How to Make a DIY Brooch Board to Display Your Vintage Brooches
I love vintage brooches, and I love to display them in my dressing room. My darling husband made a brooch board for me several years ago, and of course I've acquired several more brooches over the years, so it was time to make another DIY brooch board to house my new vintage beauties.
This is a really simple and inexpensive DIY project, and it's such a great way to display your vintage brooches. You can use just about any frame, I suggest thrifting one or maybe you have an old frame already that you aren't using.
I used cardboard for the backing, medium quilt batting Poly-Fil, and stretch velvet for the fabric.

I made a beautiful lace pillow and pinned my broaches on it. It sits on my guest bed. The broaches go back to great grandmother, grandmother, mother, auntie and my childhood. Grandmother used to give me a jeweled broach for my birthdays. Unfortunately……she died when I was nine. So I have just a few from her. I love broaches as she did.

What a lovely frame and beautiful material for a broach board! I happen to be a quilter and used some scrap fabric with an old frame my husband found for me. I have 3 broach boards total, 1 large and 2 mini. I really enjoy displaying them and seeing them everyday besides wearing them. I always enjoy seeing what others have come up with. I've watched your other video about DDay reenactment in Conneaut Ohio, I live near there and was also up there that weekend, sorry I missed you! Thanks for sharing!

This tutorial inspired me to see what I could do. I ended up thrifting fabric and an embroidery hoop and making a brooch board with those materials and poly fil! I can see how picture frames are an advantage because of the little tabs that help to secure the backing. I had to find another way. It involved an old used t shirt and hot glue. Lol

All your brooches look wonderful. I suppose if you just use it for decoration, then you could use brooches which are NQP (not quite perfect). From my own experience, I know that some of these older brooches do dry out and shed their stones. I’m always sticking stones back in, that’s why I often buy pieces of old broken jewellery as they are a store of real vintage stones that can be pried out and used again. I love brooches also - I would walk around looking like a Christmas tree if I had my way … 😂

These brooches are on display for wearing, not for decoration. I wear my brooches just about every day. I do have a framed tree made out of costume jewelry that my great uncle made for my great aunt, that is for decoration as they are glued onto the velvet backing

What about pins with butterfly backings? Would you poke that through the cardboard and connect it through the back like normal? Or would you need a different style display/board?
@TheGlambassador
@TheGlambassador 10 ай бұрын
I don’t fasten any of my brooches, but you absolutely could. Since there is enough padding underneath I just poke the pin right in. The padding combined with the velvet really holds the pin in place. It makes it easy to place and remove the brooches.

Oh I’ve got you! You need a MagnaPin. It’s a small magnet that you attach one side to the brooch then you can just use the other small magnet to attach to your garment. Check out this Reel I did showing how it works. instagram.com/reel/ChzxhYVAwqY/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

Hi! I have a question. When you push the pins in does it damage the actual pin. I just so scare it might damage it.
@TheGlambassador
@TheGlambassador 2 ай бұрын
No, not at all. The pin is just piercing the batting and the fabric. I’ve not had any damage to my brooches using this brooch board.
