@@monsieur2761 Edit TLDR I don't like the Malenia fight with a passion and I say why. Site Nightmare King Grimm from Hollow Knight as an example of good boss design and what Malenia should've aspired to be. While I love Malenia's asthestic, design, lore, arena, and ost. I overall really don't like her boss fight. She could've been so good if not for a handful of things. 1 the life steal feels like and artificial way to make the boss harder. It's like the devs were thinking of ways to make it really hard and they had run out of good ideas and were like "Life steal yes, that makes for a fun and engaging boss". While Mohg has life steal it dose not feel artificial in any way as if you learn the patterns of the first phase you can go into the transition with full flasks and heal straight through, or use the tear and punish Mohg heavily. 2 waterfowl if basically a guarantee your dead move if your close to her. While yes you can dodge it it takes extream skill and timing and positioning. None of which I have or any other average player playing Elden Ring has. Not everyone is a skilled as Let Me Solo Her, so to most people it's undogodable. 3 to long of a fight. Maliketh is a good example of a difficult fight that doesn't outstay it's welcome. The transition is at half health making the fight quick but fun. Malenia has two health bars. TWO HEALTH BARS!!! The fight is already difficult for all the wrong reasons, now they made the fight even harder by giving her two health bars. Making the fight turn into a drag and also artificial cranking up the difficulty. 4 Scarlet rot in phase two. Do I even need to say anything. Oh yeah and she still keeps her life steal. And gets that stupid clone attack that's a not fun move in of its own. If it wasn't for those things this fight would be great. If they had found fun and engaging ways to make this fight challenging, fun, and fair then I would have loved this fight. Take my favorite boss from Hollow Knight, Nightmare King Grimm. He is fun, challenging, and fair. You can dodge every attack he throws at you, punish almost all of those attacks, and is a challenge. Something every boss should aspire to be. Fun, challenging, and fair. While Malenia is challenging, she is not fun to fight. Nor is fair to fight either.

I enjoyed the video! One note though - you call several bosses mandatory when in fact they're not. You only have to kill two shardbearers to progress the story, so a player could for example just fight Radahn and Rykard and enter Leyndell without ever even seeing Margit, Godrick, Red Wolf, or Rennala.

I like the list! I know my favorite is Godfrey as well as his second phase. In my opinion it's the most well balanced main story boss, he's SO cool, awesome lore, one of the best soundtracks in my opinion, and he's genuinely really fun to fight. Sometimes I die on purpose just so I can fight him again because it's so fun LOL

Fias champions have it so rough. Like they are not a good or memorable fight, but they are no where near as infuriating as the Godskin Duo or Fire Giant, which are not fun but also very difficult

@@anotherguy3082 I don't really mind Godskin Duo that much personally, I know the community in general despises them but in my eyes they're kinda whatever, and I found it pretty fun. Fire Giant I love, but I get how it can be frustrating, it's a fight i don't necessarily look forward to, but every time I do it it's still pretty fun and satisfying for me, but obviously your experience may vary!

Wow! The quality of this video I thought you were a much bigger KZbinr! Really well done with the video I haven't faced the top two of yours yet, but out of the ones I've faced, I'd have to say that Melania is the top one for me. They get messy after that but the Godskin duo lands in dead last for me. It wasn't a fun boss fight and by the time I got to them, I just wanted to fight the Lord of death.

Weirdly enough the boss that taught me souls style is margit. He’s the one that taught me auto lock (yes I didn’t even know it existed before then just to be pointed by my friend as I struggle my ass to kill him). The satisfaction of beating him was immense. unlike the elden beast where I only felt annoyed to my core Malenia was hard, but to by then I had earned way more experience playing the game

i really enjoyed Niall every time i fought him his summons are not to bad cos mostly i have a pretty high level build when i fight him and weridly the Duel Swords one comes at me after i Smack him the Shield one fights so its like just fun really and Niall's Boss Fight is so much fun i never fell as he has too much HP or Def and i can find at least 1 opening for what ever i have sum attacks even give me a chance to get off brians of sin!

