This has made my exciting evening of researching dehumidifiers slightly quicker

Lol, I'm on a similar journey right now. I was looking at Honeywell TPFIT but I read someone's comment praising their Meaco and the algorithm led me here. May I ask, which one did you end up buying?
@martinmuldoon6036 ай бұрын
@@aniljayakarmeaco is better at marketing than building good reliable dehumidifiers, I haven't looked at the honey well but my guess it would be a far better choice. This video is marketing hype that's all probably back handed by meaco or a distribution company selling them. I've took one apart, nothing special I've other Chinese made dehumidifiers so better to buy a cheaper one

Useful and interesting experiments - thanks! Will there be a more like-for-like comparison between two units from these brands with similar specs, e.g., the Meaco unit against the similar ElectriQ 12L Low-Energy Quiet Laundry Dehumidifier?
@ThePhotogalleria5 ай бұрын
We had two Meaco units. One lasted 1 year and the other 1.5 years so clearly proudly made in UK, just like the Hoover appliances. We also have a 15 year oldSiemens washing machine and a Miele vacuum cleaner. Really boring things, they just dont break down so you are stuck with the same appliance for decades. Boring but they have excellent performance.
@roger48805 ай бұрын
Meaco made in China, cheap plastic parts that won't last, e.g. the handle which bends and then cracks at the joints/uprights.

Advert for Meaco. Best value was the cheaper one.
@clansome3 күн бұрын
Sorry but that is rubbish, all it was was cheaper, not better value. Meaco - 5yr Warranty; Elelectriq - 1 year Warranty. Neither were the correct size of dehumidifier for the rooms they were used in anyway. They should have been using 18L, 20L or even 25L models. Whilst 25L is quite a bit more expensive to start with the strain on the components is far less.

My meaco is not as quiet as I thought. In fact, it is very loud. But it might be my own error. I test-run it immediately after the delivery but then 5 minutes later, I noticed in the manual that it is supposed to stand upright for 6 hours before its first usage to let refrigerant settle down. I then stop it and waited for 6 hours to run it again. The humming noise does not go away. But would my error have anything to do with humming noise? Its water extraction is still impressive.
@martinmuldoon6036 ай бұрын
This is clearly a propaganda for Meaco which is actually a very overrated Chinese manufactured, I've taken one the very same one apart that is feature in the video, the compressor is a danfoss knockoff named danfu, how blatant is that? It's an old style compressor which uses propane gas R290. The starter winding is poem circuit and would appears to have came from the Chinese factory without even testing. My advice if you think your buying British or European tech is a wild dressed up as sheep. It's over priced for a Chinese knock off, do yourself a favor ignore this meaco funded video and go into B & Q or screwfix but a much advanced scroll compressor model which has better efficency for less money.

Both units are small. Also you guys didn't even mention that there are TWO technologies - absorption and condenser type. That is NOT PROFESSIONAL COMPARISON. I think you guys are comparing two products and that is all. This appears to be all advertisement.

The problem with the Gadget show tests is there is no testing for durability. A modern cheap machine will often do the same job, but for how long?

*Note everybody: the Meaco plummets in performance below 18C (I have one). In the winter, in a damp property, get a desiccant dehumidifier. Only draw back is they use more energy. Sup to you.

Meaco support is poor, they will charge you for a warranty claim and expect the original box when returning, even if they accept the fault.

It's easier to keep humidity down in winter provided that you do the sensible thing and have some air circulation. The heat indoors will bring the humidity down but circulating air is a must to remove indoor sources of humidity. The summer is a bigger problem because the outdoor air can get very humid in the UK and it's not possible to remove it via heating during the summer, therefore a dehumidifier or dehumidifying air conditioner is a must.
@blueskellington5 ай бұрын
Depending on your heat source in winter, the heater can increase humidity. I have a propane wall heater (in TX) and my windows will sweat on the inside. Water vapor is a byproduct of the combustion. Cracking open some windows will let cool, dry air in, but my (expensive) hot (moist) air leaks out. Good and bad.
