I really appreciate giving the story an ending (eventually)! This reminds me of the Knights of Last Call's first campaign. They realized they didn't want to keep it going but gave it a narrative ending, and it worked really well.

I think changing APs is a great choice. Also this happens in home games all the time, if anything this is very on brand for TTRPG groups, so I'm stoked for the next one and will miss the characters from this one

It feels like the campaign had sped up already in this episode (maybe because there was no huge fight with raiders). To me, it is in these moments, when the GM and the players deviate from the book, the game starts breathing. It becomes more diverse, new situations and totally unexpected roleplay arise. So please, stay creative and bold with the new AP! Your show has a huge educational potential, showing the dynamic of the group and how everyone at the table can look after each other and work together in real life to improve the quality of the game. The cabinet fight and your discussions about the AP and how the adventure is going are great examples. I wish I talked more to my players.

I was a big fan of A&A, but Skid, Joe and Troy HATE Starfinder. It was really obvious near it's end and it dragged down the show.

@AeronBlade I don't think anyone hated it, they just didn't enjoy certain aspects of the system, like the complexity of ship combat and the concept of sacrificing logic for game balance (limited healing for Dr. Frisk, for example). I tend to agree with the latter. But I've watched the SF2E playtest they recorded during Gencon, and it seemed to me that they were very enthusiastic about it. To be honest, I don't feel like A&A went down at any point. For me, at least 😊

Sometimes you have a great idea for a campaign and for some reason it just doesn’t hit the way everyone expected. Some players might like it but mostly it’s just not hitting so the group decides to stop the game and move on. The GCN crew truly represent all of the regular gaming groups out there , of course, with some extra polish.

Maybe I am in the minority, but I've really enjoyed watching you guys play Gatewalkers and I never really understood why troy and some of the cast members did not like it. With that said, if they were not having a good time, or believe they can do a better game then i'm all for the switch. Super stoked to see what's next!

I am loving this camping 100%, however, if the players and Troy are not feeling it really pop as it should, I understand why they would prefer giving it a good conclusion sooner , rather than later, and move on to the next adventure to show they can do even better!

I didn't understand all the hate for gatewalkers. It was a little slow to begin with, but I really enjoyed the crew going to Castrovel, and I've been enjoying the crew in Skywatch. I am very excited for what comes next though!

Hot Take: It's good that they're dropping this AP. Gatewalkers wasn't a good choice to begin with. Another horror show? I got tired of it easily and I much preferred Strange Aeons anyway. I want to see an Epic adventure from Troy that centers on the characters. Doesn't have to be Kingmaker, a homebrew one would be more than welcome.

Homebrew just gives you a buffer to say "this is the story I want to unfold." It's a good buffer. But also, Troy's idea about making a system for performing TTRPG is best. Pathfinder/dnd is not good for story telling.

It has good moments. It also feels disjointed at times, going from set piece to set piece. The story doesn't flow the best. If players are often asking, "where are we again, and why are we here", that's not good.

At first I was sad for the decision to end the campaign early. However, after the reassurance that it would be completed with a proper ending (and not just truncated), I am very much relieved. More than that, I think I appreciate a tighter arc and moving more directly through the story. Less fat, more meat! Awesome. Brave, good choice.

In general, if you're trying to expedite a campaign, you can treat navigation rolls like engagement rolls from Blades in the Dark. Instead of a random encounter, have the party reach their objective with a disadvantage. In this case, they could stumble into the front gate of the Obsidian Order's base. That being said, the wolf encounter was cool.

I’ve started watching gate walkers after finding GCN on Spotify listening to Starfinder Dune and Wrath and Glory. To be honest this campaign has felt more like a dungeon crawl with big combats every week, than any of those campaigns and that can only take a campaign so far IMO. I do adore all the past and present characters so dearly. But stories end and that’s ok :)

There’s no Thomas Exposition. No Harry Tiazell. No L’Orc or Johnny Hafling or Chase Cunningham. The PC’s in this campaign are… depressing and mean without being funny. Maybe that’s the AP’s mood, but it’s really hard to fall in love with any of the characters. Maybe it’s the terrible rolls in the first 30 episodes. Barnes is funny, but he’s consistently punished for it…. Cynicism isn’t funny when everyone is a cynic.

