times before I last Dreamt of meeting a very old thin lady named "grammy" I didn't recognize her. It was very scary and My life has only been getting worse since it happened. This all reminds me of Coraline and Im a little freaked

Okay the boy in blue with the ice cream, his clothes are in the corridor when she's doing her last "escape" he is the missing soul keeping her powerful. Also my guess the first victim 🤷♀️ I honestly thought about it as the world the beldum is in is rejecting her without her power, as one does with a parasite. Without her magic the other world (being an older and more powerful entity explained in the book) can get rid of her. That's why she's afraid she'll die without Coraline (OM yells that when the corridor is shrinking)

Of course the house and the Other World itself is alive and breathing, and yes the original book strongly hints at this. Watch the Theorizer's video, "Coraline: Literally every mystery solved (theory)", ALL OF IT, especially part 9 through 13, he explains who the true villains in "Coraline" is and hint, hint it's NOT the Beldam, there's something far worse and far more ancient and evil than her out there and Gaiman's original book itself says so: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2SvlWCrYrufj7s Also, Coraline never escaped/left the Other World and she was just getting deeper and deeper into the belly of the beast every time she fell asleep in the Other World and then walked through tunnels/portals, she's still trapped in a fake illusory copy of the real world: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKuQpouuabKMfa8 kzbin.info/www/bejne/npuWaGh3psx3Zq8 kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXSQqIlmmM-Zhq8 "The best way to keep a prisoner from escaping is to make sure he never knows he's in prison" - Fyodor Dostoevsky. The book (by Neil Gaiman) makes it a lot more clear but the Other Mother is just a parasitic creature living in the throat of the TRUE MONSTER. As the book goes on you hear more references to SOMETHING STRONGER (something "very old/ancient and very slow" at that time but it's getting STRONGER), and eventually it begins to WAKE UP as coraline "escapes". The Other World (including his portals, like the one used by Coraline) is an ancient and evil entity and a parasitic eldritch abomination plane of existence that drains the life of all who enters it, his physical embodiment appears in the form of a "cat". The corridor/tunnel/portal is the "cat" 's throat and the well with "it's sky full of stars" where the Beldam sent the doll floating at the beginning of the movie is another portal and the "cat" 's esophagus, taking a portal/tunnel to the Other World is to go straight into the belly of the (demonic) beast. It's all so lovecraftian eldritch horror, isn't? The reason the "cat" has no "real name" is because he's so ancient that humans have forgotten what he is and what he was called and because giving away his "real name" would give others power over him. But of course he lies about that and claims to be just a dumb cat and that he thinks that cats "don't need" names. Watch The Theorizer's Coraline theory series, especially part 9 through 13... Mimi.

I really don't think that even if Coraline thought of it she would have been able to use the ghost eyes powers mainly because I think they just hold the spirit of the child the real power is with the Beldam who's already consumed the soul if your theory here is correct the power wouldn't have to be the eyes themselves it's just something to distract and redirect Coraline.

I always thought it was interesting that the Beldam went completely blind once her button eyes were removed. I always felt she could see through ALL the button eyes, and there are still button eyes on furniture in her den. So shouldn't she have been able to see through them. Also if the Beldam cannot manipulate space in the real world, how is she able to change the length of the tunnel when she is beating down the door? I feel at a certain point she would cross into the "real world" territory and couldn't change or create space anymore. It reinforces your theory that Caroline never actually escapes the other world.

@16:29 - @16:47 The missing two appendages, perhaps Coraline isn't the first child to fight back and the previous child/children caused her to lose an arm or two? I mean, she's practically Edwawina Scissorhands right now. She's finked her way out of a few Fairy Deals before and has, due to Grandma's diligence, failed to get ahold of another child for at least 49 years at this point, but if she has other portals who's to say she hasn't tried somewhere else and failed?

What if the beldam saying “I see you brought vermin” - meaning Coraline as opposed to the cat. And then why didn’t the beldom pierce her fingers in the cat when she supposedly doesn’t like him? Then as for what the beldam could be, I think she could be a raspy cricket? They produce silk, are nocturnal (which is why the other world is always at night) - during the day they rest (which is why coraline couldn’t come to the other world when her “real” mother goes shopping), they are also omnivores, are wingless, & it has one of the most strongest bites of the insect world - hope that’s something to think about ☺️

Also, I remember it was in the book, but I thought it was in the movie, too... Didn't she swear on her hand with this agreement? I've read a romance novel series that focuses on Fae and Fairies and the like where there is a lot of empathise on how a deal with "The Fae Folk" is binding. Like, a Human can back out of the deal, but the Fae/Fairy/Angel/Demon that backs out of the deal or fails to hold up their end forfeits their life. Perhaps, the loophole is that the Beldame never shook when Coraline agreed to the deal so it's not seen as a true deal?

Coraline can't use the power of the souls because she isn't a creature capable of channeling that power. If you aren't a fish, can you breath water? Can the fish walk on land without legs? The Beldam is an entity that can use this power, Coraline isn't. The souls aren't magical trinkets like the One Ring that anyone can use, their value to the Beldam is different than their value to Coraline. I think there is also some merit to @jdblue9460 saying there needs to be an exchange. Beldam keeps pushing for the button eyes as a kind of contract. Being tricked into the game is a way for the Beldam to force Coraline to willingly accept the buttons without having to pretend anymore. Beldam is hungry and wants the power of another soul, so she agrees thinking beating an 11 year old will be easy.
