He never shouts at the dogs.....the sound is added on later, he just mimes the words when the dog is there. The dogs all adore him.

It's funny that so many people compare and contrast Dr. House and Doc Martin, but I remember being in the hospital with my desperately sick child and hoping that a "Dr. House"-type doctor didn't exist in real life and certainly NOT in our hospital, but I actually love Doc Martin and would choose him FAR over Dr. House. I don't know why. IRL, Martin Clunes and Hugh Laurie are BOTH polar opposites from their characters, but Clunes has the advantage of being Kipper the Dog in my daughter's eyes. ;)

I began to really understand Doc Martin second and third time around, his very sad childhood. The very eccentric characters around town were over done. Did not care for Louisa, Bert Large or his first aunt but liked his second aunt. But Lucy Punch's character was appalling, I probably would have slapped her.
