Mike, as a LEO we do not get the amount of training that I believe we need. Yes, we train and we have excellent instructors, but it’s minimal. This video taught me a lot, I’ve had to go in buildings by myself or with just one more officer. This single man CQB video pointed out a lot of small and big flaws that I have. Thank you so much for teaching us!

Bro, you have no idea. I have sort of been on both sides of this coin. I was a street cop before 9/11 happened and then I became an Air Marshal(retired now). Not that I was an "operator", but I was initially trained by those guys and have had them as co-workers. And had continuous specialized training during my career. Back in '01 there was virtually zero street cop advanced training. My eyes were opened up to a whole different world of tactics. All we ever knew as cops back then was take cover behind the car door or trunk and wait for a shootout. I also know it's impossible for departments to train as much it takes to reach this(or near) level. I look back on the ignorant(lack of training) situations I had been as a cop, compared to what I know now and I wonder how I stayed alive. Unfortunately cops have to take extra training on their own time, but fortunately there are guys like Mike out there who make info available. If I were working the street today, I would get together with some like minded co-workers and have youtube "training parties" every month for a day and practice these things. Stay safe.

When I worked for AirMunition North America as an Instructor/Trainer, we used to take down LEO’s all the time during scenario based training. Even “SWAT” is not immune to making mistakes. Out of curiosity are you at a small department or something? In my 15 years of Law Enforcement I have received a very adequate amount of bi monthly to monthly training on CQB, triage, defensive tactics, use of force scenarios, shoot house, etc. I'm Seattle PD though so not sure about smaller departments. You shouldn't be clearing buildings without a back up Officer unless of a extreme scenario where preservation of life is a must. Sounds like your department may be lacking on safety if you're clearing houses by yourself in my humble opinion.

Most likely scenario yes! Luckily for me, my brother also carries a firearm so it would be a 2 man team clearing the house. We also have a 4k square foot house including the basement so I would want a 2nd shooter withe as we have lots of opposing doors. I go to clear one and get shot in the back solo, but with a 2nd man I'm more or less all right. I'll clear while he maintains rear security, them join me in clearing if the room is big enough or has closets or doors that need to be opened to cleared. One opens the door and the second clears said space. We also know the layout of our home like the back of our hands haha so it flows seamlessly

I really beg to differ with the basic premise of this video. At the moment he sticks his head into the room past the door jamb to "visually clear" ANY quadrant, he'll get cut down by a threat in the far left or far right side of the room. He is at what is known as a "reaction-time deficit." You cannot enter a room, turn, visually recognize the difference between a person being a threat from a non-threat, bring your weapon to bear, engage them, neutralize them and do it before they simply open up on you while sitting in a corner waiting for you to enter through the doorway. Regardless if an assailant is at the left or the right they will open up on the man entering the doorway killing him faster than he can engage the threat. It's pre-programmed into their brain as they wait to ambush you. They are prepared to instantly engage whomever they see, the moment they enter the doorway. They don't care who it is. So how do you make the entry with the least amount of exposure time? Reaction times are well noted by physiologists: Your Tactile Response (touch) is 1/10 second Auditory Response (sound) is 1/15 second Visual Response (sight) is 1/4 of a second. So you crouch down at the doorway and stick just your head in and do a "quick look" into the room in one direction only and immediately move back away from the doorway. Regardless if an assailant is left or right they will open up on the doorway. It's pre-programmed into their brain, as they wait to ambush you, to engage when they see any "threat" in the doorway. I train LE and the military in weapons and small unit tactics. We have used this technique successfully over and over with Air Soft and Simunitions. Positioning someone as a threat in either corner and FOREWARNING them that an entry is about to happen does not deter them. They still open up when the Team Leader pokes his head in the doorway and retracts it quickly. The difference is by the time the assailant reacts and brings HIS weapon to bear, the Team Leader is back out of harms way.
@Mike-gt8en12 күн бұрын
@@JBliehallwell said. I think both of you are correct. Everytime I entered a room, in simunition training, I’d get lit up. You take the angles for info, do a flash check and make a dynamic entry. Fortunately never got shot it reality after clearing thousands of rooms over 3 decades.

Maybe talk about Advantages and disadvantages of the two. I also have an article I wrote on low light tactics I would like to send you for review if possible?
@EddieLeal2 жыл бұрын
Hello Robert. First and foremost, thank you for having stepped up to do such a dangerous job for your community. A retirement well earned I'm sure. I'm retired military and supporter of LE . I have a concern which I hope you can clear up for me. As of late, I have noticed an upward trend of LOD deaths involving ambush during disturbance/domestic calls/serving warrants. Most recently the tragic LOD death of Deputy Sheriff William Petry of the Floyd County Sheriff's Office, Kentucky as well as Capt Ralph Frasure and Officer Jacob Chaffins, both of the Prestonsburg Police Dept. Even a K-9 by then name of Drago was killed in this encounter. All shot and killed in the same incident. If you wouldn't mind sharing, what do you feel are the biggest dangers officers face as well as any fatal errors officers make during these types of encounters. Is there anything you may have noticed in the incidents you have reviewed that raise any red flags/concerns about the type of training LEOs are receiving or lack there of? Tactics being used or not used? Your reply would be greatly appreciated Robert. Thank you.

It's so very true. It's just not there nowadays. Most Agencies so short staffed nowadays, guys are mandated to work 56-70 hour weeks. It's insane, guys are exhausted and lives are being lost. Retirements or resignations are at a all time high. Officers are so scared to do their jobs anymore, they are worried about making a mistake, as a result being brought up on charges by the Bureaucrats! Officers hesitating to Police the way they were taught and trained, or through all the experience they gained through their careers has came to almost a complete halt. This is exactly why so many LEOs are being killed. Its sad, the politicians are now running Law Enforcement..

This is really good stuff for those watching but have never done this before. I was a LEO for 16 years with most of my career in a urban county in Georgia, we had a really good training division. I have attended SWAT schools which were awesome for tactics. At one point in my career I was clearing 2-5 houses a day because of the foreclosure from the housing collapse and people breaking into them. Get used to moving the gun in and out from your body, you will need that skill. If you are wearing body armor keep your front square to the threat so if bad guy shoots the armor catches it, is no armor get used to turning your body to make for a thinner smaller target. Good stuff with this video, I am going to share it with a buddy who still teaches tactics and firearms for a small department.

The butthole was a special forces instructor who told me to never walk backwards. The reasoning behind it was that you cannot see what is behind you and you run the risk of tripping (Lots of debris in a combat area) or as he put it "putting your foot in a bucket" was the term that was used. Alot has changed, the way it "was" done is not the way it "is" done. The grip on the weapon with pistols, and the way you acquire the natural point of aim. CQB and room clearing has become more refined and better ways of doing things have been adapted. Watching you're videos has improved my "game" even though I have not been in it for a while now. Is anybody from the Seals going to call you to fill in after watching a KZbin video? No. Of course not. But, you can reasonably practice these techniques with a training pistol. Practice your accuracy at the range, and then take some private courses to work on some techniques. These are the kinds of things that could save you and/or your loved ones: Situational awareness.
