Wow...I'm so happy to have watched this right now. I spent so many hours over the last couple years pulling my hair out trying to decide which UST to go with for our theater room before ultimately deciding on the Aurora Pro when they had their Kickstarter going. I have to say, I have been beyond pleased with it, and after the latest software update, it's better than ever, plus to also see that it has gotten this good of a review from you just makes me that much more satisfied with my purchase. ^^

What was the significant update to the Aurora Pro. Did the update boost the contrast more?
@hakujin71372 ай бұрын
@@brucesmith1754 from what I've been able to see is that the contrast has been improved and the Dolby Vision has greatly improved. They have also really improved the menu options for picture settings and other options as well. They also said that the audio was improved, but I use a sound bar/system, so I can't speak to that one. ^^ I'm just really pleased with the performance and quality of the Aurora Pro for the price. We paid the same for the Aurora Pro that we did for our 75U8K, and that is including the 100" fresnal screen, since we got it during the Kickstarter, so we love it.

I just got my NexiGo Aurora Lite yesterday. Input lag, black floor, Dolby Vision and 3D made the choice easy for me. I could have waited until my fun money had a few hundred more for the Pro, but I'm not having any buyers remorse. I'm using a crappy regular grey screen with zero issues. When my lenticular screen arrives tomorrow I'm sure I will be blown away. (100 inch rhone screen for $300 during prime day. I can now save for a fresnel screen).
@GNHobbies2 ай бұрын
Update for anyone interested. The Rhone screen made a huge difference as expected and at the price my only other option would be the LTV-2500 (lag, dolby vision and 3d requirements). The NexiGo isn't as crisp which really only is noticeable when gaming, but the black floor is great across all applications. The big issue that I wish I would have known about prior is that Dolby Vision on the Nexigo is capped at 4k/60 and the input lag from the xbox series x with Dolby Vision for gaming turned on is horrible. I don't have any testing equipment, but it is bad enough that I wouldn't play any type of game on it except maybe a turn-based game. 4K120 gaming is great, but no Dolby Vision so you are limited to HDR10.

I would also get sometimes some serious frame jumps on some content and even that wasn't consistent. Offloading it to the Apple TV before it gets to my projector just makes it better and headache-free. The DLP rainbow effect, however, is the bane of my enjoyment sometimes. However, I would suggest investing a bit more time coming up with better scoring system, as you saw, there could be massive difference between benq (9 points in dark viewing) and hisense px3 (10 points) and they would still be separated by a signle point. Same goes for other categories. This in the end makes it so that the projector with highest score isn't the clear winner :)

@TheHookUp Thanks for this super in depth review. It has really helped me understand the value of UST projectors in general. When researching standard throw projectors vs UST, many on Reddit say to go with standard always if the room set up allows for it. At the same time, I'm also reading that USTs are just as good as standard throw. What is your opinion? Also any particular UST projector screens that pair well with the PX3 Pro? Cheers!
@TheHookUpАй бұрын
USTs have surpassed standard throw projectors when it comes to native contrast. They also have the huge advantage of being able to use them with UST specific ALR screens which help not only in rooms with ambient light, but also in light controlled rooms since they significantly reduce room reflections. Their limitations are: 1) No acoustically transparent UST ALR screens yet. 2) Limited to 150" screen and smaller. 3) Less corner sharpness than a standard throw.

Great comparison as always (but there is still some info missing, mostly about software, i.e. audio passthrough capability - it's very important in HT use). Overall - time is passing and good projectors are still light years away from the quality of TVs, while the latter are getting closer and closer in screen diagonals. We still don't have native 4K in projectors for 3-4k$, lenses are still imperfect, brightness is too low for daily use (and even if it's acceptable as in this LS650, it's at the expense of unacceptable noise). Not to mention useless HDR in projectors. I would prefer a projector, but I have to choose a TV. I hope that eventually there will be a breakthrough (i.e. local dimming), because evolution is too slow in my opinion.

Have you noticed the DLP chip having dead pixels at a certain point in the chip life? I read alot about how long the laser will last but no one covers the life of the DLP chip and that needs to be a consideration. The reason I ask is I was at a apartments complex theater rooms and it had a VAVA as the projector and it looked like dead pixels everywhere and the projector was only 3 years old. IM sure the unit was sitting there on and no one was watching, but I have a 85 QDOLD Samsung and trying to deicide on a 100 inch LCD or a nice projector, but I keep coming back to the VAVA and the DLP issues.
