WOW! Just found your channel!! Thanks for changing my entire mindset about how to hunt the big bucks on my farm. Changed my total mindset - from now on I’m going after the fat chick!! Can’t believe how “routinely” I have hunted, sitting in the wrong stand, a lot of times for an entire day waiting on the big guy to come to me! But I also paid close attention about how to approach his area with great caution not to spook him. I’m in my 70’s, hunt alone, and now as excited about this season as I ever have been!! I think these “canned” deer hunting shows on TV, have led to far more disappointing hunts than anything else.

If memory serves, there are some pics of a barn with buck heads hung on the side of it, , but I believe they were not his biggest ones. It's an older pic, this was a number of years ago. I may be mixing that pic up, but I think they were Dan's bucks that didn't make the "living room cut". Again, I could be mixing it up in my head. I also think I did see a video of his indoor collection at some point over the years.

They make the rockin' world go round! The mistake I made this year(twice actually) was standing in my treestand away from the trunk when the deer is on my right sneaking behind me. I should have hugged the tree with my back in hopes that he didn't outline me and waited until he was out in front with better back cover. Awesome vid Dan. Thanks for sharing your experiences!

My father was always the guy who seemed to hunt closer to the road or tell me I should be sitting behind an old barn when I was the one tromping miles out to hunt.Obviously he had more luck than and I finally learned but with the help of your videos and tactics it has completely changed the way I see things out there!!!...Good stuff buddy!!!

Couldn't have said it better. Learned it from you and shot an 8 pt here in michigan within 200 yards of a parking area and had 2 other hunters push deeper before I got in the tree. I could see all the vehicles and the buck was headed straight for the trucks. Don't always have to go deep just gotta be where the deer are.

I haven't figured it out completely yet but I've just started watching this guy and for some reason I really like this guy. Not all celebrity hunters are good hunters but most of em have that "it factor " that gets people to watch. I could harvest bucks like them too if I had access to hunt where they get to hunt and those hunts alot of times take 2 weeks to get and it's not how it's portrayed on tv. But this guy has both the it factor and he's a good hunter. Keep up the videos bud and I'll keep watching!!!!

Dan, I know when you hunt the Cattail swamps you sometimes (always?) use deer trails for access. Do you only use the trails on the downwind side of the spot, in essence access on the opposite side of where you expect Bubba to come from, so you don't care about your scent on the downwind side trails? Maybe a stupid question.
@thehuntingbeast3 жыл бұрын
I access hunting spots in cattail marshes using deer trails, because its the only way you can access... Other areas I avoid deer trails most of the time. Im always considering both my ground scent and airborn when accessing. Every situation is different, but it worth the effort to spook as few deer as possible.

I found a whopper of a buck 35 years ago that bedded in a picker patch 60 yards from a house and 20 yards from the home owners dogs house. He actually had him a watch dog. When I tracked him in there the dog busted me and the buck ran through the yard across a country road and swam a cross a river. I should have had a partner bump him while I waited in a canoe.

I don't like the mix of politics and hunting, but lots of good advice otherwise. I always have more success when I use balls over brains. You do have to be aggressive. This year I shot the biggest buck of my life 10 ft away on the ground next to me after bouncing out another deer at first light. I knew that buck was coming in to that exact hemlock Ridge, which meant I had to be there in that exact spot, and around 9am, he came to me like a lost puppy. You've got to find a way to get in close and be where your target buck is going to be. I hunt public gorilla style, no cameras, no tech accept my Bowtech. I'm still having success in the late season. Go git em!

Guys ask me how i always kill deer and i tell them to stay out of the woods don't go in the woods you don't have any business going in there if you do the only thing, you are going do is blow the deer out and you will see nothing. i tell them to hunt the edges and the transition area let the deer come to you. i hunt a small piece of property it has a field two hundred yards long by one hundred wide and i have a stand one hundred yards off the road next to the woods and one hundred yards in the woods are the deer beds. the only time i go into the woods is to get my deer or the off season scouting but when i scout i ack like i own the woods because i do i do not sneak around. deer dont like people sneaking around.
