I do wonder if the game could have had a stronger design focus if Ikumi Nakamura had stayed on as director. Evidently he departure from Tango not long after the game was announced was a result of constant pressure from Zenimax & Bethesda to change and add things to the game eating away at her mental health. These days she seems to be doing well, having had a child and starting a new studio of her own since leaving Tango.
@PikaLink91
@PikaLink91 Жыл бұрын
With how she completely sold the game with her charming appearance, I just felt utterly backstabbed when hearing that she left. @goldglovegrappler1382

@PikaLink91 That's how we all felt on the moment, but knowing more details it must've been terrible for her at that time for her to leave. Maybe she stuck around longer than she wanted to so she could speak for the game at E3. Not sure if those answers are out there but I hope her new studio's first project turns out well.
@PikaLink91
@PikaLink91 Жыл бұрын
@@goldglovegrappler1382 If she planned on leaving already then, then she shouldn't have been on stage at E3 presenting the game in the first place in my opinion. It gave us false hope that a kind and charming soul like her was steadily behind the wheel. It's like showing up at a party only to be there for 5 minutes, take a drink, shake hands, and then leave again. I of course do too hope she has succes with future endeavors, but pulling a bait n switch like that is just not cool.
@NoExplosionsMcgee

@@PikaLink91 This is such a weird take and a complete misread of the whole situation. She left the studio for actual good reasons. She didn't up and leave the studio just because she suddenly changed her mind on the project on a dime because reasons. What happened was that Bethesda Softworks and Zenimax were--was again--trying to control a project wasn't theirs to begin with which was causing a lot of problems between Tango and their parent company. Ikumi Nakamura left because she was pregnant at the time and didn't want that whole stress inducing ordeal to affect her and child. She didn't "bait and switch" anybody.
@PikaLink91
@PikaLink91 Жыл бұрын
@@NoExplosionsMcgee It changes your perspective knowing the details. I mean, we are often only told "they left" without the actual reason. What I wanna know then is, is it really that easy to up and leave one studio for another? I read an article once about programmers who were absolutely miserable because they had wanted to make games their whole life, but the industry was nothing like they expected, but they also didn't feel they could just up and leave because they needed the salary.

When it was originally revealed, I pictured it would be a relatively lighthearted horror title - "it's SPOOKY" and all, I thought it'd be a thrill ride action title with ghost enemies. The final game just seems sort of bland in tone, though. As far as reading yokai entries go, I got that enjoyment out of the Nioh titles, which I do heartily recommend. Especially since all those yokai are various enemy types you actually fight, or in Nioh 2, use the powers of as well.

TEW2's design will, to me, always be superior to any open world. Open world and the size of it look great in screen shots and are back of the box features, but are often shallow, empty spaces. The smaller, more manageable spaces allows them to jam pack a lot of content, creating spheres of content in closer proximity. The size of Ghostwire is nice, and while shrinking the overall world may have not saved it, I think it would've made it at least feel more enriched.

You get the impression many games these days seek to be massive time sinkers than actually fun experiences in order to make their pricetag seem justified (now so more than ever with the $70 standard), why so many take this giant "open-world" enviroment design, mistaking the amount of time invested by the player in menial tasks and pointless trinkets to collect with actual enjoyment Again Hi-Fi Rush is a breath of fresh air because it actually stood from the crowd by doing the opposite of what everyone is doing, and yet there are certain sour grapes who belittle it as a lesser game because of its shorter-than-average lenght (ignoring that a game isn't really better for being +50-hours long)

they were definitely pushed to make this game a console saler for the ps5. A lot of games Sony has been money hatting from third parties feel like projects that definitely wanted a year or two to cook with smaller scope, but the need to push units like how titanfall did for the xbox one or destiny with ps4 was priotized because sony knows they're coasting on the ps4's wave and has no rock solid saler yet

I really enjoy using my PS5 but the first few years in retrospect for it will be remembered as cross gen filled, a mixed bag of 3rd party exclusives (FF16 looks like it'll be at least good though) and Insomniac doing most of the heavy lifting.

@@TerrorOfTalos Once I saw that the only real day 1 exclusive was a remake, I knew this gen was going to be extremely uncooked. I hope to fuckin god that the rumors of the next gen consoles coming 2028 is a lie. There is no reason why they can't extend this gen to 2030
@TerrorOfTalos

@@reggiefreeborn2143 Yeah this gen in particular being done after 8 years doesn''t feel right especially if a PS5 pro releasing by late 2024 is true. I mean the major differences between 8th and 9th gen are the huge increase in load speeds and games being able to look great while running at 60fps and above so what else can another leap even provide that's fresh or new for consoles? Technology will continue to be improved and refined sure but when it comes to games being developed the limits for what can be made at a certain scale with modern visual presentation are pretty much gone (at least for PS5 and Series X, the series S is just a half step).

Everyone who played the game really enjoyed it. This genera of yokai being in videogames is rare and having it open world made it fun. The combat never bored me like most games do and this game was perfect for people who don’t enjoy the usual horror puzzle games but like the aspects of suspense and mystery in horror. The only drawbacks from this game is voice acting, enemy variety’s, and a complex main story ending. They clearly made the game simple and fun but have already talked about a possible second game. The dlc of the game gives me hopes for a good future for this game.

