Hello all,
in this (neverending*) video, I explain how a nuclear plant works. If you are clueless about physics, this is for you. From concepts like nuclear fission or radioactivity to the design of a reactor and explanations of what happened in disasters like Tchernobyl and Fukushima, I hope you will be able to discover plenty of new things.
* I challenge you to listen to it entirely without falling asleep or dying from boredom.

Chernobyl *RE* enters the cultural zeitgeist. People were highly aware of it back when it happened. The fact that most people forgot about Chernobyl after the fact goes to show that even a nuclear reactor meltdown isn't the world-ending disaster some people imagine it to be.

Ankarus Thane What are you getting at? You just made it seem like i don't consider some people "true" Americans. My opinion on that is if you have citizenship, you're American. And i don't see why that would even matter, Americans aren't superior to anyone else simply because they're American. That goes for any nationality.
@Circenn
@Circenn 9 жыл бұрын
Byron Henry You misunderstood. I was merely trying to state, with all the people of Spanish descent, French descent, Italian descent, etc. it will make no difference where a person resides concerning America. You asked what part I am from. I was telling you that's irrelevant no matter whom it concerns.

Then I research on the topic, which can require a few hours or little time depending on how well I know it. Thank you for the information. I only wish you would have talked more about the new nuclear power plants and the fact that they can be used to recycle nuclear waste. To me (with my very limited understanding of this stuff) it almost seem more ethical to build new plants that can recycle the waste we have already gathered, instead of burying containers of waste and by that taking the risk of leaking waste for hundred or thousands of years to come. I don't know, what do you think?
@TheFrenchWhispererASMR
@TheFrenchWhispererASMR 9 жыл бұрын
lurifix I agree. Now, even though new plants are designed to minimize waste or recycle spent fuel from older reactors (and this is a good thing) I am not aware of projects that could produce 0 waste or could recycle the waste that was already burried. The number of nuclear plants in the world should also increase in the next few decades with developments in China, and this means that the quantity of waste produced is unlikely to decrease any time soon despite technological progress. With my limited knowledge of the matter, it seems to me that the future of energy production is more in alternative, clean sources of energy and (very long term) in the development of fusion reactors.
@ManInMostlyBlack
@ManInMostlyBlack 9 жыл бұрын
The French Whisperer We are pretty much on the same page then. I just don think that solar, wind and water powered solutions is going to be enough for the worlds energy needs. Even with all the energy efficiency that new technology will bring. As long as we are waiting for fusion powered reactors we don't have many options. Either slowly suffocate this earth by burning fossil fuels or take our chances with nuclear plants and the hopes that future technology will bring a solution to the waste issue. Thank you for the answer and a well made video.
@LemonLadyRecords
@LemonLadyRecords 4 жыл бұрын
@@ManInMostlyBlack I've subscribed to 100% wind or solar for all my electricity for years now and they never tell me that there is no more capacity (comes in from other states, too, as the need arises). :) Most people want to save .01/kwh, if even that, rather than switch, that I have spoken to (most think it is way more expensive than it is). I am retired and don't have much money to use on electricity, but feel this is one way to do a lot of good, plus I have a lot of "luxury" use (A/C 9mos of the year; seems like requirement for life, though :) ). If the demand was there, they would build it, as it's all $$$. The best is to put solar on your house, and there are good deals to do that. I think the narrative that solar, wind or other renewables won't be enough is just propaganda (many interesting methods are being developed). If all big office buildings, which get good sun plus could put wind on top, or those obnoxious lights (Las Vegas, Time's Square, Tokyo, ad nauseum) had solar on them, it would be a great start!

peachinelight generally it takes me 2-3 hours. A bit more for this one (like 4 hours) because it is longer and I had to figure out in which order to present things.
