I absolutely ADORE THIS! I, too collect Japanese ephemera. I recently acquired an antique Japanese Bible. Vintage onion skin paper... thousands of pages of Japanese text. Antique Japanese coins tied to a silk ribbon as a book mark. It almost breaks my heart to use pages from it in my journal.

Wow! I’m very envious!!

@@janechippart I’ve never used an old book and glued sheets together. Im excited to attempt it next. Can you please explain if you tear out several of the original sheets as you’re preparing the book? I imagine that if you leave them all in, it would become unmanageably bulky? Also, it looks like you’ve done your own binding despite using the original pages? I see your trademark transparent half pages inserted through out. Not everything seems to be attached to the original books paper. I imagine one could tear an original bound sheet in half and stitch a silk & vellum extension to it. That doesn’t appear to be what you did. I simply can’t tell. (Obviously, if I’d put forth as much time studying at university, as I do your lovely journals, I’d have my doctorate! 😂 Forgive me for continuously asking you a dozen questions. It’s rare to find an artist that is so very similar to your own style. It’s uncanny how much our eyes seem share the same lense. (Ironically, I may even have the same poetry book you used for this journal?! I ordered it off eBay. It’s soft pink w blue/green birds on the cover & stork like birds on the inside. Mine also came w a slip cover for storage. It’s very similar to yours.You have unknowingly become my mentor! Thank you for your time... again!

@@natalierozean5989 Hi Natalie, I can’t actually remember exactly how I made this one as it was a year ago and I no longer have it. I probably did remove a few pages first to reduce the bulk. I think the half pages were single pages that I folded in half and then stitched extensions on in other papers. I’m so glad that you’re so inspired by my work…thank you!

This is so lovely. I just had one question. At first glance the Japanese literature doesn’t appear to have any coherence between the texts. Was there a conscious effort to make sure the texts line up with the design or form a story?
@thegraphicsfairy5 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for your question. In true junk journal style, this was a gathering of a variety of pieces of ephemera and prints designed to give a Japanese feel, rather than a true story.
