I came to see cameras , but was blown away by the passion and fun you had for your review. I really thought you would land on the 6400 but it seems like the ZV-E10 is a real charmer and preformed better than i expected. I am more into films than pictures. I only wished it was more weather resistant. It rains alot where i live and i am hoping to do some outdoors filming as well as indoors. Maybe the zv-e10 combined with a gopro 8 or 10 would be a great combo. One for indoor and one for outdoors.

Great comparison. The color science on the ZV E10 looks more saturated to me and the 6400 looks softer. The mic sounded better on the 6400 but only by a little. Stabilization sucks on both lol. The ZV E10 is under the Christmas tree for the wife 🤫

yes, they both sucks. but at least ZV-e10 has better image stabilization when recording without any camera movement, and also it does better when doing a slow ninjawalk than A6400

I have both cameras. One thing that made me keep the a6400 is weather sealing. My ZV-E10 is my main indoor/great outdoor weather camera with having gyrodata without a gimbal. The a6400 is the go to all around no matter the environment especially for photography having the EVF. the ZV-E10s screen color can fool you into thinking that its the color coming out of the camera sometimes. Both are great and have their uses. Edit: I traded the 6400 for the 6700 but same rules apply.

@@basharatali9946either way you would be fine honestly. Both have picture profiles that you can use to shoot in HLG and SLog and color grade to your liking. Intelligent Auto is pretty good too if you don’t want to color grade and just go straight out of camera.

Great video, you just answered a ton of questions I’ve been asking myself. I got the ZV-E10 as my first Sony camera. And the thing you mentioned about no viewfinder really hurts me doing photography on the ZV-E10 and I’ve been eyeing the A6400 now as well to have both of them in my kit. But the eye focus on video for the ZV-E10 is a must have. Wish Sony would update that feature to the A6400 too. Your video totally answers all of my questions about adding the A6400.

You did a really great job! I have an a6400 and I also have a Sony FDR-AX53. The AX53 has a similar mic setup to the ZV-E10. What people will not realize is that both have really good sound. That does not mean that they sound the same. The AX53/ZV-E10 is more directional, "lacks middle", and thus is superior for recording spoken voice with great clarity. In other words, you can understand what people are saying. The a6400 is essentially "mildly cardiod" and has more "mid" which gives more natural sounding recordings, and is great for live music performance recording, especially at outdoor concerts with PAs. Depending on taste, you do not "need" to put a mic on top of either camera for vlogging. The ZV-E10 really needs an add-on mic for music recording. There are a "couple" of Picture Profile mods around that I like on the a6400, which tend towards "Arri" and "Red" looks. They should work on the ZV-E10 as well.

@@thefilmalliance As I mentioned, I have the Sony a6400 and the Sony FDR-AX53 4K camcorder. I also have a Panasonic Lumix G85. I also use a Shure VP83F one piece "mic / preamp / recorder". I can use the VP83F on any of the three cameras, or free-standing on a tripod, for consistent sound.

The A6400 is the winner here, the only downside with the camera is no in body stabilization witch hurts as a vloger with Sigma 16mm.

@@thefilmalliance Heh! That's a bit of a story. I had settled on the Sony ZV-E10...continued researching and changed my mind and settled on the Canon EOS R7. Then I started hunting for lenses... smh... After this nonsense with the RF mount and third party lense makers... I have switched back to Sony, but am now considering either the a7 III or the a7 IV. I want something that is generally good at everything...which the R7 was a perfect fit. I know I need a decent camera...but at the same time...the glass MUST be good, or it's a waste of time and money.

a6400 colors are a bit more muted and natural looking, which I like. But ZV-E10 is easier to use and has some nice features. It is a more affordable, and better entry camera.

However, I have noticed that the battery life is quite disappointing, and it cannot record for more than 30 minutes. They look comparable. zve10 have little punchier colors. But colors aren't something that should make you choose one over another camera in my opinion. But i actually think that this zv e10 could have some really big potential. I wish Sony makes pro version of this. With weather sealing, sensor shift and detachable EVF maybe. Would be also nice to see new sensor in those. Either 8k or really good 4k sensor like in a7s3 just apsc.

no gimbal needed for zv-e10 just turn all stablization off in camera and use catalyst browse i usually settle for around a 10% crop and you get gimbal like footage without the need to haul around a gimbal.

Apparently the stabilisation works fine for vlogging on the zv e10 without a massive zoom in, but you can only shoot 720p, internally it must take 1080p and use the cropped part as a buffer.

