If I am in Tamilnadu I will try my level best to learn Tamil so that I can communicate with local people and socialize. Hypocrisy is when you do not speak a language inspite of knowing but you speak in english as if your grandfather was a British. FYI, I am not a hindi speaking person but if I know hindi and the person with whom I am speaking with can only speak hindi I would not think twice to speak in hindi. Stop being fool n understand whether hindi is getting imposed on somebody or people are speaking that language because of the reason that it is an extremely easy language to learn n majority of this country can speak that. I don't support imposition but isn't it strange that except south india nowhere in India people has a problem with hindi. We all hv our own languages like bangla, marathi, punjabi, oriya, assamese and so on but only south india especially tamilnadu has a problem with hindi ? I do not like this over the top diplomacy of A R Rahman... its his wife who once disclosed n described him as a father of diplomacy... if he has a weakness about south india n south indian culture its perfectly fine..... one does not need to be this cautious...diplomatic... however, having said that, i hv observed n found out many times that he is kind of lil inclined towards talking about all the goody things about south (which is not the case always) n makes us feel that the north indian film industry is perhaps not that good and don't follow a simple way of life (as he described). First he is an Indian and not a south/north indian and he should also understand that people irrespective of their origin (sounth and north india) are his fans....
