wow I feel like this has taught me more than any dragged out multi-part video has. You're explaining complex things in a pretty simple way that's easy to understand, doesn't feel like you're trying to talk over my head with a bunch of technical jargon.

Your video was very helpful, even for someone like me who doesn’t work with digital media for art. Your take on color combos for creating the mood that fits environment and story gave my brain something to “chew on” as I dive into a bigger project. Thank you!

About 2 months ago I started learning digital art (with a focus on environment art) and until today I really improved and that makes me happy :D but there are lots of things that I still need to figure out. What I would love to understand in this speed painting tutorial (even though it's not the topic of the video) is your use of brushes. Which brushes did youse use? Why did you pick those? How did you use them? For example for me it looked like for things like lighting / fog you are yousing a soft air brush (I think that's what it's called?) But for example for the small foliage details: are there specific brushes that help you with that alot or would you say it doesn't really matter, you could use any brush? Because in Krita for example there are extra brushes for painting things like grass, bushes etc. Anyways, love your work and I hope you see this 😄
@TheGeekArtist3 жыл бұрын
There are definitely specific brushes exclusive to foliage and some of them are great. Some are pre installed in the softwares and some need to be downloaded. But if you know your way around a brush, you can create a whole painting just with the round brushes, and I think it's important for beginners to do that and understand strokes and take that challenge of creating the most out of the least. I made a video on foliage painting with the basic round brush or air brushes. Please have a look kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZoGZqWxqZ9SCoK8

Any tips for someone who doesn’t have this colour lookup thing? (I used sketchbook on iPad)
@nicolec44803 ай бұрын
I am a traditional artist and moved to digital recently - when i started doing my greyscale in CSP i had my paper layer at the bottom, and then just started painting with greys using my brush at different opacity. I was using the eraser instead of painting wiht white as i was so used to traditional of using the white of the paper. But when i did this and you turn off the paper layer the erased areas of course have no pixels and then trying to apply gradient map to it doesn't look good. Do you not use eraser then? Also why can you not erase when you have the alpha lock and repaint over top of what you erase?