I feel like the side quests are really where the fun is at and some of them were as good if not better than the main story. @1:45 I agree somewhat that some of the attacks dont feel like they do much. Even maxed out the wind powers (green) felt useless. But the maxed out fire ball was very hefty on almost any enemy. @3:45 I didnt know the value of those ghost parades until it was too late. One aspect of Ghostwire's motivations to collect is unfortunately invalidated by another game, that being the yokai folklore and Nioh 2. The snippets of lore about the yokai (or guardian spirits, depending) are not only unlockables you can read at your leisure in Nioh 2, but all of the yokai are a core part of the game as enemies you fight or allies you help. They also all have their own unique designs and constantly inhabit every environment you go to, rather than Ghostwire's limited set of ghost designs meandering around in the city. The game's difficulty and interpretation of the yokai designs would be the only things inspiring a preference for Ghostwire instead, but even then, I'm sure you can find videos for both if the curiosity runs that deep.

I will never understand the continued success of this style of open world game. Playing Hogwarts Legacy recently and the only thing that makes it good is the Harry Potter aspects. Not anything about the game itself. I don't understand why this style of open world game continues to be successful and therefore pushed by the execs. Unnecessarily large whith formulaic and bloated objectives. It ruined Ghostwire; while games like The Evil Within 2 underperformed when it tried to actually make a smaller and more bespoke open world. I think what confuses me most is you'll see so many people defend this style with every release like it. That people are fine literally playing the same game over and over with just a different coat of paint. They'll even replay these games that most of the missions are go to the quest giver, stilted inhuman and uncanny boring dialogue scene telling you to go fetch a number of something or fight a group of enemies, go back to quest giver, reward. I feel like a crazy person really hating it when it's apparently a very successful formula a mainstream audience enjoys. But also clearly there is something being done right as Ghostwire failed and did all these things, so there must be something to the formula I'm missing.

At least this game is worth experiencing and has soul to it unlike Redfall... Hopefully these two games underperforming means Zenimax will calm the fuck down on forcing shit down their devs throats, but if they hadn't learned that by now they never will. In any case, its a shame this game had to be a victim of structural meddling. Was a 7/10 that no one played that could have been a highly rated and beloved cult classic.

You get a trophy for getting all the spirits BEFORE you beat the game... so I've yet to actually finishing the story.

Watching gameplays and descriptions about the game, I must say that I have played Ubisoft open worlds that have more originality in it's structure and design. I feel GhostWire should have gone in a similar direction to Deus Ex Mankind Divided, a game with a small hubworld and complex side quests.

Really wondering what happened at Tango since HiFi Rush is so well made but was not advertised at all and Ghostwire was marketed fairly well but is an empty game.

hi fi was intended as a "small game", a pure passion project primarily made for gamepass, where individual game sales dont matter much. Ghostwire is an AAA project with a lot of money riding on it just on the production level, the more money, the more corporate interferece.

The game definitely felt rushed/unfinished. What was the deal with the one vision you have at the top of a building where the baddies surprise you, you fly off and then land on the motorcycle?

I just finished the game for my first time & I gotta say it’s not as bad as people make it out to be It’s a great open world game made by Tango It’s like Forspoken imo Awesome Games that are under appreciated To bad they will never get sequels because after these games were released both Devs went under😢

With it being added to PS+ soon, I might give this a go just for the main story. Endless open world grinding really doesn't sound appealing to me at all.

Same. I just downloaded, it’s very worth a play through a least. It’s really unique and quite fun. But be careful not to burn yourself out when exploring like with all open worlds.

They should've stayed closer to the reveal trailer and focus more on the tone and atmosphere of the city and NOT on the Ubisoft styled openworld, weird comber system and over the top/colorful action. Kinda ''I am Legend'', but in Tokyo with. Could'be been really something special, but it turned out to be so generic and kinda bad.

It was disappointing because it forgot it had a story, plus, like ALL open world games, the side quests get so damn repetitive.

This game is the result of TEW1 being panned and TEW2 being praised. They leaned into what differentiated 2 from 1 and this is what we got. TEW1 is a true cult classic. TEW2 and TG are already forgotten.

Ghost Wire Tokyo could’ve been this Heretic inspired fast paced FPS game,but as always Bethesda gave it the Far Cry treatment with lots of collectibles.

i'm gonna risk some hyperbole and say that, after beating the game and *almost* getting the platinum trophy, this had to feel like on of the most PS3 titles i played on my new PS5 last year, and the cutscenes border on embarassing. they are so tremendously *low energy*, with some characters not even moving their lips to speak (cause its ghosts talking...) and the main character just... standing there. Nothing ever feels intense or dynamic, its all soo dreary and boring. Sadly, this game also has the "beat the boss fight but lose in the cutscene" problem which adds to the frustration. If any game needed to learn lessons from so many games in different genres to help give it some personality, it might have turned out much better. But this is one game I bought on discount for $20, still feel like i over paid, and wasted my time. Only the morbidly curious need apply. 👻👻👻👻👻

I wouldn’t use the term “disappointing” unless your “forgettable AAAish action game aimed at unemployed late-20-somethings” sensors are very poorly calibrated.

Nah, I loved the game. Everything "flows" perfectly, and the story is actually really good, I haven't felt "real feelings" at the end of a story like I did with this game in years, since around Final Fantasy X or so, that long. It's short and sweet too, it doesn't overstay its welcome like other open world games. Atmosphere is amazing and the not-so-hard gameplay is just right for this... Not sure what people were expecting really...
