Very cool too see the team work in this. He driver fights the fish as much as the angler and the spotter. Super cool

Yep the angler really is just there to retrieve slack line, the skipper and the deckhand are far more pivotal to actually catching the fish

Bloody awesome Matt, I'm going to chase swordfish on Saturday. This has me keen as it's one of two Pacific billfish species I've got left to get boatside

I have to ask Matt, are swords wearing enough on 500lb leader that you can crack it one handed? If so, would you recommend using fluorocarbon to avoid that issue since mono has only a hard coating on it and fluorocarbon is hardened all the way through? I'm impressed you can still crack it regardless, I have cracked 300lb before and felt like my hand was going to break.

guys what did he poke the swordfish with and what does it do?
@UltimateFishingTV3 жыл бұрын
It's a research tag, location and size is recorded in a database so if the fish is ever recaptured migration and growth can be tracked.

Do you think guys that first swordfish will survive after surfaces from exhaustion? See it swimming upside down while getting down to the bottom, I see many videos showing dead Marlins and Swordfish floating in the sea elsewhere after the tag and release fishing tournament have done those. So what they did was just playing around and wasting the big fish at the same time!
@fisherman78343 жыл бұрын
depends.. here we pull the fish upright at a few knots and revive it, getting water in its gills, letting go of if only when it is strong enough.. as the fish starts to get deeper and the air starts to compress, it will get upright usually.. They can see by the tag if it made it, and if not, change their release techniques
@UltimateFishingTV3 жыл бұрын
Yes that fish would have survived. If you watch the video closely you will see that once the fish is down 10m or one atmosphere, it rights itself and swims away. If the fish was not fit for release the call would have been made to keep it. Here is a link to another swordfish video where the fish was not fit to be released. www.ultimatefishing.tv/home/video/489/shaw%27s-swordfish

@@UltimateFishingTV I watch the video on your link and to be honest with you I enjoyed watching it, yea you've done the right decision of not letting it go, it'll surely die and will end up in the big shark's mouth, or rot in the surface of the sea. Hopefully, if a thing such as that happens again in your future adventure better have it take home than letting the fish go then in a few hours will die. Keep safe folks!

Should be banned your literally murdering it slowly after 17 hour's of hard labor the fish is so exhausted and blown out they don't make it back down I'm a pretty keen hearty angler myself but il never have any desire in catching swords or Marlin no hate just a shower thought lol I love Matt Watson he's definitely the Man!

He's pretty good with his guesses, his son's first fish he guessed at 200-210kg and it went 212kg.
