I love this idea! We are new to homeschooling but are very excited for this new adventure! I do have a question, how do you homeschool year round? We move states every couple of years and almost all of them require you submit some form of work you’ve done ( i.e. attendance, tests, etc.) when do you submit this to the state?

Love this idea! I may try to at least incorporate nature weekly at least, or even daily, as we encounter it or use the Nature notebook at times from the G&B. May also use some interest-led science and history instruction when he seems wanting to learn more. But for more detailed and longer units, I like the summer idea! Thanks!

We take our big break from Thanksgiving week until new years eve, focusing on crafts, baking, cooking, service, fun nature studies, outdoor time, fun read alouds, movies, cousins, grandparents, Thanksgiving and Christmas picture books, decorating, and recreation.Schooling during the summer when everyone is crowding the recreational spots.

As a public school teacher, homeschooling has been a big change for MY brain! The kids are flexible, but being given "permission" to not do everything everyday is a big difference that will help our homeschool run more smoothly with less stress!

This video was so helpful. Probably sounds weird but I honestly almost teared up a little in the end just because it was so affirming that I can do whatever I want and to stop comparing myself to other homeschool moms. I’ve been really hard on myself about doing school 5 days a week but there’s often a fun adventure or excursion we get invited to and I don’t want to pass up but then will feel guilty about skipping school in the morning and panting catch up in the evening. Knowing that it’s ok to do school 4 days a week is so comforting to me and I’m definitely a checklist mom with a plan but not a strict schedule. We following a traditional schedule not year round and although I try to start around 9 I don’t feel bad if we don’t sit down until 9:30🤷🏼‍♀️I’m trying to be flexible and allow my kids the freedom to choose what they learn first etc and also voicing when they need a break from something. We're a military family and have moved 9 times in the last 10 years. We homeschool year round but because of our moves we don't have a set time we take off. It just depends on where God has us at that time. TGTB has been such a blessing because I don't have to plan or prep lessons. We just start where we left off. So simple and stress free! We’re a military family also and just started homeschooling for the first time! (Wish we would have started ages ago lol would have saved many headaches transferring schools 😅) I have a question, how do you do it year round? I was told by the school liaison that most states require you to submit some form of record that you homeschooled ( like attendance, tests, etc) the current state we are in just needs attendance but its the typical public schedule they require, we want to homeschool year round but not sure how that works?

Our state requires 180 days of attendance but the dates are from July 1st - June 30th. So as long as we have 180 days within those days we're good. I hope that helps!

Great information! Having homeschooled for eight years now I can say we have changed up our "schedule" each year to fit our current needs. I do not stick to a strict schedule reliant on specific times. We follow more of a set of routines. Currently, we school mostly 4 days a week, Monday through Thursday. We do our morning chores, get ready for the day, and have breakfast before we begin our school work. We work through math, handwriting, and language before lunch. After lunch we spend time on history three days a week, science 1day a week and Bible study daily.

This is my first time homeschooling and I'm really impressed with the material. The quality and substance is great. Equally important, it is easy for me as a parent to follow and teach. This is our 6th year homeschooling and we're always changing things up in our routine. Early on I tried strict schedules but then felt like I was failing because I couldn't get everything in or things didn't go as planned. Now that we do more of a routine rather than a schedule we have a lot more peace in our homeschool and my children and I enjoy learning together. We do a co-op with 4 other families on Mondays. The rest of the week we start between 9 and 10 once everyone is dressed, fed, and chores are done. We do math and LA daily. We rotate our science and history based on a semester; 1st semester is history and the 2nd is science. We loosely do year round school but I'm much more relaxed in summer. One thing I'd like to be more consistent with is a morning routine.

