I'd like to imagine it's connected to how the Gem's haven't had a reason to fight or train for the last few years, so they let their skills get rusty. Complacency. Against someone like Jasper, who's constantly fighting, training, honing her skills, and who's a veteran of the Gem war, I think she might have more trouble. And against one of the Diamonds, well that's just not fair at that point.

@@elijahmccain6973 I haven't really seen, learned, or heard of them dealing with a gem, Corrupted or not, with powers of elasticity. Most, if not all, of the gems they have dealt with had been solid, big, and/or quick. Spinel can, quite literally, adjust her physical form to limits even Amethyst and Garnet couldn't reach. They can't treat her like the other gems that they have dealt with, since it's not straightforward. This was proven with the puffer fish gem, as well as the stealth gem. Combined with the fact that she used it to increase her speed, and strength, along with the fact that, as it does infact factor, the gems have let their skills dull since they believed that their was no more reason to keep fighting. Their biggest reasons for fighting were capturing corrupted gems and homeworld. Now that both were finally dealt with, they believed they didn't need to keep up anymore. They've spent all those years fighting endlessly to try and capture their fallen fellow gems. After they finally get a break, they let their guard down, so that they can finally live that free life that they gave to so many others. And don't you tell me that they could honestly prepare for a gem to blitz them immediately upon entry to the planet with a huge drill and a Rejuvenator of all things. Not even Garnet would have expected that. After spending several years not maintaining that routine of fighting and training, anyone's skills would dull after so long of inactivity.

I think that it would’ve been appropriate to give spinel green lantern powers (or anything similar to that, power to make anything out of colored energy) because of how she’s cartoony, something REALLY cartoony is getting anything out of nowhere.
