when we discovered the good and the beautiful we litterly dropped what we were using and jumped in because it was a fight to get school done with my oldest too. my oldest absolutely did not like me but working through your books and levels its got the warnings/reminders whatever you wanna call it to not push them to far and to follow there cues and not just what the book says

@@susanroberts9117 for reading we take turns reading so we can discuss ask questions and that I know they are comprehending whats being read even for the personal reading(which would normally be independent). In writing the younger grades suggest to have the child dictate to you what to write. As they progress in development and writing skills(even in older grades) I will follow younger grades suggestion as I encourage them to gradually increase writing themselves as I see them getting stronger while still assisting. Meaning I will still do some of the writing if I see them struggling but encourage them to do all that they can. It is difficult for them to put words to paper. Also if writing is not an option there of course is recording or talk to text. Spelling I am not super strict on memorizing the rules we just do what we can there. Again in younger grades there are alot of suggestions on getting out of your seat for movement spelling. We use these fun suggestions even in older grades. Bouncing, finger spelling on the carpet, sidewalk chalk, writing words with expo markers on the window and more. I have even found that if I flex my voice making a rhythm and breaking the word up while spelling the word out loud has helped. So for example if the word is "impossible" I will say I m. Poss. ible....if that makes sense You can tweek it however you like and take 2 days to do language lesson of needed. I hope I haven't caused confusion and have been of some help. We love it and going on 4 years of using TGATB!!

This looks amazing! My son placed in level 4 but the old edition was sold out so I bought him level 3 to “catch up” since we were coming from public school and wanted to make sure he knew his basics. He loves level 3 and is quickly moving through it so I am excited for him to start level 4!!

I have 6 special needs children that I will be homeschooling for the 1st time this year... lol yikes... God blessed me with them through adoption and I have never been more happy... so far we are loving the homeschool lifestyle of freedom and nature that it provides... anyway, I downloaded the free program from TGTB, (it is beautiful btw), but not sure where the best (not expensive) place to go to get it printed - I love the color and the spiral. With a completely new daily lesson format and an extensive revision of how and when concepts are introduced, the new edition is very different and does not match the old version lesson by lesson. The scope of the course has changed very little; but due to the large changes made, the sequence has changed. The new edition of Level 4 will be available as a free PDF download when the physical course set is released, so you can view the full course, including the table of contents, to find the best spot to start this course with your child. My two older kids were previously in private school, but we made the change to homeschool this year. They are in grades 5 & 6, but with being out of class for the last 4 months, I’m starting to discover just what they missed out on by not having a teacher to complete the original curriculum. My 6th grader is doing level 6 lessons, but many of the 5th grade dictations. I feel like they could both benefit from your suggestion of using this course to encourage a love of writing and to get a better grasp on spelling. Are you suggesting doing the whole course on its own, or just using the spelling and writing workshop book in addition to the level they’re at?

Hi Brittany! As we create new editions of language arts, we are aligning the instruction methods and layouts more toward grade level. We are focusing the lower levels more on reading, writing, and spelling. Many concepts are still considered advanced but they are introduced in lessons that are easier to follow for both the child (in the self-guided levels) and the parent (in levels 3 and under). We now save some of the more complex grammar concepts for higher levels, but grammar is still covered thoroughly. Our courses have increased, rather than decreased, in how thorough and rigorous they are for children as there is more learning woven into each and every lesson. We suggest that you take a look at the sample pages - or download the entire course set for free - on our website before making a decision on how to move forward. We hope this helps!

Yes, my understanding it level 4 is for 4th-5th grade. They have a page on their website that goes over the levels and grade level.

We are so glad you found us! We suggest that you start on this page of our website to watch the short video and download the checklist, then have your children take the assessments for Math and Language Arts (look for the tabs after the checklist) to determine the best fit for your child. The homeschool experience usually allows children to progress at a faster rate. The Good and the Beautiful curriculum is carefully designed to pack a lot of learning into a short period of time while keeping difficult subjects understandable. Thus, our curriculum tends to progress at a faster rate than public school curriculum. Children going from public school to The Good and the Beautiful tend to start at a lower level than they would expect, but they also tend to progress very quickly. We LOVE the curriculum, but DISLIKE the binding!!!!!!!

What is the issue with the binding? I’ve seen a lot of comments on this. Im waiting on my level 3 to arrive, and I would like to know what I need to look out for. Thanks

@@melissab7996 the pages fall out! It’s SO frustrating! There’s a place left open, in the binding so the binding doesn’t fully close! I wish they wld use a spiral binding instead of the metal binding. Once you start using the level you ordered, you will see what I’m talking about.
