I have loved this lady since the very first time I heard her back in the 60's

Good song which says a truism, after all, she is a person, not a pet or a thing, so she cannot be owned by anybody. There are so many of us men, who seem to forget that. We may have the company of our mate, but we never own her, even if she is our wife.

You don't own me I'm not just one of your many toys You don't own me Don't say I can't go with other boysAnd don't tell me what to do Don't tell me what to say And please, when I go out with you Don't put me on display 'causeYou don't own me Don't try to change me in any way You don't own me Don't tie me down 'cause I'd never stayI don't tell you what to say I don't tell you what to do So just let me be myself That's all I ask of youI'm young and I love to be young I'm free and I love to be free To live my life the way I want To say and do whatever I pleaseAnd don't tell me what to do Oh, don't tell me what to say And please, when I go out with you Don't put me on displayI don't tell you what to say Oh, don't tell you what to do So just let me be myself

Thanks for uploading these. Personally I think the front and center MONO packs a lot more punch. I don't know if this was released in a stereo version or it's a remaster, but the Mono is a more faithful sound for the era. (I think) I am developing a new appreciation for the Mono tracks.

You Don't Own Me was recorded in late 1963 (not January 63). Included on Lesley Gore Sings of Mixed-Up Hearts, released November 1963. The song was released as a single December 1963. It went to the number 2 spot on the chart February 1964. Kept out of the number one spot by the Beatles. The French version of You Don't Own Me (Je Ne Sais Plus) was released as a single February 1964.

in the mono version it's just her single voice but the echo is so thick it makes it seem like there might be 2 voices.

More than likely recorded on an Ampex 2 track stereo machine. Top of the line equipment back then.

Maybe the original poster of this video can help me: does Jones not use double-sided vocals in the mono version like he does in stereo? When did stereo come into play and kick mono out of use?

One could make a case for this being the feminist anthem.

You know, it really sounds like she doesn't like the guy she's singing to.