The ultimate goal is to get a FX30 by June, so I was just looking to see if it be worth it to get a second camera in the interim. Think I'm just going to wait on the FX30.

I like everything about the A6400's picture, color, light balance, and audio quality more than the ZV-E10, but the display, the headphone out, and (although not shown in this video) the autofocus of the ZV-E10 is awesome. The image stabilization on the ZV is garbage. It's weird that the image quality is so different between the two cameras, especially since they have the same sensor. I guess that's down to the ZV's "color science", which to my eyes is less pleasing than the A6400. Great video!

My first time here a little bit too late but I just wanna buy a new camera, more towards videography but still wanna use for my macro photography, I’m a nikon user not because I hate nikon now but they don’t have a quick focusing censored for video and also on budget, it means if I have money I will straight away choose a7iii or IV or even fx30 BUT again on a budget, so seeing your video is just like fresh of air cause really a bunch of videos but lack info and review, and you put it together in such a wonderful way, and make me one step closer to buy sony, and maybe I will buy a6400 because of weather resistant, metal material so more durable, and the way it looks I mean I saw the buttons on zv e10 it looks like someone paint it and the switch it is just like a toy to me, the down side with a6400 it will be the screen but that’s what you get when you buy an old camera, and unfortunately for zv e10 still don’t have ibis system, no viewfinder come on sony don’t be so stingy 😂

First time here. I loved your video, really fun, while explaining all the setup better than anyone else; I can follow along better than ever. Regarding the cameras, the dynamic range from the ZV-E10 video footage in the low light test (5:14) looked terrible to me, the colours and the exposure are completely unacceptable, like worse than a modern phone; while the footage from the A6400 was totally acceptable, though still not even close to the quality of the full frame main camera you used for the video, but definitely usable. I watched the video on my brand new 4k 28" 144Hz IPS monitor, and also on my 4k 32" VA monitor, so I'm quite sure about these image quality observations. And the vlogging test (13:09), aside from bad dynamic range, it also shows excessive sharpening.

I got a Sony A7iii last year and it’s a versatile camera for literally everything I do. However it’s a bit bulky and I wanted something light that I could carry in my pocket. I was planning to get a A6400 but I picked up a ZVE10 instead and I fell in love with the camera

Hi, loving all the content you are making on ZV e10. I am a beginner photographer. Would mostly do photography and some videography/vloging as well. 1. Wanted to know if not having an evf really a big deal? 2. Is LCD screen on Z V e-10 good enough to see in bright sunlight? Also how is the overall quality of screen? 3. How is the screen quality compared to a6400? 4. How different is the rolling shutter compared to a6400 since both use the same sensor and processor? I haven't used any camera before, just the phone. So not sure how much I'll need the evf. But saw many posts of not having evf sucks !! hence the question. Sorry for the long question. But couldn't find better way to put it. (English not being the first language)

One thing I didn't notice before. You said there was color differences between the a6400 and ZV-E10. I think you might have gotten some info wrong there. The updated came in the a6400. The camera before that was the a6300, and that is the camera which the a6400 improved upon. The output of the ZV-E10 in this video generally looks the same as the a6400, and assuming you made no changes in post, then that is what I would expect. But if you see the older a6300 or original a6000, then I would avoid those due to the color matching issues. In theory, the a6100 might match well with the a6400, because it part of the same series of updates as the a6400, but at this point, used a6400's are probably a better way to go.

How come you never mentioned the Gyro Data stabilization available in the ZV? This give gimbal like smoothness in post and does not crop in like active stabilization. The ZV E10 records gyro data: x,y,z axis and it stabilizes footage using that data in Sonys free program Catalyst Browse. This is a GAME changer when comparing the ZV vs A6xxx line. The ZV gyro stabilization is superior than a6600 with OSS + IBIS

@@thefilmalliance Hi, i picked up the Sony a6400 with the 16-50 kit lens. Just tinkering quickly with it and wow. It's way faster than the Canon M50 ( I realize it's double the money at 1350 CAD and the M50 was 699 CAD) This is just very first impressions, right out of the box. I turn it on (after setting time and stuff) and in a second I took my first photo. Wow. The focus is super quick and precise. The view finder is brighter and clearer. I used to think the M50 was great compared to my entry level Nikon D3400. I think I made a great choice going with the Sony A6400 as a step up from the Canon M50. I am still learning the Sony and will keep you posted. Thanks again for your great channel and reviews.
