the route in the sands seems compacted do you still need to deflate tires or just for dune crossing?

Yes, you still will be better off deflating as there is one stretch (on the way to the camp) that is a bit more technical. On the way back is going down i.e. easier. Here it is: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5C1kKJpeKiXoNk

Great video, thank you. Hi, I'm just planning on visiting thousand nights camp during this weekend. If we were to drive solo as a family, do you think we'll be able to find the camp or would you recommend getting a guide.

You can follow wikiloc directions (these are in reverse but you can still follow them). www.wikiloc.com/offroading-trails/from-thousand-nights-camp-to-bidyah-59625322 There is only one tricky dune cross about 11 km from the resort, which you can easily miss... we missed it the first time. Deflate the tires, make sure you have water (just in case), follow wikiloc directions, and do it during the day ...and you should be fine. There is mobile coverage in most of the places too... so in the end, it's relatively safe, but it's up to you and how you feel about your skills. Also, if you stop at the start of the trail, there are heaps of random guys stopping and offering you their guideship. So it's your call at the end of the day. gourmetcampers.blog/2019/11/26/experiencing-wahiba-sands/

The difficult bit (crossing the dune) you can see on the video from 11:30-13:00

@@TheGourmetCampers thank you very much for your very helpful guidance on directions. Finally, we decided to drive without a guide. We followed the tire tracks at a very moderate speed and made it. I only saw your message today and so was not prepared for the tricky dune that suddenly loomed up in front of us. I thought this was the point we turned back. Fortunately we mustered up the courage and pulled up and almost went down a small drop at the top but stopped just in time and corrected our position and somehow made it through that dune. Phew! It was a wonderful experience. The drive, the resort, the sand dunes, everything. We stayed at the deluxe sheikh tent, it was very comfortable, hygienic and pleasant. An unforgettable stay for sure. Your detailed video is what gave me a good idea of the terrain and what the drive would be like. But, I did miss the dune when I first watched it. What do you mean by you missed the dune? Is there a way round it? Also, where are you guys from?

@@lauraandlisa381 It was the second time I went there, but the first time alone. On the way to the camp, we missed the dune turn and drove further 15km South. Yes, very close to the camp, but separated by massive and tricky dunes. We asked a local Bedu, who we stopped, for directions. For a small fee, he helped us navigate through the massive dune rather than going back to the turn. So yes, there is another way(s) around... but it's much more difficult. We got bogged when crossing and we had to use our recovery kit (shovel and two recovery tracks). In the end, we made it. We are from Spain, Poland, and Australia :)... and lived in Oman for about 2 years. Amazing country to explore! How about you guys? And what's your next trip? I highly recommend Barr al Hikman and Sugar Dunes. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWq1fKChaaeoo5Y

@@TheGourmetCampers luckily for us we made it to the camp and back uneventful. Just followed the tire tracks and frequently asked for directions from others on the route. We're from Sri Lanka. Been in oman for the last 7 years but only now exploring. Thanks for the suggestions. Keep up the great video content. Cheers