My top 5: 1. Godfrey/Horah Loux - only fight that I got to experience pure aggression from both sides, a true brawl to the death. 2. Radahn- Best buildup of any boss, and felt like a true raid boss. They captured the spirit of the festival perfectly while still making him tough - even with summons 3. Morgott - it helps that he’s my favorite character, but he’s fun as hell to fight, and the final blows of each side landed at the same time, with him dying and surviving with 1hp. 4. Radagon/Elden Beast: I’ll get hate for this, but I really liked Elden Beast, and Radagon was fun as hell. While Elden Beast can be a bit annoying at times, he’s designed to be tough even with a summon, forcing the player to “git gud” to actually BEAT Elden Ring 5. Mohg - tough as hell, and literally my hardest boss in Elden Ring, Mohg really made me work for that win. His first phase was easy, but his second phase was very unforgiving. He was tanky to all of my attacks, and coated the area, making terrain difficult. The result led to me going all out to get that stagger for easy damage, then weaving through the terrain and throwing lightning bolts, whittling him down from afar and desperately trying to stay alive. Out of all wins in Elden Ring, Mohg felt the most like a true Dark Souls win

At level 164, with a mimic at +10, she killed me 12 times in a row. The 13th time, I switched my weapon to a +10 fully upgraded falling star beast jawbone, and used my fully upgraded mimic equipped with +10 bloodhound fang. I cut right through her that time. I know most players like to go without sunmons, but if you want to beat her, I promise using that weapon and your summons will overwhelm her.

I did mimic tear with us both using Mohg's trident. It was a bit reliant on RNG but when we both used the ash of war at the same time it absolutely melted her first phase. I mostly used blood fly incantation for her second phase. I was overleveled at that point and I'm not against using summons so even though it took me several tries she still felt pretty easy. I actually got really lucky with waterfowl dance, whenever she did get it off, she almost always targeted the mimic. The move that kept killing me was the scarlet aeonia at the begging of phase 2. Took me forever to figure out how to dodge that properly. But anyways, yeah, I've played other souls game but never beat one before Elden Ring and certainly never put this many hours into any other. I play a little cheesy but I'm having a ton of fun and I love how customizable the experience is without the devs giving in to an actual easy mode. It's more along the lines of "make your own difficulty" and I've been having a ton of fun. That said, there are some real discussions to be had any balance as I beat most bosses first try which is crazy considering I'm not particularly good imo.

Top 5 for me would be Morgott, Radahn, Godfrey/Hoarah Loux, Mohg and Maliketh. Malenia would be my favourite but my god Waterfowl Dance brings her down. I also LOVED Rennala but I felt it was too easy as a melee build second time round, first time round as a mage it was much harder. Least favourites would be Godskin Duo and Gargoyles for being bs duo fights… and Fire Giant. I feel like I hate fire giant so much compared to others, but something about his huge HP bar and tendency to just roll around along with the camera going awol.. not a fan. Especially since I don’t find the fight that engaging just very slow.

I'm surprised you didn't think Morgott was too easy. I love Morgott but it's too easy to be overleveled when fighting him so I'd have to rank him a little lower. Mohg on the other hand might be my favourite, idk yet. Between him and Maliketh. Radahn I don't like at all, there's so much wrong with that boss fight and I don't get all the praise he gets.

I have 2 separate favorite boss lists. 1 is the spectacle of them the other is the fight itself. Rykard is 1 of my favorite spectacle bosses but he's pretty easy, even after the patch he desperately needed

Elden beast (it's a great spectacle but I just didn't personally find it that fun) 4. Fire giant (a cool fight but I don't like fighting giant enemies because of the weird camera angles you sometimes get with them) 3. Normal dragons (same reason as fire giant plus the hitboxes on their breath attacks can be really weird) 2. Putrid crystalian trio (it's a trio boss fight that inflicts rot, Need I say more?) 1. Godskin duo (I actually really like the individual godskins, but I don't think I need to explain why I dislike the duo)

Something I noticed about Malenia that I noticed watching streamers attempts to defeat her, her attacks have different frequencies depending on her opponent. For example, when facing someone using a shield, she attempts her grab attack a lot more. Mages see the Waterfowl Dance more often. Etc.

