Being married to someone with a similar mental illness this movie really got to me, especially because I was not expecting to be the movie it is. I cried for Ryan Reynold's character when realizing how bad his world is on his meds and he'd rather be in his happy fantasy world without them. It broke me. Ryan reynolds really showed me his best in this I think.

It's the unfortunate truth for so many psychotropic medications. They make you complaint for society, and, beyond that, no one cares what it does to your head or how they can demolish your emotional states (like, with depression, instead of feeling highs and lows, you just flatline, which is why I've had several friends who ended up dying rather than choosing between having zero feelings and not being able to get by in the world). @@TheFangirlWatches I'm having a rough time right now with my husband and his meds,they make him "normal" but he says he feels lik a zombie on them and doesn't want to take them anymore. On the hard road of finding what medication does work with less side effects,but so far he has gotten the best results from THC...

The whole subplot of the movie was what Jerry REFUSED to acknowledge; he was a killer. He was psychotic. He was so in to his personal delusions that he could rationalize what he did thru his pets. But what he WANTED more than anything else was to be normal...tho he knew he could never be that. And that was why he ultimately killed himself. This movie made me much more sympathetic to mental illness and why normal folk CANNOT understand the crazies. It was sad...and COMPLETELY understandable. *edit So everything you said lol

I think that was the most jarring part of the movie - that everyone wanted to help him, but what they could do was extremely limited to where Jerry couldn't even trust the people who meant well.

Yeees!! One of my favorite movies EVER!!! So freaking good! The cat voice is so damn funny! Also i don't think he is actually dead yet at the end. I think it's still a state of psychosis. He's just passed out from the fumes. He is imagining/living his ideal after life. And THEN he actually dies when the credits end. Which to me makes it even more tragic. (Then again my lack of belief in an after life may be influencing the way I see this scene.)

You're not wrong, he could totally be in a delusional coma-dream at the end while he's dying, but for all intents and purposes it's essentially the same thing. Even if he was dead at that point it's still his brain filling in a happily ever after.

I started to watch this movie a while back but got distracted and forgot. I'll definitely go back it's very interesting. Jerry is the perfect example of someone who needs to be incarcerated for life or heavily monitored in a special kind of halfway house. There's plenty of blame to go around but at the end of the day, Jerry's a danger to others due to his extreme inability to function in normal society.
@TheFangirlWatches5 жыл бұрын
And that's what makes the question so hard to answer. Jerry willingly went to the asylum to keep his mom out of it, and then the state forced him out of there (likely due to budget cuts or wanting to free up a bed). So, yes, Jerry did the actions, but he also wouldn't have been free if not for the system letting him go.

The Fangirl totally agree! I didn’t even notice that part about Fiona using lots of British slang until you mentioned it! There are really so many layers to jerry and so many questions too! Lots of room to theorize like where did his pets even come from? Are they actually his or are they strays? He probably wouldn’t be permitted to adopt an animal from the shelter because of his criminal record so where did they come from or were they in his head too?

The End of the F***ing World is good , The first season is good 2nd one was kinda like Once Upon a Time season 7 like what happens when you try to go past a shows ending, The only great thing about season 7 was when they did terminator 2 sarah connor escape fully reacted in the first ep , yet no one did pick up on it so weird. The End of the F***ing World has a messed up boy trying to kill a girl thinking of it over and over gain planing it but never doing it leading to a great coming of age story,

hey Megan! i'm a long time watcher and I really love your unique take on things, but i really disagree with your reading of the movie (but then again it has been a while since i've seen this movie so i probably wrong lol) i don't think Fiona was killed because Jerry thought that she wasn't perfect anymore. and i don't think the movie implied that she deserved to get murdered. i get the vibe that Fiona was just kinda shallow. just bc Fiona was shallow and then got murdered, doesn't mean that she got murdered BECAUSE she was shallow. i also feel that if Jerry was in his right state of mind he wouldn't have done any of those things. it's implied in the movie a couple of times that he's a good person. the therapist seems genuinely kind to him implying that he wasn't a 'problem child' when he was on his meds. and everyone at his workplace don't treat him as if he was a bad person they just seem to think he's weird. implying that when he was hired (and on his meds) he was a nice enough person.
@TheFangirlWatches5 жыл бұрын
Shallow is someone very self-obsessed, and according to Fiona's brief backstory of leaving her country to follow a guy that dumped her, she is/was a very loyal, giving person if you get to her inner circle. Fiona was more unwillingly to be the bad guy and tell Jerry "no, I'm not interested." Plus there was nothing shallow or any misunderstanding about her death. The reality was that Jerry hit a deer, slit it's throat in front of her like a psychopath, and then he killed Fiona when she freaked out and ran away. Her reactions there were COMPLETELY appropriate, and even if she wasn't a good character before that, she was a real, 3 dimensional character that handled a situation poorly.
