I am a Civil War Re-enactor, and though a female, take the field and serve as a man. Public education is one of our main goals; I have served Union and Confederate Infantry, and now serve Union and Confederate Navy. Our hobby is based on love of history and the research we do for our persona is something we all love to share.

It’s cool to see Civil war re-enactments and impressions still going on. I thought ACW re-enactments were becoming all too rare. Great seeing this. Being a retired (WWII) reenactor myself I still think re-enactments are such an awesome medium and tool for education and generating interest in history!

I think such things are not good for people. To gather families together and 'pretend war' with everyone happy and having a good time does not represent war at all. Not something to celebrate or normalize. Especially a war these people lost, they fought their own country just to keep black people as slaves. That fact is not something that ever shows up at these events.. You want war education? There is one going on right now and thanks to DJI and GoPro and YT we get to see it unfold. It isn't a fun and happy time, no one is celebrating.

I reenacted for about 15 years, through the 1990's into the early 2000's. Our unit, The Georgia Division of Reenactors Association, or GDRA, was very active, and I was lucky enough to have participated in most of the 130th and 135th anniversary events. The 135th Gettysburg was HUGE! As I understand we had close to 20,000 reenactors and about 50,000 spectators. Thanks for posting this, it brings back a lot of good memories!

The reenactors devote much time and expense in their pursuit of preserving this vital period of history. I was privileged to be a member of the Billy Yank committee in Hackettstown, NJ which raised funds to replace the Billy Yank monument which was destroyed by NJDOT in the early 20th century. The replica monument now stands on a donated piece of ground by the 5 points intersection of US Route 46. This was a fantastic video of the 160th Gettysburg anniversary. Thank you for your time and devotion with all of your videos. Take care and God be with you.😎

You know I seriously considered going to this 160th anniversary in Gettysburg but I didn’t. I’m only 60-65 miles away to the east. But I also know how very crowded and parked up Gberg can be as well. So Thank You So Much! Instead I went to the range and fired my 1851 Navy 36 cal. Pistol, my 1860 Army 44 cal., my 50 cal Hawkens and my original N. Starr Army issue 69 cal. 1829. Which most likely was used in the Civil War. I restored this gun which had been flintlock and converted to cap and ball by the military in later years. Firing these weapons makes you appreciate the effort to use them and those who received its fury. Amazing how anyone survived all the lead in the air. You have a Super and Very Well Appreciated Channel! Many Blessings and Safe Journeys! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania

Unfortunately Little Round Top is closed for a preservation /renovation type of treatment, but that just goes to show how much TLC they put into such a wonderfully Historic place in U.S. History. A tip of my hat to all of those who put their hard work into making Gettysburg what it is today. At 45 years old I was so proud to come back to this and ashamed I haven't done so since High School. @@TheHistoryUnderground it definitely is. You should look up vintage baseball. I play in a league and we play 1800’s rules and wear the uniforms they did back then. And we don’t use baseball gloves.

Thanks JD awesome video... I've been to a lot of battlefields and seen a few re-enactments, but it didn't hit home until you mentioned that at the battle all together there was over 1000 cannons. Do the math each cannon take 4 to 6 horses to pull, each Caisson taking 2 to 4 horses, then all the officers riding horses, ambulances, supply wagons.... holy crap that is a lot of horses!!! Good Job!!! Well Done!!!!