Hopefully the next AP isn't one with a battle every time they enter a new room. The first adventure book had them fighting and resting every 50 feet. Plus the whole dark mystery with Kaneepo was cool but ultimately has zero impact going forward. 69 episodes in and the characters have no idea what they need to be doing.

I can say that I hadn't really connected with Gatewalkers the way I did with Giant Slayer and Legacy, but I don't really want to see things necessarily streamed-lined. The "race to the end" isn't what I play RPGs for. It's the side stories, the character development. Even the off-the-rails sessions. RPGs aren't something you "win" at. The nature of the APs and a good GM can keep things from going too far astray, but give me more of Sydney, Kate, Skid, Matthew, and Nick's escapades that are true to their characters even if they don't move the AP along. It's still a great story.

I think the Hubert scene is a really important moment, and I'd like to point out the comment around 46:45, talking about "streamlining the adventure" is exactly what makes Gatewalkers less appealing. I've enjoyed Campaign 2, I think the characters are great, but I think it loses some of its appeal with this obsession about having an efficient adventure and getting to the next important bit. These goofy ass scenes are the charm of the show, and TTRPGs in general. Yes, the L'orc 1v1 in Giant Slayer was an amazing moment, but so were the basketball playing aliens in A&A. I won't blame anyone at the table for this, though, because part of my enjoyment of campaign 2 stems from the fact that my group finally switched off D&D5e to PF2e and chose Gatewalkers, so I'm getting to see the group here experience the same story I did, not too far behind me. Which means I'm also wholly aware of the slog that is Gatewalkers and that it's very hard (if not impossible) to really get into the moment and RP. It's a testament to the group how much RP they are able to do with such a limited canvas.

I honestly feel this adventure seems worse because the combat is especially brutal and borderline unfair. Something like Seasons of Ghosts would be a good choice for an AP imo. Combat is more reasonable. It has an interesting plot. A lot of RP etc etc

I discovered the whole network with the beginning of this campaign. Having subscribed and listened to the other shows (Legacy of the ancients, Call of the Wild, ect) I’ve bitten the bullet and started Giantslayer. As a pf1e guy i am biased a bit. But Legacy and Giantslayer really do kick the teeth of out Gatewalkers. TBH, if I didn’t like the players in the show I wouldn’t have watch all these episodes. I am glad it’s ending just because the last 20 episodes feel like a sad party

In a way I'm sad to know that Gatewalkers won't go a full run. But, I agree with the overall assessment y'all have been floating for a while: It's too much of a slog for the payoff. I'm curious what's up with the gates, for the missing moment, that's probably a very interesting story. Good on y'all for seeing that it's not working for you which means it will not work for the audience. And, it will exhaust y'all to keep trying to put on the show when it's not spontaneously emerging.

I love this campaign. The only issue i ever had with it was the length of the episodes. They're so short that sometimes it seems like you guys get nowhere. Wouldn't want to lose the bant neither, just feel like the episodes should be longer. I know you guys have spoken about it before though. Just my thoughts

I respect and understand the choice to want to put a bow on it before sending it out to pasture, but personally I hope that’s all done sooner rather than later, even if that means a hasty wrap up. I’d love for them to scrap this quickly and then kick over to an arc or two of SQSS, as I think that’s some of the most fun stuff on the network. Just me, and everyone’s going to have their own opinion here of course, I can’t fault anyone for wanting some more substantial resolution, but something about announcing the cancellation really deflates any sense of stakes moving forward in the campaign imo. Ultimately though I’m along for the ride and happy to be here regardless of what they choose to do, but I’d kind of prefer it if they just got on with it and tore the bandage off already. Praying for the TPK at this point, as it’d be a fun and fitting way to end things after all they’ve been through in the AP lol.

From first episode, one of the most thoughtfully crafted and performed characters on the network, from a roleplaying perspective. I genuinely dont want this to sound mean, but with giant slayer you guys caught lightning in a bottle. you (all) were serious when it mattered. I just dont feel Sydney and Kate bring the same level of story telling the others do and hell I miss Grant. Dont get me wrong I think Sydney and Kate add charm and make me smile from time to time, but I feel like for a FULL campaign I miss the level of immersion you guys had with Giant Slayer, and I just havent felt that with gatewalkers. Im sorry to Syd and Kate they are awesome in their own right but i feel for the flagship it was the story that pulled me in