Hhh. Well. I haven't fought Malenia or Placiduwhat yet, or Radagon. 1st playthrough, so. Sometimes I'm overleveled for a boss, or my summons made it way too easy, so that I didn't have to engage with the mechanics. But if I can name my top 3 so far: 1. Maliketh 2. Margitt 3. Smarag (that glintstone dragon) Maliketh is a no brainer. Had to learn to respect the 1st phase just to have enough flasks for the 2nd - my summons couldn't help, so, lol I had to master my reactions to his wild moves. So rewarding when I beat him, I really felt like I earned it. Margitt was an awesome 1st real boss. My lvl 20 samurai thought he had hair on his chest until Margitt sat him down and had a serious talk about keep-calm. Smarag was the 1st dragon I fought actually. I think at like, level 30 or 40. So memorable, ah. The lake for the arena, and his cool-colored glintstone breath, the way he shook the screen when he landed or tried to squish me, magnificent. I could get 1-shot by him at the time, so I was sweating haha. But I learned his moveset during the 2 or 3 times i fought him, and was slightly disappointed when I was able to move so confidently when facing all the other open-world dragon bosses. Once I finish the story, I'll set my 2nd playthrough up for a great experience without summons

Honestly I was a little dissapointed with the OST until I heard Mohg themex is just an amazing orchestral marvel and the lyrics even has a meaning, that and Godfrey really stand out, overall a bit better OST than DS3 but no way as good as Bloodborne

@@lemonke1709 I learned not long after commenting: You know the passage to the Snowfields right after the Lift? It's there. You need to drop down on a ledge in that middle circular area where there are some militiamen, there's a invisible bridge there. Following that path gets you to a boss fight with another Mimic Tear. I think you get a spirit ash from it.

Interesting list, appreciate your effort putting it together. Can't say I agree with it at all, though. I just feel like you really let lore importance dominate your thinking rather than design. To me, Maliketh (using pre-patch colossal weapon) and Radahn (also pre-patch) were everything wrong with the game's approach to bosses for completely different reasons, and Elden Beast is one of the worst bosses in a FromSoft game. Waterfowl Dance alone boots Malenia out of the top 3 (maybe #5?), it's a design atrocity. Elemer of the Briar, the two solo Godskin fights, and Commander Niall are all classic, excellent Fromsoft bosses. Regardless of personal opinion, I think putting Margit and Morgott together is just wrong, as is putting the two Commanders together, they're all completely different bosses. Also, I would've liked to see more of the truly missable foes on this list, such as the Crucible Knight duo (worst boss in the game for me), the putrid Crystalians, and all of the Evergaol fights.

The Twin Gargoyles are worse than the Godskin Duo. Their arena is colored such that it's not clear where the poison spit is, and in addition to building up poison, it chews away at your health more ferociously than Scarlet Rot. I feel like the Mimic Tear is great because it's so easy, basically demonstrating that the AI of Elden Ring is in fact no match for you when given the same tools. I feel that there needs to be some way to fix people unequipping their gear to fight it, maybe have it switch to whatever you're currently using and have it update in real time as you switch weapons? I don't like Mohg. I dislike the way his bloodflame coats the arena, which you can't see because you need to keep the camera on him, and he flies up in the air quite often. So he can feel pretty unfair. I'd still put him in at number 10, I just don't like him as much as the others. Bottom 3: Crystalians, Valiant Gargoyles, and I genuinely can't think of a boss I hate as much as those two. Top 3: Maliketh, Morgott, and my absolute favorite, Godfrey/Hoarah Loux.
