I dumped PPG decades ago. For me, it was the constant development that antiquated most of the product on my shelf and it got too expensive. As a DIY , by the time I figured out how to make it work everything changed again.. Sweet looking shop !

Just a quick question does this shop do collision type work because I haven't seen any space or equipment that could handle any such work? Secondly why all the total resprays on virtually new cars ? Thanks Bob

Colad Snap Lid System works better with water base toners from my experience. I worked with Sikkens water base for many years and we had a lot of issues with 3M PPS and the grit you’re referring to. Switching to Colad made a big difference. Sata are good too.

We had ppg at tafe, and even the lecturers teaching how to use the system would struggle to colour match. Sometimes half a day would be gone just trying to get colours right. 😅 not user friendly. But least most jobs are resprays happy days 👌💯

Most paint manufacturers seem to be optimizing thinning ratios to comply with VOC content, they usually require way more reducer than stated, on solvent based of course, i have no experience with water based.

Having a boss that wants it done right and gives you the tools to achieve this is becoming more rare these days. I would love working in a place like that. Pity you cannot give the business a shout out, might give you more work.......if you want it. If not, then maybe a PPG reps job is more your style?

Very nice place you work at there Gunny, it's great to see that the management seems to look after their workforce and that you have good extraction for the prep work and even an area dedicated for prime ups with it's own curtain and extraction. You would think that PPG would be all over you if there is an issue with the paint and work with you to find a fix, after all it's their reputation on the line🤷‍♂👍John UK

Thats a state off the art shop gunny , i used ppg a couple off times when i had a try out week at a resto shop but he also did collision work it was not bad but also not great , the main thing i like about it is that its easy to blend with cromax pro what i normally use it can be a real battle to blend out some off their silvers it looks terrible in the booth but ok outside not perfect but acceptabel, each paint system has its + sides and down sides

Guys I’ve been a paint rep for now 4 different paint system companies (currently AkzoNobel & PerfectCoat) and I can tell you that the color match of PPG will give pretty much the same amount of problems as any other system because they all have basically the same formula data base. Unless you have a spectrometer scanner and a good eye and idea for tones and variations you really cannot trust just the paint system.

I spray sikkens autobase and never have any problems but the boss is talking like he is wanting to switch to sikkens Autowave 2.0 and it is making me nervous . I’ll be heart broken I have so many sprayout cards in my library it isn’t even funny . I don’t really ever have to do sprayout cards much anymore unless it is a newer color and the thought of having to restart my collection of sprayout cards is crazy to me

We use metal sprayout chips that are color shaded through g1 to g7. the g1 in ppg matches the g3 colorchips, so colormatching weak colors will come up darker that the color chip. I've screwed up a couple of reds and yellow because of this.
