as a 41 year A&P, 21 years in military aviation, and DOM for a 121 airline I agree to a extent. They are not all the same when the work starts, some are better then others and some need to find another employer and or field to work in ..

On first reading I had a few issues with Force Design 2030. On second reading I see the brilliance of it. The Corps needs FD2030. It takes the Corps back to its core mission and away from being an adjunct army formation that it became after the first Gulf War. The reduction of heavy lift I think is an error, as excess heavy lift can make up for a reduction in medium lift (think a large grounding of MV-22s) whereas it doesn’t work the other way around. MPs, Abrams, tube artillery, these reductions and eliminations make great sense when it comes to jumping around the Pacific or the Fjords of Scandinavia. If you haven’t read FD2030, do so.

Very inspirational episode. I am a Training Coordinator for a large company preparing a class for a group of new managers. The segment of the Top Gun Instructor Murder Board really made me want to really knock it out of the park. This was excellent Jello. Some of the lessons that General "Homey" mentioned are immensely applicable in so many different disciples away from the military, particularly around planning, etc, and I even recognised some of the decision making processes being described as those used in the corporate Business and Enterprise Architecture domains. No surprises that DODAF was the foundation for a lot of that work.

Fantastic interview gentlemen. I left the after 23 air wing years. Unfortunately I didn’t walk out as my older brothers had. I flew the left seat on a C-130 and I have to say that I miss flying, much like a guy would miss best girl. What sucks for me is that I could have excepted my accident if had happened in the left seat of a C-130 instead of being ran over by a 18 wheeler while going for some hotdog buns. I hate having lost my seat this way, but as I’ve told my PT nurse.. I may have lost my command in the Corps, but I’m in a new branch (the Home Branch) which it seems to be to lead a smaller command. If my PT Lead says climb the rope ladder to the fourth rut I move to the 6th. I do this to challenge myself and my kids that this now 68 year old can still move and in some cases I can still lead. I n ending I want to say God bless the Marine Corps, God bless you gentlemen, our families, and the United States. I’d love to come out to Pendleton and visit the General someday. Again thank you guys for all you do.

Per the current HQMC aviation plan there will be four total VMFA FMF F-35C squadrons - plus a FRS - only two of which will be assigned to CVWs as required by the TACAIR integration plan.

Imagine a LHD or LHA can launch 5-6 F-35s stealth jets and conduct combat air patrol or strikes behind enemy lines. Having F-35B is really a boost for a ship with no CATOBAR and wire for tak5off and landing respectfully.

Semper Fidelis, air wingers! There is an old sea story about the AV-8A Harrier, which had a nose probe. Supposedly, on a deployment somewhere aboard ship, a Marine air winger told a Marine grunt that the nose probe was a bayonet mount, so that the pilot could physically assault the enemy even if he was out of ammo. I'm trying to picture how crazy, funny, and awesome that would look on film, like a scene from Hot Shots.