We homeschool 4 days a week (the day changes weekly depending on our personal schedules) School takes us 2-3 hours to complete Math, Language Arts and Handwriting. Above this, we follow their interests, we read a lot of science and historically relevant books (picture books and read alouds) which usually sparks conversation and lessons. (Kinder and Pre-k)

Great video! This is our 5th year homeschooling and our schedule changes so much each year to meet the demands of life and the ages and stages of each of my five kids. We start our day with family scripture study, breakfast, outside time, exercise, and getting ready for the day. We then have lunch and try to start school around 12 and end around 4. This allows us to have a appointments or go to library story time in the morning as well. We do sit down work Monday thru Thursday alternating science and history each day. Friday we use to get weekly chores done, volunteer work at the humane society, and learn our family history.

We just had our fifth baby, so homeschooling this fall has been a little more relaxed; but we are getting back into a regular routine. We do a traditional school year schedule so we can play more in the summer, but we do a lot of reading in the summer as well. Right now we do LA, Handwriting, and Math four days a week and then Science and History on the fifth day. My husband does science with the kids and he makes it so much fun for them! We also do baking or crafts on the fifth day if we have time. Thank you for posting this video! Sometimes I stress about having a fixed time for each thing and I get grumpy when it doesn't go according to that time. I think I'll be trying the checklist approach you mentioned! This is our first year homeschooling! (5th grader and 2nd grader) We homeschool year round, 4-5 days a week; usually starting at 10:30 am and finishing up between 2-3pm. We start with family read a loud. Then one child does Independent Reading while I teach Language arts and math to the other one. Then they switch. Last we come together to do either history or science together. We spend at least one day a week exploring a museum, nature center, or other outing. So far this year has been going well! 😊 We are loving the good and the beautiful curriculum (I have ordered all years of language arts, history and most science: it’s that good!)

Love!! On our 5th year of homeschooling my 9 year old son, 7 and 5 year old daughters. We go with the flow. I have a list of things I want to get done that includes chores, school, board games and meals. Schedule is different everyday. We do school 4-5 days a week which could include Saturday and do school even at night. We aren’t following traditional school year and take off when needed. We schedule mostly around my husband’s work schedule. I found the most frustrating part is trying to help all 3 kids at the same time. It works best for me that I have one on one time with each twice a day for their main subjects and the other kids play or work independently and skipping what they need help with. We come together for gospel study, games, meals, history and science. Also gives time for me to clean up and take breaks and refresh.

I started watching this video with my guard up, but it quickly lowered as you went on and I ended up loving this! I started with a more strict approach to my homeschooling, but have learned to have more flexibility this year. We had 4 kids in 5 1/2 years. My oldest is 8 and my second will be 7 next week. The other 2 are 2 & 4. I usually begin school the beginning of July to “get ahead” and give us more flexibility throughout the year. I do school with my oldest 3-4 days/week and the 2nd son is 2-3 days/week. We finish by the second week in May. We also are apart of Classical Conversations for the benefit of community and weekly presentations, not to mention they get to do fine arts and a science experiment every week. We don’t do a daily review though. I feel like doing TGTB language arts, writing, math, and awana verses is enough for us right now since I’m still 1-on-1 with each of them. I won’t lie...I swore I would never homeschool my kids and God has opened my eyes and it had been hard, but completely awesome!! So grateful!! Thank you for this video!!

We do year round, six weeks of school, then a one week break (two weeks at Christmas). We take the month of July off for a mini "summer" vacation. It works for us! We do LA, Math and Reading every school day, and then Science and History/Social Studies two days a week (on different days). Oh we also do a four day week, start around 10ish and are done well before 2 pm.

My great grandson was so excited that Grammy was his new teacher that he wanted to start in the summer so we did a little to get him started and to keep his excitement going.We have breakfast, brush teeth and start our day by 8:30 , I am very pleased with this curriculum, and pleased with my grandsons progress. This is our first year homeschooling. I made a list of things we needed (and wanted) to accomplish in the year, and that helped us figure out how much we needed to do a week. So I just record what we do each day to keep track of whether we're meeting our goals for how often we do a subject.

