If this suggestion wasn't already mentioned, when possible, remove the old screen first and use it as a template, placing it over the new screen. Then cut around the old screen with a straight edge and adding 1 to 2" width. This saves time, especially when dealing with angled or odd cuts. Great video! I just Amazon ordered the clips which should come in very handy,

Well done. I thought your video was the best that I've seen. I will now take your install and organization tips to my pool screen project. One concern: Some videos say start at one corner and work the entire perimeter in same direction. Others say to minimize wrinkles do the top first, then do the bottom, then left/right. Comments?

You can also just use the old spline in separate pieces in place of those clips, they pop off too easily anyway.Leave slack at your starting point of spline so you can pull it out if necessary, nothing wrong with pulling it out and re-splining it to pull that last section nice and tight. Another great tip is to place your screen with the bended ends outward from the frame (it will be curved from being rolled up-crescent in, not out) this will help ensure a tight fit.

Used your video to replace patio screens. Works great! Suggest one more tip - I stretched the spline before pushing spline into channel. Much easier after it is stretched. Also, my patio had flat spline on top of opening, and round spline around the remaining screen on the same opening. Also, inserted the edge of flat spline into the bottom of the groove by hand, about a 5-inch section, and used the wheel to pressure the top of spline and it seems to pop right into the channel. Thanks for your video, I worked alone, and the screen clips saved the day! Thanks!!!

What size spline did you use?
@richardduvigneaud32922 жыл бұрын
@@jaisangellight For round 0.210 and flat match it up with flat at Home Depot. I found getting the flat into the channel at the lower edge then using roller to pop into channel takes a bit of practice. The round I started using wheel after stretching the spline a bit before inserting it into channel. Both the flat and round you can match size take a small piece to store with you.

@@thefiXfiles Done! I had to wait a couple days for the screen clips to come in from Amazon, can't BELIEVE neither my Home Depot or Lowes carries those in-store! Those, along with your pointers about using the tool to pre-set the screen in the groove made it an easy do-it-myself fix! Honestly, the ONLY difference I can tell from the panel next to the one I repaired myself, which my (now former) Screen Guy did, is his brand of spline does have a nicer sheen than the Home Depot spline I used. I posted before-and-after pics of the repair on my FB page, and I linked your video in my post. Again, much thanks!

Had to fix ANOTHER panel today, and I was having trouble getting the spline to set properly. I'm getting on in years (almost 60 yrs old), and don't have the hand or arm strength I used to have in my younger days. Came up with the idea to get a spray bottle filled with just water, and just "mist" sprayed the channel, spline, and screen before working the spline in, and I found it much easier, the water worked as a lubricant to get the spline to squeeze/roll into place properly. Worked for me. Hope this tip can help others

In watching your video, which, by the way, is very helpful, I noticed two references regarding the use of the tool. I am a bit confused, when do I use convex and when do I use concave? Thank you again.

Great video and thanks for the tips and information on the materials and tools! Just to give you all an idea, my lanai is a typical 10' x 15' and has six panels totaling 225 sq ft of screened area. The local contractors here in Northeast Florida want $2.50 per sq ft, almost $600 to replace the screen mesh. Not bashing them, but I think I'll do it myself and save at least $400 in the process. Just returned from HD and bought the screen mesh, spline, and roller for $135 and I will order the clip from Amazon for another $12. I am handy and pretty sure I can handle this job. Conquering my laziness is another story. Great instructional video and cute doggie you got there.
@thefiXfiles3 жыл бұрын
Holy cow $2.50 per sq ft is crazy. That’s how much contractors normally charge to install tile. Crazy. Yeah man save the money. And I hear you on conquering laziness. If I ever figure out how to solve that for myself I’ll make a video of that too but not holding my breath lol.

Thank you for this video. It was very helpful. There are several videos on you tube that are very helpful. The only thing missing is information on purchasing the correct size spline. There are several thicknesses of flat spline available. I have purchased spline from Home Depot and Lowes and they are not very specific about the size. They seem to sell .315" which is almost impossible to use with the aluminum tracks in my pool screen. I was able to get the .285" (which for reasons unknown they call quarter inch??) It was much easier to install but I'm not sure if it's the correct size. It would be very helpful if you can update the video with detail about choosing the correct size spline
