His most iconic moments for me was him getting a puck in the face and losing almost all his front teeth in the 2010 conference finals against the Sharks (he came right back to play) and then scoring the cup winning goal of game 6 against the Lightning in the 2015 finals.

gotta admit that combo of Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook was quite intimidating for opponents during their prime years, I was never a HUGE fan of either because both played on the edge here and there but I wouldn't say they were outright "dirty" players. Keith was not only a great skater and good passer, but his defense was very good too. He is going to the Hall of Fame whether some like it or not and he should. He was the best D-Man in the league for a time and has the hardware and awards to back it all up.

@Weather oh for sure, Keith logged a TON of minutes for all of those years and after 2015 he, Seabrook, Toews and others really saw their bodies remind them how much they had all played, losing Hossa didn't help either but that core had a helluva run for 6-7 years there

He will go down as one of the all-time great athletes and genetic freaks in the NHL. A very large part of what makes a great NHLer is cardiovascular strength and Keith has marathon winning, Tour de France levels of cardiovascular strength according to a trainer he had from his junior career that measured his blood oxygen levels under physical duress. People think about skill and individual determination in hockey, but the strength of your heart and efficiency of your lungs to oxygenate your cells adequately during quick bursts of intense activity is one factor that separates NHLers from players that don't make it, of which Keith is in a league of his own. His ability to play 30 minutes a night with a high degree of intensity every shift without ever really getting tired or having his focus and decision-making ability break down is really what made him unique. He took over that 2015 playoffs with a d-core that was somewhat weak compared to what they had in previous seasons, while playimg in every situation against the oppositions best players, and scored a lot of key goals. He hasn't been nearly as effective in recent years as he's aged into the late 30s, though in his prime he was one of the better defenseman in NHL history in my opinion.

@siimtokke34612 жыл бұрын
I understand why the cap recapture exists, but I don't get why it reverts to the team with whom the players signed that contract. Especially when teams can trade players and retain some of the salaries in those contracts. Edmonton accepted Keith's trade where Chicago didn't retain any of his salary whole knowing what his overall contract was. If there ever would be cap recapture it should fall on the team he last played for.
@jaceking59382 жыл бұрын
I think that would have been part of the negotiations, no?
@whoshotashleybabbitt49242 жыл бұрын
The cap recapture is to punish the team that had handed out that long contract. It shouldn’t fall on the team that had nothing to do with the initial signing. That being said, the Hawks are full rebuild, I expect the last of the cup core will be gone by the deadline, so it’s not like cap space is going to be an issue in the near future.
@WaddickLawnCare2 жыл бұрын
@M P I doubt they’ll be many takers for toews even at 5 million he’s just to past his prime especially with all the teams so close to cap and him having a no move clause means unlikely he goes to a bad team with more space!

@@WaddickLawnCare I would take him as a third or even fourth line rental. Actual money owed is only 2.5 mill, the hawks could keep most of the cap hit. Keith did so as recently as today, telling Edmonton media, "I didn’t know that that was happening and that those things happened to that person." The omission of addressing Keith's ironman qualities does not bode well for the credibility of this analysis. Reality is that tributing a defenseman on points and not minutes during this period of time in the NHL is ludicrous. I can understand the spin on highlighting the Canuckle-Heads distaste for the player, considering the source (although this is actually just a tiny footnote in this crazy good career), but minutes was always Duncan Keith's legacy and you needed to talk about as a main theme when summarizing this player. Love the channel, but needed a better analysis of one of my all-time favorite players. I'm also not sure you mentioned that he allowed the Blackhawks to trade him because he liked te idea of finishing his career in Canada, to be closer to his family. Better luck next review...
