My mother worked in a movie theater in LA back in the late 40's. They would have these big premiers and all the people would come out. She said the two nicest people/stars she ever met were James Stewart and Cary Grant. She said other stars would come in acting pretentious and couldn't be bothered to acknowledge the girls that brought them to their seats...but not those two. She said Doris Day was very nice as well.

Cary Grant was, and still is, one of my very favorite actors. (It didn’t hurt that he was a handsome man.) I have watched this program several times, never get tired of it, he was one of the major players in the movie industry and I never saw him in a bad movie. Whenever a movie of his comes on, I watch it. I don’t remember the names of all of them, but I think over the years I have probably seen most of them.

The Bible references often the hope that Jesus shared with everyone that he spoke with. His, Messianic Kingdom, about to take place as stated in the Bible book of Revelation, highlights a time very soon where God will end all corruption and return the entire planet to a paradise earth. In Revelation 5: 3-5, it mentions, no more sorrow, sickness or death. The former things, that mankind has endured for thousands of years now will be done away with completely. I hope that I will be there. Imagine meeting our favorite actors, people of history and our family tree, all the way back to the beginning. Marvelous things are ahead for men of goodwill. We just have to get through the craziest time ever in history. Sickness, old age and suffering must end. We should all want better for each other. No hunger, no wars or poverty. ....... Get close to God while there is still time! The best to you all!!!

My favorite movie star of all time is Gregory Peck. Not far behind is Cary Grant. Two legends from both sides of the Atlantic that made decency and class cool and acceptable. Neither took himself too seriously. As a pleasant consequence everyone took them very seriously. What a far cry they were from the Brad Pitts and Tom Cruises of today's cinema. Reeking of ego and self love. Cary Grant was critical of anything that would offend an audience. Unlike "Tabloid Tom" and "Brad the Cad," to name just a few. Stars like Peck and Grant embodied everything a film star should represent. Today's narcissists should take a page from their play book.

They really glossed over it in this biography, but the story with his mom is so sad! She had such intense PTSD over having an accidental hand in her baby son's death, that her husband (who was rarely home) had her institutionalized. Archie came home one day and his father told him that his mother ran off and left the family. Archie was devastated, and had real abandonment issues his whole life. It wasn't until his father died that he was informed he was the next-of-kin to his mother who was still in the institution. They talked about how happy he was to find her, which is true.... but she had endured 23 years of "treatments" at this institution, and was never really coherent the remainder of her life. It's such a tragedy that those kinds of unspeakable things happened- and this wasn't that long ago! I think her life was crazy depressing.

thank you for that information. poor woman and poor little Archie. i’m glad he found her though. they didn’t know much about PSTD or anything for that matter, back then. also, i don’t know when it stopped, husbands could institutionailize their wives for anything - like if they found them too argumentative! thanks for reminding me. Keep safe :) 🌷✨🌱🌼

I found a list of 22 movies released for 1964, of which "Father Goose" ranked #6. While not in the top 5, it came close. Nothing to be ashamed of. While critics at the time might have not liked it, the viewing public still did. It's also endured as one of the fan favorites. I know it's right up there for me alongside "Charades", "That Touch of Mink", and "Operation Petticoat".

Very nice run thru of his life. Of course they didn't mention what I have always heard and read, that his film "That Touch Of Mink" was his highest grossing film ever. Doris Day was his insisted upon co-star. It was huge! Also they skipped over his 8 year involvement with Randolph Scott. That was a tough time for both of them when their respective studio's said it's either over or your careers are over. They were highly liked and loved in that business and that they were together. Cary died in Davenport IA. I happened to be there when I heard the news attending a poultry show. I thought what the hell was he doing there?! He was doing his Conversation With Cary show it turned out and he had a heart attack. What a stunningly handsome and unique person he was and is. Doris Day spoke very highly of him as well and that in itself is something.

Well there's to sides to that as you know Cary was born in a totally different era to what acting is like today and even in the 80s why he has that charm and charisma that most actors of today don't have that's all long gone today but you could argue if he was born in the right time at the age he was to be in a modern day bond he might not have that charm but could have that type of dark side to bond. Acting has changed now when he was around but still i can see what your saying on the dark side as he was never really portray in that way unless you class as to catch a thief or north by northwest a darker side to him

I think my point about Bond is simply Cary grant with a licence to kill? Cary Grant was undoubtedly one of the best talented movie stars of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. He had perfect timing in his delivery and one of the most handsome men walking the earth. The cruelty was rife in families in the Edwardian period. My father who was born 1909 and had a spaniel dog called Billy. My father came home from school and the dog was gone. He later found out that his father had the dog put down as a punishment for something my father had done. Cruel generation.

My mother loved "An Affair to Remember." Out of curiosity I once watched it with her when it was on AMC or TCM, and I fell in love with it too. Cary Grant was one of the greatest shining stars in the Hollywood firmament.

My mother said the same thing of the man when they shared an elevator way back in 1954 or '55 in the Carton Hotel in Cannes. He was there with Grace Kelly making Hitchcock's "To Catch a Thief".

@Marisela Cantu Mother's great heartthrob was Frank Sinatra whose London concert at the Palladium I was fortunate to acquire 2 tickets to attend. I took my mother as a surprise outing in 1974 or 1975. Count Basie and his orchestra accompanied Sinatra. Cary Grant and Frank Sinatra starred together in a movie set in period war-torn Spain. Sophia Loren was the gal in the middle! Sinatra worked his live audience at the Palladium like no other. But it was always Cary Grant who filled the screen. Not even Sinatra could compete with Cary Grant on screen unless he was singing.

Cary Grant was one of the most entertaining and charismatic actors of his time. He turned down the chance to play James Bond. He’d have been great in that role, but he didn’t want to play the same character over and over again. He was a trailblazer in his own way. North by Northwest is my favourite Cary Grant film.

Both Cary Grant and Yul Brynner supported Ingrid Bergman when Hollywood turned against her. Two classy and powerful gentlemen of the golden age.
