The reason is because it originated in Minecraft. As Minecraft doesn't have a determined "year" system, they used 100 days as a round number. People coming from the Minecraft/Terraria sphere aren't going to look up "112 days" videos for other games, they'll look up "100 days" videos instead. I still agree that they should just play the full year and call it "1 year in Stardew Valley" instead, though.

For anyone wondering, the 100 days challenge from my knowledge came from a now Minecraft KZbinr Luke TheNotable (no I’m not spelling that wrong) which became very popular in the Minecraft space and thus got crossed over to stardew, hope this helps ❤
