Save the screws. You *will* need 6-32 screws as an elechicken sooner or later. You can also use the ears as washers/spacers. Also, a trick with using Romex/NM strain reliefs with flex cord is to make a bend strain relief out of electrical tape. For making more biggerer versions of these, you can use a chase nipple and a pair of machine screws and nuts (I know that technically makes them bolts; shut up) to gang boxes together. Just remember to file/grind down the facing edges of the box covers so their mounting holes line up with the ones on the boxes.

When wiring plug and outlets, I don't match up the colors (wires to screws); I go by position. It's easy for the minimum wage factory workers to get the brass & silver screws backward - I've seen it. OK, I've only seen it once in the last 40 years, but I've seen it. Regardless, if you go by position you'll never go wrong.

Something about all this is amusingly therapeutic and calming: inside jokes, unsubstantiated insults, misplaced items and tools, overall chaotic nature of this whole mess 😅 Like in real life 😂

Great project; I have one on my bench at home and one at work. I used a bell box (2-gang weatherproof box) with a cable gland to keep OSHA happy at work.

I love watching the pair of you working together, it always makes me smile. Although I can't seem to resist seeing you as electrician versions of Waldorf and Statler! Hang on, do plug points in the U.S. not come with switches integrated into them? The earth pin is always uppermost here as well so Paul is obviously correct. ;-p According to the subtitles I should say .Eppiccurricacy what ever the hell that is!

Right side up means nothing in Chicago, where many of them are put sideways because EMT is mandatory for all residential installations and it's easier to pull through lengthwise boxes.

screws are painted when you need to know whats what. a single pole switch doesnt care whats hot and whats the switch leg and the manufacture save time and money not painting them. ground is the only important one
