This week we travel over 1000km through the spectacular Kimberleys, to Broome in the beautiful north west.
But first, we spend a fantastic few days camping lakeside in Kununurra, Western Australia and get out on the water for a canoeing adventure. Plus we tick off another lap of Oz bucket list item, driving the infamous Ivanhoe Crossing, one of the country’s most iconic river causeways.
We overnight at Larrawa Station, half way between Halls Creek and Fitzroy Crossing, and raise questions about our safety when traveling through these remote Outback regions of Australia.
Let us know your travel recommendations and if you have any questions or comments, pop them below. We look forward to seeing you next week for another family travel road trip adventure!

As always great video. You missed out on the Bungle Bungles. Guess the weather was getting too hot. Never had a problem but heard many times a can of fly spay / aeroguard in the face works for any intuders. Unless you are fully trained i wouldn't go for a weapon such as a baseball bat as if they pull it from you it could be used against you. For safety reasons never fill the jerry can while on the van. Always place the jerry can on the ground to prevent static electricity discharge.

Thanks for another great video. The landscape looked amazing. You mentioned security so over the 40 or so years we tended to adjust things. With children we stayed at caravan parks or on private properties or in established national parks were there were amenities. Once the children did there own thing then we never camped on the side of the road or near townships. In need drove a distance off the road. On private properties or national parks we picked secluded spots. We never had a roaring fire. Safe driving.

Another great show. Im usually travelling alone so always stay where there are other people or in parks. I also carry a hand held radio which I can use as an emergency beacon or connect directly to police or at the very least a truckie to pass on a meassage. Im pleased to say that as yet Ive never had to use it. Keep up the great videos.

Wow. That's a big drive in two days. That water crossing was amazing. Well driven Kate. Loved the sunset on the property you overnighted at. I remember the great sunsets when I lived in South Australia. It sure is an amazing country. Tripping around with you guys brings back so many great memories of the vast arid beauty of Australia and the pockets of magic you come across when travelling. Thanks team. 😊

Another informative & enjoyable episode, planning this trip next year when Australia becomes one. Talking security, I have seen a product on the JB forum the ‘WITI’ anti theft device. I thought it was a good idea but forgot about it. definitely going to invest in one

Hi Paul and Katie I look forward to Sunday’s for your show. Security we have a Witi alarm system on our van, can’t use it when we are inside but when we leave our van if someone breaks in or hook up the van the lights flash, horn goes off and electric brakes lock on so can’t be towed. Great device. When we are inside we have a 200 series which has a panic alarm on the remote, we sleep with that in our cubby by the side of the bed, if someone does try to break in we would press that it would wake everyone up. Saying that we don’t camp in many caravan parks mainly free or low cost and station stays and until now have never had an issue. Safe travels x

Hey guys. Love following your journey. This episode, brought back some wonderful memories of staying in Kununurra at the Kimberleyland Waterfront Holiday Park many years ago. Please make sure that you remove any jerry can from a vehicle and place on the ground before filling with fuel. Do some research on this and you will find out why.

We did an organised Coach trip from Perth to Darwin back in June this year. We stayed at both Halls Creek and Fitzroy Crossing and were told to lock every lock that was on the door of our room and strictly not to open the door during the night no matter what. Apparently even in the resorts them try to get into your room during the night while you are in it.

Great Video. I think with regards to safety, you have to take personal responsibility, lock your doors, put everything away at night. Unfortunately there are people out there who do try to take things . We got robbed when we camped in a caravan park . They actually stole all our fishing gear from our tent. We never left anything out after that. Sad but it’s life I think.

Loved watching your video. Don't like that excessive heat .500 k days, wow that's a long time in the saddle especially towing a caravan..Don't you have a generator to run the caravan air con when you're off grid..You would have to watch young Jasper for heat stroke ..You would have to sleep in the Hilux . The hilux idling would use less than 2 litres an hour.. What grown ups dont realise that the kids are closer to the ground and it's much hotter for them down there. A friend of mine crossed the Nullabor many years ago with his wife and 3 kids with a caravan. They stopped on the side of the road for the night and a Ute stopped and a bloke was looking at the caravan. My friend got his rifle and give his wife a shot gun and told his wife if anyone tries to come through that door shoot them .He snuck out quietly and approached the Ute from the back on the driver's side and his window was open .He rested the gun on the door pointing at the bloke. He asked the bloke what do you want .The bloke said he was looking for somewhere to stay for the night .My friend told him that's my wife and kids in there you better push off .The bloke agreed and he left..That was very scary for him and his family. So Feel Good Family you take extra care .

I have travelled through that area of Halls Creek and Fitroy Crossing many times over the last 20 years and I can tell you nothing has changed, I would never stay in Halls Creek or Fitzroy Crossing. The only advice I can give is when in areas up and around parts of the Northern Territory and north WA seek advice before you go. Ive lived in the Territory for 30years and learned if unsure dont go. And always stop where there is a group of people when in small towns

The only thing i could think of for safety is to have a dog. If they were trying to break in while your in your van, for example, a dog maybe a good deterrent. Great video by the way. 👍

@@TheFeelGoodFamily well not all brand latches have this problem but something to try have Katie in the van and for her to lock the door then put a bit of paper over lock using steel open holder to clamp over handle then try and open, some brands can’t open even toilet paper is enough . Simple to take Wire off when not using.Gives lovely people time to empty or take Ute while you climb out the window 😁
