Thanks for the comment. Maybe we could arrange Greek subtitles too.! A lot of people comment on the expense of pistachios but the movie explains the long processing pathway to produce good nuts. I love pistachio trees so much because they will send their roots so deep (30metres) to get water and because they try so hard to give you a crop even in terribly dry miserable seasons cheers Graham

he Planting Site Although pistachios accept infertile, rocky or even salty soil, they produce most heavily in deep, well-draining sandy loam. For the healthiest trees, aim for slightly alkaline soil with a pH in the 7.1 to 7.8 range. The best site also has little or no shade. Planting Pistachios Plant 1-year-old pistachio trees in January or February. Dig holes deep enough to contain their roots without bending. Allow 15 to 18 feet between individual trees and 20 to 22 feet between orchard rows. Water thoroughly after planting. Expert gardener’s tip: Always plant compatible cultivars. Good pairings include female ‘Kerman’ with male ‘Peters’ pistachios and male ‘Randy’ with female ‘Golden Hills.’

I was reading your comment and I said to myself "she's so right, they are amazing" and then unconsciously went for a pistachio (because I was already eating it) I cracked it open bringing it to my mouth to only notice a worm inside. I threw it at my desk fast as fck because I panicked. The thought process of me previously eating half the bag didnt help either. heart dropped lol. #badpistachioexperience

Hi Ahmet The names you use- 'fistik' means 'babe' or 'sweetie' in English and antep fistigi means nut from Gaziantep. I went through Gaziantep in 1975 but never ate any of the pistachios there. I would love to make $20000 per tree from our pistachios (even $2000). Interestingly the type of pistachio trees we grow originally come from Aleppo, just down the road from Gaziantep! cheers graham

Yes I think you are right. Then the nuts spread through the Mediterranean area and split up/ interbred with other pistachio species to create to the smaller but sweet, red Syrian nuts and the spicy Sicilian nuts with almost no splits. It is interesting that the Sicilians are able to export their nuts to Germany for a terrific price and they import Greek pistachios to snack on ! cheers graham