This is our first year homeschooling. I decided to do year round and started beginning of July. We should be done mid May! Honestly I started in July just in case it didn't work I could re-enroll them in public school. I really felt like I was suppose to homeschool but doubted myself. Since starting I have not looked back though. I love TGATB curriculum and have a feeling we won't be changing. I have a 2nd and 5th grader this year. We school 5 days a week. I love the flexibility and being able to school even while on the road. I love the fact that everyone can school differently and still provide a great education for their children. You have to figure out what works best for you and your children and run with it.

Homeschool year round 4x a week. One of those days is half co-op. I do Math and Language arts first (and the kids get independent work out of the way while I am working with individual kiddos). We start at 9. After lunch I do a loop schedule of Bible, Reading Basket and/or Science/History. One day a month is a fun day where as a family we do a free write along with a nature walk, playing a game, poetry Tea time or art activity.

Hi! I follow a traditional school schedule..... summer time is too tempting to be inside! I do more of a unit it study schedule. I tried to do history 2 times a week and science 2 times a week but it was too chaotic for me so we started doing a unit of history completely then a unit of science completely! Works amazing and we are actually getting them in during the day!

Great video! We school 4 days per week with co-op on the 5th day. M,W, and F are standard days with math, LA, reading, and music in the morning and handwriting, Science, or history in the afternoon. On Tuesdays we have a fun school day where we do nature walks, fieldtrips, visit grandparents, etc. We follow a mostly traditional schedule with a few modifications due to the weather in our area. We like to have more school off in the spring and fall because that's when it's nice to be outside.

This is our family's first year homeschooling. Our son is in Kindergarten. We do school 5 days a week and are following our local school district's calendar. We have played around with our start time and I've found that 10 am has been the best start time for my son. We eat breakfast and take care of some chores. I also allow him some free time in the morning. We do language arts, math and handwriting every day. We do science Mondays and Wednesdays and civics on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Fridays we do fine motor skills activities as well as phonics and sight word review. We also incorporate some specials through the week. Some weeks we are better than others at fitting them all in but we try. Mondays we do something music related, Tuesdays are gym day, Wednesday we do art and Thursday we go to the library. We read every day also, as a part of our school day and at bedtime. Some days are messier than others and some days we are both rock stars! Overall, the curriculum has been such a blessing and I absolutely love having the opportunity to teach my son. Seeing him learn and grow every day is such a blessing!! Right now we are homeschooling 4-5 days depending on the week. We start with Vara and Cayado Spanish language arts, then do 1 lesson on our TGTB Math which we love. Bible study lesson using the Not Consumed books that we will use for many years to come. Then if the mood is right and we don't have other plans we work in science, geography, and art. Kids are little, so not much history yet. I also have 2 shelves full of Montessori activities that both kiddos can use to take a break or while I'm working one-on-one. We try to follow the seasons for activities and homeschool year-round.

I've used TGTB for 3 years now in Language Arts, and 2 years of Social Studies. It's a great curriculum! I'm thinking of switching over to their math too, as it looks gentle and has a good spiral review while building new skills. I didn't realize there was a typing course- I think I need to add that for my 4th grader!

We take summers off - but work in fun ways to learn about our world like working in the garden or observing a butterfly's metamorphosis (we're currently eagerly awaiting our Monarch's emergence!). We try to spend lots of time outside and appreciating our Wisconsin summer. During breakfast, we'll do our calendar, morning songs, and talk about our day. The kids play after breakfast so I can get a few things done around the kitchen. At around 10am, we dive in & I let them choose which subject to work on first. Our schedule will change on weeks we do our co-op enrichment day and the flexibility also allows me to go to Bible Study and Moms group at my church on Tuesday mornings. It's so hard but so rewarding!

