At 4:27 why does completing the square give you the minimum point of the equation? I’m looking for a deeper understanding behind just the fact that it works

I actually thought about making a video on this! When you first make the square bracket you are actually writing the equation of the quadratic that sits on the x-axis using the centre of reflection (by finding the midpoint of the two roots which tells you the x-coordinate of the turning point in the point of reflection) then when you complete the square you are essentially translating that graph up or down and moving the current turning point (which sits in the centre of reflection) up or down to fall in line with the original parabola, hence the constant added to the end then tells you the y-coordinate of the maximum or minimum point! Hope this helps! Never tried to explain it via a comment before ha! 😁🙏🏼

I guess that depends, if you feel that you are going to be happy with your results then you could get ahead of the curve by starting a-level work! Maths for example, if you started working on these topics then even if you did decide to retake your maths GCSE then these videos would really benefit your understanding of the grade 8-9 topics 😁🙏🏼

TronexGaming Yes, if a table of values is enough to give you all of the points of intersection and the turning point then that is no problem, but the methods and processes I cover here allow you to answer any style of question, if you watch the final question you will see what I mean. It is more about understanding each of the processes and how it relates to the graph rather than finding the quickest way to sketch the quadratic, hope that makes sense 😁🙏🏼
