In case no one has mentioned this already--Shocker was originally going to be called "The Vibrator," which is why there there are "V" designs integrated into his outfit. Thankfully someone pointed out how that name would not be good to use, but the costume was set.

That ending skit was great, we need more Robo on the porch. I get home after working having just found the Marvel Legends comic Doctor Strange, get the notification from Pulse that my Skrulls are arriving later today and there's a Fwoosh review, great way to round off the day. I agree about Shocker, as good as he is something is a bit off but I'm not sure what. I don't like the mismatched yellows, he does feel pretty light and there's a slight cheapness to it, I can't pinpoint my exact issue (actually I think it's all in the paint). I can't help but really like Hobgoblin though, I never found that last version and whilst he is a little overly bright, the new one still works great up on my Spider-Man villains shelf. I feel like the Goblin figures could maybe use new body sculpts, I never cared for the look of the scaled limbs that are a bit too modern for me and they need more articulation and better gliders.

Did the exact same thing to my Shocker. Same pen too. I tried grey first, didn't look right. Takes the figure up to 11 for me. While I wish Hasbro would have done this out the gate, I don't mind putting in a bit of work on a $25 figure.

I thought about gray but yeah, the brown blends better with the yellow. And really, neither do I, been touching up figures for almost 30 years, it's a big part of the hobby itself for me at this point.

great review and a perfect clean up tool for panel lining shocker is a q tip and some rubbing alcohol just a dab and it wipes away excess easy and dries quick

Wow! The crunch cut is So in your face in the lighter colored torsos. And I would prefer a ball joint under it instead of the swivel. I didn't watch the animated Spidey show either (cuz I was in my mid to late 20's) but they're pretty reminiscent of the late 70's early 80's comic looks.

I think I prefer the colors on the older Hobgoblin you showed off, but if I were looking to upgrade that Classic Hobgoblin, I'd probably swap the shoulders and legs from the old one... The simpler design makes sense for an animation homage, but the scaly armor detailing would just bump the classic figure over the edge for me

I had the old toybiz Hobgoblin from when I was a kid, however when I was a kid I lost the hood and the glider and I ripped the pumpkin bomb off of his hand so he was a very naked goblin. But then this new Hobgoblin came out and I took literally all of his removable accessories, ie cape, hood, satchel, glider, pumpkin bomb and put it on that old toybiz body and it looks damn good. The hood and cape are kind of bright for it but it works oddly enough and it's now one of my favorite pieces in my collection.

I don't mind the snazzy colours on Hobgoblin but they should've used the original goblin mould and given him a bigger glider. Shocker looks great apart from the lack of detail lines on the quilting. I'm surprised he's shorter than Hobby.

Those paint pens take a little while to fully set, so hopefully this tip doesn't reach you too late. Take a standard eraser and give the Shocker a lil rubdown. I'm sure you noticed that when you would fix a line with your finger, you'd stain the square you rubbed it onto. But If the paint hasn't fully set, you can literally erase all of your mistakes. A rubber eraser is a Gundam marker's best friend.

Robo just lightly rub a q tip in some light isopropyl (as dry as possible ) and scrub the lines gently they will fade and blend nicely :) and he looks pretty clean for your first attempt you should try that on your transformers they give them major pop !

That was a some great customization music. And just that little bit of detail really makes the figure pop. And with it being a padded suit like that, you can always say the smudges are where he was in a fight. Not a big fan of the Hobgoblin, though. Weakest figure in the wave.

I know it's bootlicker logic, but I actually enjoy doing the Gundam pen work on characters like Ben Grimm and Shocker. There's just enough room for creativity without requiring real modding skill, and it's satisfyingly zen. Like an adult coloring book.

Either the brown or maybe a shade of orange is the best color for the panel lines. Something about the black makes it look way to prominent. Great vid uncle Robo!!

Robo I'm dying I just got a black Gundam marker to do some accent work on my action figures with metal legs and whatnot as soon as you went out the lines I laughed cuz I have that problem all the time and you're all over the place too thank God that that marker wiped away really nice it's is a great product though I would like to get more. (This past was made while building a house ty to ask who were able to decipher it and I have since edited it so a all normal folk may read. ) may the fwoosh be with you

Love the Will o' the Wisp reference. That's my most wanted Legend. My bad custom plan is to put a Legends Sentry head on the new Havok body coming out, add some power effects and try to convince myself it looks like him.

Right there with ya, Robo. I really dig the Ben Reilly Spider-man costum, but aside from that, its all Shocker, baby. I know he is a C-lister, but I have loved him ever since seeing him on Spider-man and His Amazing Friends, back in the 80's. I even plan to accentuate those lines. I had an inkwash in mind. Never tried it before though. Hope I don't screw it up. First I need to buy the figure. Thought it wasn't out until April.

