Is It Worth Upgrading to Simplify3D Version 5?

Actually, they WERE availible in free slicers before S3D v5..

I've been using s3d for years, and I've had to add post processing to adjust accelerations for the the 1st layer. Then I find that SuperSlicer does acceleration adjustments right in the slicer and for different features. With high speed printers some plastics need a bit of fine tuning when higher accelerations are possible, even with resonance compensation. Bambu Studio has it super dialed in the X1c profiles. Then after waiting for years and S3d support still says acceleration adjustments can only be done via scripting. Swing and a miss. Its not about the money for me, it's trust. I hear about multiple bugs in v5, and I have zero trust that they will fix them in a timely fashion, or that they will do as they told me in the email response that the powerful scripting engine they wrote from ground up can allow them to add acceleration customizations easily to the UI -- I'll believe it when I see it. From what it looks like V5 is DOA. They didn't do anything revolutionary, they didn't even catch up to feature parity with free slicers. I have 2 V4 licenses, but will be porting my configs for my machines to super slicer. If they release a v5.1, with bug fixes, I'll think about it.

That was the best video regarding Simplify3D V5 I've seen so far on KZbin... discussed some great improvements to the software and didn't negatively focus on the price. I upgraded for my two MakerGear M3s... plus I'm a geek. Great video Richard!

Disagree. There is a better video on KZbin. It show more info plus it did some exemples of prints with S3D and other software. But on the other hand 200 not for me. I use PrusaSlicer and I will stay with that.

@@JBCool0729 I am sorry to hear that, however, there is only so much I can fit into a 9-minute video. There are more videos coming that will focus on comparing these features and others with the most popular slicers like Prusa & Cura slicers with print examples. I hope that you will watch those when they are released.

Does it have any top layer patterns, like hilbert curve type of thing for example in prusa slicer ?

I can understand upgrades and that they may be more complexed than others, but why having paid for upgrades when i bought S3D, do i have to pay for upgrade 5?

We paid for v4 and all the upgrades to that version. 5 is a new version. Though I agree for the price paid It'd be nice if v5 was included especially considering the limited updates to v4. It really looked like it was abandonware there for a few years as the last update to 4 was in early 2019. With today's slicers there's no way I'd pay $200 even if printed commercially as I don't see that it brings anything unique to the table. Still not sure it's even worth the $70 upgrade these days.

@@fourierrocket I would suggest you update your slicer to the latest version. If you are using a version of Cura update it.

In short. Too little. Too late. Cura and Prusa are developed faster and not to mention they are free.

latest yes, greatest not so much, much of this has been in free slicers for a free years, S3d their moment but now they are just ripping people off, as for regular updates like the other slicers? not a chance.

Overpriced and not worth the price. Prusa Slicer and Cura are both way better value and much better maintained.

Fair enough, S3D didn't give me this version I paid for mine. It gives me the opportunity to run it head to head with Prusa and Cura slicers in upcoming videos.
