Kevlar kite string makes amazing assist cord especially for big pelagic spiecies and cost so much less.

I've used those...they are quite thick, most are twisted more than braided, they are also solid, so they can't be used for slow jigging. Used to use a lot of these for fast jigging around the early 2000s because they were easier to find and more available than proper cords. Assist cords are so cheap these days.

@TheFishingKit like I said for big pelagics it's worked for me and they do make a hollow that i splice. But you have probably forgotten more about jigging than I know , I am a novice in that regard of fishing for sure. Keep up the vids. I'd love to learn more.

@@IcatchTuna I used to use hollow kevlar from Sufix, I think they still have it around, but it frays so fast...most def not kiteline. Iff it works for you, then go ahead and use it, just not my thing after seeing easier and better material. Aliexpress sells a lot of cheap cords for assist hooks, should you want to try more cost effective alternatives.

BKK is a great hollow core in 150 lb & 240 I believe. I like the 150 for a very limber cord even when spliced through itself then of course for toothy fish or just higher strength the 240 lb test. Tried others but BKK seems readily available & really high quality. Just got my uv threads in hot pink chartreuse & red for a little bling (& for homemade sabikis).

Hey! Thanks for sharing this. I have a question. My line is rated at 300lbs, removing the course reduces the rating, how do I know what’s the rating without the cord?
@TheFishingKit
@TheFishingKit Жыл бұрын
what is the size of your fishing line?
@ynellirosas
@ynellirosas Жыл бұрын
@@TheFishingKit my assist line is rated for 300, but it’s corded, so if I remove the cord how much of that 300 am I losing, I have 100 braid, to mono, sometimes it’s 80 sometimes it’s 130 😂 depending the day
@TheFishingKit
@TheFishingKit Жыл бұрын
@@ynellirosas I understand your question, I was asking what the strength of your braided fishing line is. If you have 80 to 130, the assist cord would still be far stronger, even if you took off the core. Typically, what's placed inside as a core is there to keep the shape. you don't lose a lot in terms of strength. The core is basically put in to keep the cords from going flat. Your braid is very thick, but if it works for you, then great.
@ynellirosas

@@TheFishingKit ohhh. Got it. Thank you. I was not sure how the over all strength was affected. Thanks for clearing that up.

Thanks for the info! I am still confused on what you said regarding the sizing of hooks and cords. Did you mean a 50lb rated hook should go with a 50lb rated cord? That seems very thin to me.
@TheFishingKit
@TheFishingKit Жыл бұрын
Max, this is part of a series I do on assist hooks. If you watch my assist hook making videos, I talk about what size I use for what hooks and why. As you can see in the title, it talks about WHY you need to use the proper assist cords as opposed to cords you find that are not really meant for use for making assist hooks - like climbing cords, or speag gun cords, etc. The info on how to choose the right size for what hook would be in one of the videos where I use them on actual hooks.

Great job man 💪💪 I have a question, can varivas avani ss #60 be used for a needle system?For example, by pulling the core out, and then pulling the end of the line with the needle...

Thank you so much, I tried with a couple of types of dyneema line, and it was just impossible..It’s really hard for me to find an assist line that’s easily accessible, that it can get through it self... And thanx for so fast replay 😎😎😎

Hello man, i ve a ton of your tutorial videos... and i still have daught on right hook to choose. not sure if i can post links here, but there are pike style in diferents diameters, and other hook type... as im learning to make my assists. and im used to fish from microjigs (5grams) to realy heavy slow jigs like 500g and a lot of shore jigging whit a range from 30 to 200g ... i tend to use them almost the same the only diference i do is the way hook points ( insine slow outside fast jig) and strong hook for heavy fast jigs, but i still cant figure out the best option...
@TheFishingKit
@TheFishingKit 2 жыл бұрын
heavy wired hooks tend to be more for fast jigging, while light wired hooks are for slow jigging. you can start there.

for 7-15g, you can use 10-15lb, 20-40 you can use up to 20/25, 30-lb for 40-60 but this depends on where you are fishing and what fish you want to catch.
