This must have been an orgasmic trip for you, now that you done it on the roads that you travelled think of the thousands of truck drivers like myself that did UK to Iraq, Afghanistan, Doha, Pakistan included back in the early 70's...............alone too, no mobile, no TomTom.

I was hoping this would have commentary. I just watched the road runner from Bradford filmed in the 1980s and I enjoyed it very much. I was looking for a comparison of experiences on the journey.
@dustydrifter13 жыл бұрын
I know, you’re right... unfortunately it was a last minute thought to upload on KZbin when i was left with almost 2TB worth of footage of this journey and couldn’t decide where to store it. Initially i hadn’t plan on making a vlog hence no commentary. But it may help to watch all the 9 days of clips and maybe by going through the comments section it will give you some closure on the comparison. Otherwise, pls just ask if you have any questions, I’ll be happy to answer them. I, however, do plan on making another such long journey, where I’ll add commentary, once this pandemic is over. You may see my plan on my insta page, just ignore the dates on the map: instagram.com/p/B56Mhq3JmQo/?igshid=1hwy7hv0uxl91 Thanks for watching the clips.

Only booked accommodation in advance for the 1st night stay in Munich and 2 nights stay in Quetta. Rest were found on the go. I was the only driver. Since you are interested then i can only highly recommend such an overland trip. My Advice: make sure to take your time exploring the route and countries you drive through, don’t rush to get to Pakistan. All the best.

Awesome video mate.... quick question how were you able to make contact with your family on your way to Pakistan and did your UK number work in other countries? One thing more did you use a gopro to record the footage?

Thank you for your appreciation. I used to connect to wifi as and when i could find the coverage to stay in contact with friends and family. Wifi is freely available at service/rest areas and also at the hotels throughout the route. UK number will work at a cost and depends if you have the option of roaming with your contract. No, i didn’t use GoPro, i used dash-cam to record this journey. You can find the make and model of this dash-cam by reading through rest of these comments, i have left the details in reply to another query. Hope this helps.

Yes, you can and for that matter any car is capable of doing this trip as long as its mechanically sound and kept up to date. If you have all your travel documents in place and car in order then you should not have any issues. Just remember to plan for any unforeseen situations that may arise. Hope this helps.

Slm Brother. If I may ask the following questions. 1 - How many miles a day were you driving. 2 - How many rest stops per day. 3 - Did you sleep in the car. 4 - did you pre book any hotels. 5 - what was your contingency in case you broke down. 6 - is their any danger from highway robbers, terrorists etc on the routes you travelled and how did you avoid that. 7 - can you leave the vehicle in Pakistan and fly back to the uk or do you have to go back the way you entered? Sorry for all the questions but I would like one day to travel by road to pak. Jazakallah ...
@dustydrifter17 жыл бұрын
Wa Alykum Asalaam. 1) Mileage used to vary every day, since i drove for fix time period approximately 8-10 hours a day. 2) Again rest stops used to vary, some days it would be as many as 15 stops and somedays it would be 5. 3) We spent only one night in our car, all other nights were spent in a hotel. 4) Apart from 1st night stay i didn't pre-book any of the hotels. 5) Call for recovery services. In worst case scenario, if car's not recoverable i.e total loss then fly to the destination. 6) No, didn't had any issues on our way, any where. Pretty safe, only avoided driving at night after crossing Europe. 7) It depends, if you're permanently importing car into Pakistan then yes you can legally leave the car and fly back but if you're temporarily importing car into Pakistan then legally you're allowed to leave the car for the period of 3 months only after which you are required to take it out of the country by which ever means i.e. by road, by shipping etc. Hope the above answers satisfies your queries.

just came across your fantastic vlog and really enjoyed watching all 9, i did london to mongolia about 8 yrs ago in a £150 (1988) nissan sunny and thoroughly enjoyed it and it proves if you are determined and a little bit mad you can really achieve anything just a couple of questions, which option did you take on the CDP and how much did it cost you? i have the mighty land cruiser 80 (I hate it when people call it a jeep) hope to hear from you soon Thanks
@dustydrifter17 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching and appreciating a humble effort. Were you participating in the Mongolian rally when you drove to Mongolia? It’s on my list of adventures to do. For Carnet de Passages en Douane (CPD), I opted to pay a refundable deposit of €2200 and because it was 100% refundable on return I didn’t choose the insurance indemnity option. I too disapprove of people branding all and any SUV/4x4 as Jeep, I normally correct them to say it’s a Land Cruiser in my case. 80 series are great with exceptional off road capabilities, like them as well 🙂

Thanks for a quick reply, i was 1 week away from doing the trip to india in jan 1979 doing the same route that you've done but family (mum) insisted i shouldn't go so i relented(didn't want to break her heart) so my friends went ahead and really enjoyed them selves and although i've travelled a lot (egypt,jordan,syria lebanon in 2005 and uganda rwanda burundi tanzania, kenya in 2013 and always driving) this is the trip that i keep thinking about, hopefully next year i'm finally going to try to this yes i took part in mongol rally, was really great but want to go the same route with my wife and take it easy this time Thanks

Thank you for watching and appreciating the vlog. I still own the Land Cruiser, its very well engineered, highly reliable, very comfortable and its ageing really well with time so looks great too. I love it. Currently I’m not aware of anyone travelling next year nor i know of anyone with firm plans for it, maybe near the time i will... hope this helps.