With the extra price point that Marvel Legends are going for these days, Hob Goblin is unfortunately an easy pass. If only they kept the scales for the arms as they did for Green Goblin.

Having gotten it the boots that don’t let you use the glider is by far the killer of this figure. If they remodeled the glider to look more like the cartoon and add a peg hole (No excuse not to) then it would have been fine. As is the glider is completely worthless.

I got some Spider-man encyclopedia in the late 90s that introduced me to a lot of spider-mans rogue outside of the cartoon. Will o the wisps was one of them. Along with spidey's 4 other super hero identities, Captain Universe and all other insanity. Wonder where that's gotten to but was full of potential figure goodness

Fun review as always, Robo. I was wondering whether I should hit up my Shocker with some panel liner when it arrives, and I think I will now. I also have some plans for that hobgoblin which involve that retro green goblin with the goofy face. I think that with a paint job and limb swap it might look pretty spiffy in the end.

The limbs are my primary concern, since I do want the scale mail look and those feet have to change to be usable with the glider. Just took a look at how much that retro GG is going for. It's nuts. I'm lucky I already have one and the previous GG figure from the Sandman wave to fill the slot.

I recommend a matte topcoat to seal in the lines, the brand I recommend is Tamiya ts80 Flat Clear or Mr Hobby Mr super clear Flat

I'm so happy with the Shocker figure. One of my first Spider-Man comics had him as a B-story villain in the background and the character just got stuck in my mind. I will be keeping mine as is, but your line work is amazing and very tempting to mimic.

Still love the figures but would think the with the cost we spend for these figures today over just past decade mean prices def jumped a lot more then any other time and it seems the paint quality and some of the sculpts just aren’t near the quality we got years ago, even decades ago with some figures. And we paid a lot less back then for em. Granted the articulation is alot better I feel then past but even that isn’t really all that true with some figures back then to. Just feels like so many other things today. People want more $ for less quality and effort in figures, work and alot of things. Shame. Seems backwards to me

The other way to fill in the lines is to brush over them and wipe away the excess, but I'm good with having them not filled in. Unlike Spider-Man's web lines, these are just meant to be texture.

I've build dozens of Gundam kits & panel lining is a must to make your kits details pop up. But I much prefer the pour type marker where the ink would fill in the lines by itself.

I think if I panel lined Shocker, I’d do a yellow that’s slightly darker than the main quilt plastic. The brown just feels too much and not like stitching. Having a darker yellow might help it blend better.

the V on the belt is because of the technology of the suit. I forget what it's called exactly, "vibro" something like "vibrotech" or "vibrosuit". I can't remember the specifics but there you go.

WELL DONE! i was thinking to myself “i could’ve sworn i just saw that new shocker fig with the lines colored in.” so when i saw the marker come out i was stoked. nice time lapse & result. theese are great & love the line so far as well, BUT while it’s fun to make things better & your own, HASBRO should’ve done these things for us. I mean the pics of what the figs supposed to be representing are all right there next to em! that being said, i have seen some really rad Hobgoblin headsculpts that people have done for this figure (as well as the glider), that give him his signature brow & red eyes that he sports in the show. it’s a shame because they could’ve given us that face, still kept the tooling for the hat and that would’ve been fine. i guess we were spoiled by the first waves and the great job they did on TAS Green Goblin yknow? in the end you know i still have em & maybe now i’ll take the time & open Shocker and trick him out. not as easy with HG, though i’m sure people are hawkin’ TAS heads, i usually don’t go in for those for my Legends. also a big fan of those older “dingy” Legends Hobgoblin & Green Goblin & they’re definitely my favorites. ✌🏼©.

Honestly, with the hobb goblins glider instead of putting stirrups on the glider, they really should've considered pegs. Put the pegs where the Stir ups are in that way, the hobb gobbling will be able to stand on it that's what should have been done honestly enough with the stirrups. I know that the goblins have these hope feet, but no stance, I mean, pigs like a pig stand they need picks they would do so much better, at least in my opinion, so much better. Also, those eyes are actually supposed to be yellow. It could have gone with the same colored eyes that the pumpkin bomb has still not bad. I would have three d printed a glider though honestly just saying

The Hobgoblin could have gotten some chainmail texture added to the blue parts of his costume but I'm just glad I have a version of the character.

Since a scalemail body mold already exists for this character, it wouldn't have needed to be added. Hasbro actually subtracted it for some baffling reason.

@@alandoane9168 I assume it was to define them as two distinct versions. They're basically using the same molds of his rogues gallery but the animated version and that version probably was just wearing clothe pants. But I agree the "scalemail" is a more visually appealing look.

The lines on the Shocker look a lot better painted. I don't think the figure needs it when up close, but on a shelf the lines really pop when filled in.
