Just a little background for y’all… they were not SWAT but they were gang unit, which is why they decided to even enter in the first place. I think had it not been the gang unit they would have called SWAT. To their credit, for guys that aren’t SWAT or specially trained in CQB, they did a god job clearing until that last room. You can tell they’ve worked together in an operational environment like this before. If I remember correctly, the officer and the perp both survived. No matter if I’m right or wrong or they are right or wrong that’s how I see it. Depending on the length of sobriety there in that room or more importantly the possible lack of sobriety in that room that too plays a part in the slow actions and reactions of those in the room. No matter what, I’m seeking shelter if I can’t get out of that room or getting out of the room altogether. Thanks for these videos. I learn a lot. Much respect.

I was a LEO for 13 years. Shot at 2 times. Hundreds of incidents where i was in CQB warrants/search executions. I can name less than 2 hands the times i used a shield. 1) limited resources 2) limited man power (Both effect each other) 1) there was 1 shield available to the whole department. It stayed at the office. Un-practical to put an incident on hold for ???? mins to get a shield and leave a brother at a situation by himself. 2) we ran 4 deputies for a shift. Most warrant arrest situations you were lucky to have 1-3man team 1 man with rifle, the other to guy(s) hands on Most fugitives are runners before they are shooters… shields are heavy, awkward, bulky, site restrictive( all things you said) Deputy sheriffs have 100’s of guys squirt on them with very few ever shot at. They sure aren’t gonna catch a guy with a shield. Thats why you dont see them. To call a swat team meant something real bad had already happened. Most every high risk warrant i assisted US marshall teams with…. They hold their ground with a shield and call the dirt bag out to them. Its ideal. Dope warrants and Hostage rescue you cant do that with. You gotta go. Thanks for all your analysis. You are spot on
@ryean1_aus2 жыл бұрын
Don't you run any shield in the trunk or response vehicle?

YES. It drives me bat shit crazy when four cops stand 20 feet away from someone they just ventilated and just yell "show me your hands" over and over and over again. One of two things eventually happens. A squared-away supervisor or other fellow officer shows up and starts leading, as you said; or someone, sometimes a supervisor, says "we need to wait for more officers before we can move in and go code 4." Finally they get a cadre of like 9 officers and they all move up in a phalanx to secure the suspect. Usually, all you should need to secure a suspect (especially one you've shot a dozen times) is two officers. Three is better, but beyond that, you start having diminishing returns.

Mike speaks the truth. And it's not like what he's saying are super secret tactics. We trained a lot of the same things in the Army and I was never a Tier I guy...just a grunt. Always try for alternative breach points. Never verbally communicate intent, always mirror the guy in front of you (thus doing the opposite cos a mirror is backwards). The problem is that there's a lot of half-trained cops running around thinking they are operators because they did a few lessons on CQB/CQM. I've seen a lot of these in my area. Young guys that barely pass their qualification, but are quick to whip out the tactical rifle they bought for $4000. The same rifle that's dripping with high tech gadgets...all while the officer cam barely hit targets normally. Shit drives me crazy. I spent most of my time in the military and contracting working with a normal service rifle (M4 or AK), often with iron sights or a simple red dot. Nothing fancy, but what I learned as a private was that it's not gadgets, but marksmanship that counts.
