This week on The Horti-Culturalists Stephen takes us with him on a tour of two of the great formal gardens of Spain and the private courtyard gardens of Córdoba. We'll take a look at the classic Islamic garden of The Alhambra, and the Baroque landscape masterpiece of La Granja garden near Madrid. We'll also stop by a Flamenco performance and admire the pot culture of the courtyard gardens in the fabulous city of Córdoba which are open somewhat randomly so join a queue if you happen to see one!
Stephen leads garden tours with Australians Studying Abroad and if you'd like to know more about their schedule of trips next year you can at their website here: www.asatours.c... - and you don't have to be Australian or in Australia to join one of the tours!

I did study abroad in Costa Rice, and those Spanish courtyard gardens really brought me back. The plant selection in Costa Rican courtyards gardens is quite different (unsurprisingly, given the massive climate differences), but they were of a similar vibe: fun, casual, bright, refreshing, cool and airy, and full of personal character. It is no surprise that they are so popular in so many different places and culture.

I have been on an ASA tour before. It was to Japan in Autumn. I went by myself, met lots of great fellow gardening tourists and Japan in Autumn was fantastic. I would do it all again.

Hi guys, if you ever go to Seattle, you MUST visit Elandan Garden, the landscaping is amazing and so are the bonsai, seeing as it is a bonsai garden, there are some trees estimated to be 2000 y.o. The scenery is just beautiful and the owner Dan Robinson loves to talk to people about his trees and his garden, you might learn a lot of interesting things about trees from him.

Beautiful. Thank you both. I wonder if the ponds were designed with what they would reflect in mind?

I’m also chasing Crocosmis Lucifer which I can’t find anywhere. I had it in my former garden & would like it again. Are you selling it?
