actually the taking of the plane is a nod to the taking of the Zero during WW2. One Japanese zero crashed into Alaska and the military recovered it easily. It was repaired and flight tested to figure out its strengths and weaknesses. The downed zero got us brand new air combat tactics that fought the Zero on equal footing, then came the ultimate Zero killer The Hellcat which was designed specifically to kill the Zero. It also became a multi purpose plane that carried guns, bombs, torpedoes, and anything you can dream up.

As a couple comments pointed out, Gen and Stanley are speaking English. It's one of the issues I had with the episode as adaptation. They tried to "make it clear" by having Gen speaking in English but obviously that didn't work. The series only has a handful of multilingual characters including Senku, Gen, Ukyo, Francois, and a few others to be revealed. But of course it would be hard for the Japanese voice actors to mimic whole conversations in foreign languages. As for why Taiju, this also may not have been clear. Xeno said they were going after the scientist specifically. So Gen picked someone who could take a hit and also would volunteer to be Senku. Basically Magma is bad choice despite having a good build and Kinro is decent back up choice but doesn't have as much durability as Taiju. IMO it's also probably a meta reason. Taiju early on was shown off (and drawn in the conception stages) as the main character of the series early on. So I think it's in reference to that too. (There's one other reason I could add but it's massive spoilers so I won't. If I remember I'll bring it up when relevant)

I think it also has to do with the fact that Taiju is ferociously loyal to Senku and would never betray him or the KOS no matter how the chips fall. I also considered Kinro as a backup choice but he may already be seen as a "samurai" by Stanley (a fighter) and he's not well versed in science and could be tripped up if questioned (Taiju isn't either but still a better choice overall).

It is actually crazy how another scientist was able to live. Does that mean there are other scientists too in different countries who might have survived ? But how did the scientists survive and when did he got out of stone and was the method of healing the same as senku from stone ? Man dr stone episodes always left us with more questions than answers haha

I'm actually not 100% sure if Gen, Stanley Snyder (the soldier), and Dr. Xeno are speaking Japanese in these scenes right now. There are times when story tellers take some liberties when it comes to handling certain language barriers. Basically, they could be just speaking Japanese for the purposes of telling the story for the ease of the audience & performers, but "in-world" they are ACTUALLY speaking English and we're just getting an auto translation. It wouldn't be too inconceivable for Gen to know at least passible English given his background and how he almost was able to pretend to be Americans in earlier seasons. That being said, I think the #1 indicator that is usually here to help signal the audience that this is indeed happening would have ben Gen thinking to himself, "he's speaking English" or something similar, but since that didn't happen it is still well within reason to assume that it is all in Japanese so far. There is though the part of their conversation where Gen mentions them coming from Japan and they take a major note of that, but if they are *currently speaking in Japanese* then they should probably already know that just based on the language they are currently speaking with. Though them being surprised could be an act, but we don't know enough about their characters yet to really determine that yet (at least from an Anime only perspective, I have not seen the original Manga). So overall I'm about 70/30 on my confidence of them actually speaking English and it being auto-translated for a Japanese audience over them just straight up communicating in Japanese, but there is enough doubt & speculation either for both possibilities that it could be either at this point.

You are correct they are speaking English, but it is shown as Japanese. Only a few of the Americans can speak Japanese, and only a few of the Kingdom of science speak English. This does become a plot later about how they will communicate, but it's not that big of spoilers

I think by Stanley speaking in Japanese, story-wise, they are actually speaking English with Gen since Stanley is American. They're just speaking Japanese on the fourth wall for voice actors' convenience. Also for choosing "Doctor" Taiju, i think Gen think of it for the last second because aside from being a brute as per Gen, he is also having some knowledge of the 21st century technology. But sure Gen has reason why Taiju of all the Kingdom of Science.. no spoilers as a manga reader hehe 😅

Yeah its the same thing as season 2 when senku speaks english in the telephone when talking to ukyo to avoid getting understood by other people around ukyo but it's translated to jp to be better understood by the jp audience

Actually gen is a master manipulator of his own accord. He actually beat the polygraph because he’s done it before. He knew exactly how to beat it. The Japanese court system still admits polygraphs as evidence. The judges in Japan aren’t as lenient. they don’t have trial by jury just the Judge makes the decision based on evidence. Evidence can also lie which is why judges there do not exclude evidence. It’s a mess of legal morality as deals can’t be made or a lighter sentence being handed down. Judges can be easily corrupted by money there which is so bad. Trial by jury is better still as at least it’s out of a judge’s hands.