@@dustydrifter1 absolutely bro I like the fact that your still enjoying the older solid engineering vehicles of our time and appreciate your honesty too, what I meant to ask was that as your travelled from abroad your aloud to keep the vehicle there and not being it back ! Meaning did u pay tax to keep it there? Enlighten me plz with your knowledge, ty.
@dustydrifter16 жыл бұрын
You are only allowed to take a 3 years old car and keep it in Pakistan after you have paid and cleared its customs. For anything older than 3 years you can only temporarily take it to pakistan, for maximum of 3 months. For temporary import you need to apply for a document called Carnet de Passage. Hope this helps.

Salaam Mr. Aamir, I am also planning to drive to Islamabad from London. Although had so many question but I am reading through the comments and getting answers. I have 2002 Land Cruiser Amazon almost the same as yours but my one is in Petrol, was wondering if it is good decision to take a trip on this mighty fuel hungry vehicle? Heard diesel ones are more fuel economic? Is your one diesel or Petrol?
@dustydrifter17 жыл бұрын
Wa Alykum Asalam Thank you for watching the clips. My Land Cruiser is 4.7 petrol/LPG, total cost of fuel for this trip was £1000. I drove on LPG until Bazargan - Iran border and then drove on petrol in Iran and Pakistan. If you can afford fuel cost of £1500 approximately then I would recommend to go ahead since I prefer petrol engine over diesel. Hope this helps.

sir if i want to travel to london from Lahore can i apply for british visa only?? or for all the countries through which i am going to travel reply me plz
@dustydrifter17 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment, if you're a Pakistani citizen, which I assume you are, then yes you would require visa for all the countries that you will be travelling through. For Europe you will need Schengen visa which will cover all the countries in European Union, hope this helps.

dude should i have to get visa of every country which we go through?
@dustydrifter16 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment, It depends upon what nationality you hold and what route you’ll opt to travel on. For this route if you’re a British citizen then you’ll require visa for Turkey, Iran and Pakistan. For any other nationality refer to the appropriate consulate’s/embassy’s website for visa requirements. Hope this helps.

average price range that i will be paying in fuel to do this trip there and back by myself?
@dustydrifter12 ай бұрын
It varies, depending upon mpg, fuel prices, engine size, driving style etc. expect anything between £1000 & £2000. Hope this helps.

@dustydrifter1 thankyouu very much, i drive a 1.6 ford fiesta could this still be doable?
@dustydrifter12 ай бұрын
Yes, totally. Cost of fuel maybe very low on your car as well. Maybe less than £800 for such a trip, oneway.
@TheHarryshah5 жыл бұрын
Hello brother, since you took the car in with intention to leave not long after did you have to pay any import fees?
@dustydrifter15 жыл бұрын
No, i didn’t pay any import fees because it was a temporary import, in my case just shy of two months. Although i had to acquire Carnet de Passage, without this you cannot import the car into Iran & Pakistan on a temporary basis. Hope this helps.

@dustydrifter14 жыл бұрын
Yes, its as safe as anywhere else in the world, as long as you obey the laws, follow the rules of the road and be friendly then you’ll be fine. People are generally very pleasant and forthcoming towards tourists. I had lot of local help when needed where ever i went so cannot complain. Hope this helps 🙂

Thanks a lot for your reply bro. I'm sorry I don't check my KZbin notification quite often but I guess now I should. One thing that I'm concerned about- Car Insurance. What kind of Insurance did you get ? How ? From where ? Or you purchased it at every border that you crossed ?
@dustydrifter17 жыл бұрын
Normally 95% UK insurances cover you in Europe, check with your insurance provider. For Turkey and Iran you will need to buy it at the border. The cost of it varies from car to car and for Iran the duration of stay changes the price. For me the cost was between £55 - £45 for each country approximately.
@mohammadsaleem28117 жыл бұрын
Oh thats nice if UK Insurances cover you in Europe. So when you get to Turkey or Iran border, you can get it at Customs Checkpoint or you actually need to call one of the insurance providers in those countries. I hope they (UK) insures cars from outside of the UK because I'll be starting my journey from Chicago, US. Ship the car from NY to UK and then drive off from there again.
@dustydrifter17 жыл бұрын
You can buy the insurance at the customs checkpoint, no need to call any local insurers. I know of a gentleman who just completed his return trip from Houston (USA) to Lahore (Pakistan) in his Toyota Sequoia, if you contact me on WhatsApp (00447793251453) I can introduce you to him since his experience will be more relevant to you. He’ll be happy to assist you with your queries and can explain you better how he bought the insurance for his USA based vehicle.

For carnet contact following automobile associations for accurate cost for your car: - www.tcs.ch (Switzerland) - www.acs.ch (Switzerland) - www.adac.de (Germany) - www.carseurope.net (UK) Hope this helps

Is "(reload)" only change of name or video is reloaded again? If it is reloaded then what is the difference in this and previous one? I want to know before watching it again :)
@dustydrifter17 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment, ‘reload’ version of the video has same content, the only difference is the background music. Since the original clip had copyright music it wasn’t playable for every one hence had to delete and add non copyright music and upload for all to see. Hope this helps.
