I'm from Spain. Pegaso was a brand, not the surname of the engineer Who worked with Enzo Ferrari in Alfa Romeo. Wifredo Ricart was the guy Who worked with Enzo and designed the Pegaso automobiles. Pegaso was a brand of ENASA, that was a government company.

I'm from Belgium and I was astounded,(not to say thunderstruck) to hear that Enzo Ferrari had an argument with "Pegaso, a Spanish engineer"... As JoseLuis very approprately straighens things out, Pegaso was a car, not a man. Yet it was not every man's car. It was designed by Wilfredo Picart and it is true that Enzo and Wilfredo were at loggerheads when they worked together at Alfa Romeo. So they parted ways and separately built their own ultimate car. The 212 Ferrari had twelve cylinders and the Spanish Pegaso only eight ... but it technically outperformed the Italian car in many ways. For example the engine with four over-head camshafts and dry sump crankcase was good for 230/260/280 horsepower; the chassis featured double wishbone front and de Dion rear axle; the transmission was a 5 speed transaxle gearbox with limited slip differential and inboard brakes etc. Even the prancing horse on the bonnet was surpassed by the Pegasus horse performing the Iberian croupade (which is -as every equine enthusiast knows- a much more sophisticated and delicate dressage exercise). Now, seventy odd years later, Ferrari is still prancing, selling thousands of cars every year and Pegaso disappeared after buiding only 82 cars, not one more. This was due to the megalomania of one Generalissimo Francisco Franco who had commissioned the project and did not want to spare any expense just to show the post WW2 world that Spain was still worthy of its glorious past. But the adventure proved to be outrageously expensive and was abandonned after a few years.