This video is well done - thanks for putting this together! I have started with the pre K and K years following a Bible subject priority, very gentle, interest based, nature friendly approach to our learning. My focus has been especially to teach the home practical skills and add the fun of educational language arts, math and other subjects as the highlights of our day. I just completed my first year of homeschooling and we have come a long way, haha. My 4 year old told me, “mom, when we started homeschooling, it was boring. But now I like it.” 😆 it has evolved so much and I love seeing that when I look back over the year. I like where we’re at in some aspects, but I still see need for change. We are about to have baby #3, so big changes are definitely coming!! I’m excited to see exactly how it turns out.

We used to homeschool around the year- taking extra days off when needed. We also did a soft start, and soft end. But now that we’re growing most of our own food- I understand why traditionally they took the summer off! All hands on deck are required to grow and tend so much outside.

I am a brand new homeschool mom that will start Fall 2023. My girls will be in 1st grade and 6th grade. I will also have a senior that wants to finish at public school. We will start the day with breakfast, getting dressed then a bible story and prayer. Then we will move on to core subjects. For the most part, I plan to go along with my son's public school schedule (same days off for spring break, Thanksgiving and Christmas). I do work from home and Thursdays are a really busy day for me, so we plan to do school the other 4 days per week. This will put our school year from August till the end of June. So I guess it's more of a year round schedule with only taking off in July. We will do math, LA/grammer/spelling 4 days per week, Science and History maybe 2 days per week. Again, this is our first year so we shall see how it works for our family :) I got the science units from TGAB so excited to try that.

Our schedule is a little more year-round. We start in June, take December and april off with a few weeks sprinkled throughout the year as needed. Our day typically starts between 10am-12pm (relaxed) and we plan for 4-5days a week.

I have a first grader and a preschooler, and we homeschool 5 days a week. We do handwriting, language arts, and math everyday (only handwriting and language arts for my youngest.) We do science 4 days a week and art on Friday, with the idea of starting history next school year. My husband is a public school teacher, so we follow his school schedule. We start the core subjects at 9am, stop for a snack break at 10, and get back into it with science at 10:30. That's worked very well for us so far, but I'm sure it'll look a lot different once my youngest starts kindergarten and onwards. In the earlier days, we did not have a specific start time, and I frequently ended up pushing it to the back burner, so starting at 9 every day has brought much peace to me and our household.

We homeschool year round but we take a month and a half off from Thanksgiving until New Years Day. We also take a week here and there as needed for vacations or just breaks. I plan block schedules of what I need each child to do that day then if we skip 1 sometime in the week we make it up on Saturday or Sunday.

We homeschool AUG - MAY taking JUNE & JULY ‘off.’ 🌞 We aren’t REALLY off though. Lol... M, W, F we have family read - aloud time (we call it ‘Book Club’ 📚and do an activity from any given subject. Art, 🏞 Geography, 🌍Nature Study, 🌱🦋 etc. Keeps me happy to have a little down time and time to plan the next school year, and still keeps them occupied and ‘plugged in’ to continued learning. 👍🏻

Great video! I've been homeschooling from the beginning, so I've seen a lot of those videos you mentioned, especially at the beginning of our homeschooling journey when I had no idea where to begin. We are all about routine over a time schedule. We homeschool 4 days a week, and we're currently readjusting to a year- round schedule starting in 2020. We found traditional school schedule didn't work for our family here in South Texas because it's WAY too hot for us to enjoy the outdoors in the summer.

I am in my 3rd year homeschooling my daughter in WA state. We home school 6 days a week as we take summers off and also several weeks throughout the year. In WA we are required to home school 180 day of the year. We do Math, Language arts, handwriting and music every single day. We get in a swimming lessons, science and Spanish once a week and I am trying to fit in history - have the materials but haven't managed to fit it in yet !!!! This video was super helpful. I'm thinking to maybe just do the main subjects 5 days a week and take that 6th day to fit in those things that we have a hard time to do other times.

We do Bible, ELA, Math, Writing daily. History is M/W/F and science T/TH. Traditional school year but would like to do some in the summer or the days are too long with not alot to do. We are trying to get up by 9:00, make beds, eat and get dressed for the day and start school by 10:00.