The time when Gen is face to face with Stanley up to Gen meeting Dr Xeno, they're speaking in English, there were no other japanese speaking characters around so they made it like they're speaking in Japanese but it's English... Once there are others that speaks japanese, they'll change the way the American characters speak to English... Kinda like when ukyo first talked to senku and gen from the telephone, they started it of with ukyo talking in English to let the viewers know that ukyo just wanted to talk to senku and gen without the others understanding, when it's just the 3 of them talking, it turned to Japanese but for the other characters that are there with them, the 3 of them are conversing in English

I'm guessing Gen picked Taiju to throw under the bus because Stanley probably saw all the fighters, it'd be weird if the head scientist in charge was among them, Tsukasa is famous so he might get recognized, and Taiju would do anything for Senku including protect him. Also, on the chance they decided to capture Taiju to interrogate, he can serve two functions; blab to them to stall time without telling them a thing and also maybe convince them that Senku's party isn't here for conquest. Something also definitely seemed off about the American settlement; with all this corn, an airfield, a factory, and we've only seen 3 people on top of only sending 1 person to deal with a potential threat of like 50 people. I don't think the Americans know how to revive people manually.

There is also the old way of filling the sky with flak. You don’t have to be accurate to down a plane. The flak is really bullets filled with metal shards that explode at a certain height. The idea to get overlapping fields of fire for the shards to tear the plane apart. It’s a classic way to put up a defensive shield against enemy planes. Also all guns that are anti air are classified by the distance they are supposed to explode at. The size the shot is matters some but not as much as you think. It depends on what type of ship it’s going on and it’s exact combination of mounted weapons.

I think Gen's choice of who to prop up as the head scientist was based around a few variables, those being 1. They need to be a modern human 2. They need to be capable to endure a physical confrontation 3. They need to stay in a secure location (most likely Perseus) Tsukasa, and Hyoga fit the first requirements, however if they need to send an advance party they will be the first choice to go as frontline fighters, while Taiju doesn't like to harm anyone, and as such would stay behind, and due to Kinro, Moz and Matsukaze being primitive people they wouldn't have any modern knowledge to potentially bluff their way out of a non-physical confrontation, as such Taiju was the best choice for covering all bases.

If gen said Ginro the enemies would be suspicious since he doesn't have a crack from being petrified for so long. He also didn't say Tsukasa since Stanley saw him holding a weapon which would also raise suspicion.

The reason why he picked Taiju was because he needed someone who would follow a lie without question. Kinro is smart and diligent enough to fit the roll but he may accidentally slip the roll or accidentally ask a clarifying question with him being very straightforward, which could blow the fact gen was lying.

The language switch in the second season was done better, Senku started to speak english with Ukyo but at some point the english got overlayed with him speaking in japanese. In japan they like to use words of different languages in anime(perhaps in all media) but they try to keep it small, so at most short sentences. Thats why they only start in the foreign language to show: Hey the characteres dont talk in japanese, but here is the rest of the conversation in japanese. As for the choice of Taiju: Gen choose the toughest of the tough ones, so if push comes to shove, he might take a hit and survive and Taiju would be more than willing to sacrifice himself for Senku. He would definitely volunteer to take this role.

I think the biggest reason Gen chose Taiju over anyone else is because Taiju is Senku's best friend and Taiju would do anything for Senku. Other reasons obviously are that Taiju is very strong and because he was around during the 2019 petrification as you brought up. Probably the second best choice would be Tsukasa, who no longer seems to be against Senku, but out of all the main players loyal to Senku and the Kingdom of Science, Tsukasa is the one probably most likely to betray Senku and Gen couldn't take that risk that even if it is a very very small risk.

About the language Americans speak here. They don't speak Japanese! At least as i remember from the manga. There will be a situations when Senku's team will use it as an advantage. You know it is always looks stupid when you have two languages in a show, and at the beginning author shows that person speaks different language, and then the same person starts to speak the main language of the show. Like, you know, you understand, it is just an imitation. My thought it would be better not to play this game. It's really rare when an actor speaks two languages well, so let him speaks his natural, and public will imagine that he or she like speaks foreign language. Or if it is really important, then give a role to a native speaker, and save the second language for the whole show with subtitles! What do you think?