We do year round because we just tend to take vacations when we fill like it so it usually works out. But, in the summer we "do" less, like kids have to do reading everyday and one more subject. And chores, we don't play with friends till after lunch so they aren't just gone all day long!

We have been homeschooling for 15 years and it changes every year based on the needs and activities of each child. We try to do math and language arts in the summer. Older kids start early, younger at 9. We enjoy learning so we go until about 3:30 which includes scriptures, chores, etc.

We started homeschooling last year. My boys are currently 10, 7, and 2.5. We homeschool year round. However, we live in the Midwest, so in the summer we take advantage of the outside weather by going for a 6 mile bike ride every morning. Reading in the evening. History and/or Science together outside in the morning after the bike ride. We usually have some neighbor friends (from traditional public school) who like to come sit and listen and participate which encourages my boys. Language Arts varies as my oldest son is autistic. If it is a good day, he gets his lesson done while my other boys play quietly. If it is a not so good day, my oldest may be having quiet time and my 7 year old will do a language arts while my 2.5 year old plays in the sensory bin or naps. We do not have a set time to start. We focus on language arts 4 days a week, history and science 1-2 times a week, math 4-5 times a week, reading every day. If it is a hard start day during the week, we may take the day off and work on lessons on the weekend. During the winter we deffinetly have a lot more inside time, as the temperatures drop below well below zero, and our friends are not out to play. We aren't terribly strict, but deffinetly make it known that lessons and chores come first before vegging out. We choose to year round school as we have noticed that it is very easy for children to forget what they have learned when they have a larger break from lessons.

Aren’t y’all going to release curriculum for grades 6th-12th? I truly hope so! My daughter is technically in 7th. But I pulled her out of ps to homeschool due to bullying and she was just barely getting by each year. She has so many things she has not truly grasped I feel like we need to go back over to give her a good foundation to build on. I love your curriculum! I truly hope you release those soon!

Yes! We offer Language Arts courses for Preschool through High School! You'll find our Language Arts courses on our website here: www.goodandbeautiful.com/pre-k-8-curriculum/language-arts/ Our History courses are taught family-style for grades 1-12. You can find our History courses on our website here: www.goodandbeautiful.com/pre-k-8-curriculum/history/ All of the science units are taught family-style for grades K-6 and have extensions either in the lesson or an additional full page for grades 7-8. www.goodandbeautiful.com/pre-k-8-curriculum/science-health/ Simply Good and Beautiful Math 6-8 will be released in the coming years with Math 6 expected in 2022, likely before the new school year! Math curriculum is high priority for us. Because we are still working on our elementary Math courses, we do not have plans to release any High School math courses in the near future. We plan to explore the development of High School math after the release of Math 6-8, which will release over the next few years. In addition to our Language Arts and History courses, The Good and the Beautiful is working on more high school courses. They are very labor-intensive and expensive and require a lot of expertise. We are making sure to do them correctly and not rush them. We will not be releasing any more high school classes in 2022 or 2023, but after that, you can expect a lot of incredible high school courses coming your way! We hope you find something you love! 💛

Hi there! We are so glad you reached out! Our language arts courses levels 4 and up are all designed to be completed independently with minimal parental instruction. That is helpful when working with many children. Our history and science are also designed to be completed family-style, saving time as you teach all of your children together. For history, the Audio Dramatizations and Student Explorers included with the lessons are a great independent activity for children as you work on other tasks or are occupied with your younger children. We also have a new KZbin channel, The Good and the Beautiful Homeschool Science, which has interactive videos that can help you save time on the science experiments in our Water and Our World science unit. We are also coming out with a line of products for Littles that will keep the littlest ones, such as your preschoolers busy with productive activities. Our first Littles product, Doodles and Pre-writing for Littles is available now on our website. Finding ways to include all of your children at once or having them help each other can also be helpful to maximize your time. I hope those tips are helpful!
